I just saw the movie this evening with two of my sons. We were blown away! I kind of live in this world of aviation, the military and have flown with several astronauts in my current career. The realism, and especially the emotion of the personal lives of the Armstrongs was very refreshing to see as opposed to a standard CGI type visual show. Great balance and the acting of Ryan and Claire was outstanding. Claire Foy nailed this performance and along with her amazing role in 'The Queen', sets her alone as one of the most talented actors of our day.

She portrays all the challenges that came with being an astronaut's wife. She had to be tough as nails to go thru the ordeal. And that scene where she basically forces Neil to talk to their kids is so powerful.

I just cant say enough about this beautiful movie, everything about it was brilliant.the music is breath taking I hope to get it on vinyl record,Justin Hurwitz has composed very moving soundtrack.loved it! Cant say enough about Ryan Gosling he was brilliant as Armstrong,Clair Foy brilliant as his wife.know a bit more about the family. The space shots were breath taking. Best for me was when neil throws his daughters bracelet in the crater on the moon (tear in the eye for that scene) Brilliant movie, cinematography out of this world. 😍😍😍😍

I agree, this film is definitely a masterpiece. The technical details are spectacular, the story is very personal and compelling, and the film has great visuals. It also had a nice pace to it and a unique soundtrack. I loved it, it's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Great job by the director, cast and crew.

It’s always remarkable to me, when anyone makes a movie about the space program in this era, the amount of technical assistance offered by the people who were actually there. It seems universally accepted, if you're going to depict this era, everyone needs to step up their game and make sure everything is as accurate as it can be. About once every decade or so, someone takes on a project like this. “The Right Stuff”, “ Apollo 13”, and the countless documentaries produced on the subject. Thankfully, there’s a bunch of people around who were either involved in the subject matter directly, or closely around it to keep things in line with reality. Hat’s off to all of them and for the creatives who choose to take on these projects. It’s aways a massive and expensive undertaking, and a completely immersive experience to watch. Thanks to everyone involved.

The film “First Man” is a magnificent and wonderful film of a great event, the greatest engineering feat in history without question. It is a very appropriate tribute to the memory of Neil Armstrong, and to his colleagues on that historic flight. The film is also certainly very historically accurate, although like all films there is a bit of artistic license. May Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins Rest In Peace, a peaceful rest that they certainly earned. Neil Armstrong lives on, however, in his sons Rick and Mark.

Great movie. I enjoyed it a lot. Did discover one mistake. During launch of Apollo 11 you see Armstrong looking trough the window of the Apollo CM, actually that is impossible because during launch the cm is protected with a cover that also locks the windows. No possibility to look outside during launch

I thought of this as well. The Apollo Command Module was indeed enshrouded in the Boost Protective Cover, and when the Launch Escape System (the "little rocket tower") separated the BPC went along with the LES. (Earlier BPC designs didn't cover the windows, and when the LES separated the windows caught some of the tower's exhaust.) This said, it didn't take away from the film scene, and in the course of my research into the CM design I was surprised to learn that it had a "scanning telescope" built in, principally for navigation and guidance. Not many movies make me want to look into the hardware so closely...

Ok i watched this film lastnight, and forgive me but from what i watched, Neil left his wife hi n dry to deal with their daughter, he used that anger to fuel his gutz to get to the moon, He treated others like their issues did not compare to his loss, and finally im thinking some form of deep mental stress and ADD, this movie made me upset at him , not enough to hate but dang dude was rude especially when his wife needed him , self centered pos comes to mind

Dick Mittens One get a sense of the gravity of it all, and also that it takes a certain kind of people to become test pilotes. I mean, it's one thing to think "I like solving problems", and another to know "I'd better be solving this problem or I'm fried". That said; "Apollo 11" - now That's a masterpiece! The editing of the material was flawless! The soundtrack made me almost doubt that it already had happen, and everything turned out great.

We saw the movie. It could have been a great classic historical American movie, even, dare I say, a patriotic one too, without being corny. The mission shots were great. The movie grinded to a halt with the depressing non-supportive feminist type wife. Those parts slowed the movie because they were boring and done with shaky 16mm cameras, however they did use IMAX cameras for the moon shots and some of the other mission shots. The wife turns into a raging feminist by balling out the NASA engineers that they did not know what they are doing and the were boys playing with balsa wood making planes. The Trump hating Canadian director did his best to not make this near patriotic and also did his best to not make it so obvious that he did not want any American patriotism in it. One wide shot that did show the American flag on the moon, you had to squint your eyes to see it, and my brother, sitting next to me, said at the end of the movie, "They didn't even show the American flag on the moon. They should have hired an American military vet for the director. It was worth seeing because of the good scenes of the mission part, however see it only on IMAX theatre for the wide screen and sound.

I disagree. I didn’t see the movie as a “patriotic movie” at all, but a humanistic one. Yes they should’ve left the flag in I wouldn’t have an issue with that either way. But you’ve completely missed the point about the movie. It was a movie about risking taking people doing what they are passionate about but also going through a journey of understanding the consequences of taking those risks, and also questioning the point of it all, which is a very deep theme. They showed that these astronauts were being pushed for a very vain purpose: having an arms race with the Russians. Billions of taxpayers’ dollars were spent on this vanity while American people suffered through poverty and war, was it all worth it? Not only money but losing all your friends? That’s the question at hand that was left unanswered. And it showed that from Armstrong’s perspective, it didn’t matter after he witness all of his friends died, didn’t matter what your ideology is, those close to him gave their lives for it, so he must go through with it otherwise his friends would’ve gave their lives for nothing. It is not an American patriotic propaganda movie, it was a HUMANISTIC movie. And btw I agree with you somewhat regarding the wife thing. I actually wished the movie showed more Armstrong’s struggle with his career and acquaintances rather than so much about his domestic problems which is so overrated at this point: who.the.fuck cares? You are talking about stay at home boring wives with no accomplishments other than raising children, yawn, uninteresting. Too much screen time of Claire Foy and I’m not a fan of her, probably because of my personal distaste of her involvement in the Crown series where they insulted virtually all veterans by having the king saying that loving and protecting a woman is the most patriotic thing a man can do. The scene with her demanding Armstrong tell the boys is moving. Should’ve just stuck with that one scene and that’s it.
