It's fantastic amplifier every amp out there has 12 inch doesn't mean it has to have 12 inch. 10 inch has it's own place it's not mushy and bassy, its on point and cut through guitars are not meant to be bass heavy we have bass guitar for that. Just listen to the sound rather than numbers.

The reason people want 12 inch speakers with a plexi is becuase a 12 inch speaker is part of the plexi sound. 10 inch speakers have their place of course but the plexi Amps were ran through cabs with 12 inch speakers. That's the sound on classic live performances . The b type is also far from the most vintage sounding speaker out there . The 10 inch creamback would would have been a better choice for a 10 inch speaker. The combo should have had a greenback reiisue or a g12h30 hertiage either 55hz or 75hz becuase those were the 3 speakers used with old school late 60s and 70s Marshall's.

My fave guitar speakers are a 10” and a 15”. Tens work great in multi Spkrs cabs (4x10, 6x10), and 15’s sound great with some amps, especially the Traynor and Ampegs of yesteryear. Of course, every one is different….

What's really sweet about this is when you're playing the jazz licks (great playing, BTW) the amp still has that natural compression, even though it's not overdriven. You just don't get that with master volume amps.

"What I like about Marshalls is they really find their place in the mix"-- I've been saying that for years! Sometimes I try to dial in a tone on mine and eventually I give up and I'm like OK whatever, but then with the band it just finds its own space. Thanks for the video!
@checocr

I think the same... I've tried many amps (don't get me wrong, I have played Marshall's for over 30 years now and they are my favorites), yet tried som other brands... did not work... I play with other guitarists who use other brands and always seem to get lost in the mix... they always have to tweak there rig quite a bit whereas my amp is always there, solid... with 'personality'. Love Marshall to be honest... 2 basic guitars I gig with a Les Paul (obvious choice lol) and a PRS Custom 24. Both sound killer there...

I have 2 X Marshall 4x10 cabs, an A and a B driven by a JTM60 head. I've had people almost fall over when they hear the tone. Celestion 10" speakers are tighter than 12s, which can give way better tone at the lower volumes of amps like these. The cab for the SV20H head is a 1x12 and there is a 2x12 cab as well but, the 10" speaker is my choice.

Marshall has finally made the amps they should’ve been making all along. The Studio Vintage and the Classic are absolute monsters! I’m hoping these get in the hands of a lot of players. Good review job JB...and to the folks unhappy w/the 10” driver...they make this as a head only and then one can plug it into whatever so long as the impedance matches. They make this in a 20/5 watt JCM 800 configuration too, both combo and head. Both heads seem to be offered at an honest street price of $1,299.

At the beginning of the video John says the direct ouput is speaker simulated. Other people who has demoed this amp says it's not and that you need to use cab IR:s in your DAW for that. Also, I haven't figured out if you can record silent thru this output, as is possible with my Fender Bassbreaker (which by the way also have the option to engage or disengage speaker simulation).

To record quiet all you’d have to do is unplug the speaker...
@harveycan5820
@harveycan5820 3 жыл бұрын
@@thegimpsometimes5937 If you do that then there is nothing bearing the load from the amp, and it will fry. You can unplug speaker but need to run it into a load-bearing device, then thru that to recording device. Or can use line out from amp. I used to record in an apartment using a Vibro-King into a THD attenuator/load box into a Red Box cab Sim and into a cassette recording device. Very 90s! But it worked perfectly! The point is you can't run a tube amp unless it's going into something that will bear the load. I believe it's different if it's solid state or just has preamp tubes, but not totally sure. Also you have to match the ohms between amp and speaker or load device. Definitely avoid going from higher ohms in amp to a lower ohm speaker/load, such as going 8 into 4 or 16 into 8 or 4. Burner! I believe you can go up from 4 to 8 or 16, or 8 to 16, but you lose power efficiency. I am not sure if that is harmful to your amp, so I would not recommend it. You can go out to 2 cabinets but you really need to know what you are doing to have the math work right on the ohms. On a Marshall the speaker outs guide you how to hook that up. Hope that is helpful. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can sharpen that up.

Currently, I have the silver jubilee have been running a plexi pedal on my Clean channel. I am curious if I added this amp to my rig just for those plexi tones and specifically the free tones your dialing in right now is why I use the pedal as well as some of the Clapton tones are better on, the plexi versus the 87 just curious would a volume pedal help to control or act as a attenuator of sorts on this amp, if plugged in through the effect loop, I like to use them headroom to bedroom with the jubilee. It has the master built-in, and I don’t think they meant to, but you can actually get cranked Tube tones at way low bedroom volumes. Thanks for any feedback or maybe I’m just better off sticking with my pedals. 3:31
