この時の審査員は、2021年の6月にナイトバードが予選で出てきた時にいた4人だから、より一層感慨深いものがあったと思いますね。 ナイトバードは予選で、サイモンからゴールデンブザーを押され、準決勝に進める機会を得たものの、ガン闘病に専念するために出場を断念したので、このオリジナル曲「It's ok」が最初で最後になっていました。 彼女が生きた証が残っている、遠く離れた南アフリカでも彼女の曲によって救われた人、生きる希望を持った人がいる、ということ本当にナイトバードが出場をし、この曲を残してくれたこと、そして、この曲を選曲してくれた『ムザンジ青年合唱団』に感謝しかありません。 ナイトバードが予選に出たのは、2021年6月。 2017年に彼女は乳がんと診断されました。 2018年7月には、寛解。 2019年末にがんが転移したかたちで再発、生存2%、余命6か月と宣告されていました。 その余命宣告を受けた後に、2014年に結婚して闘病を支えてくれていたパートナーに「もう愛していない」と別れを切り出され、2020年に離婚し、深い悲しみと先が見えないガンとの闘いで絶望の淵に立たされていました。 2020年7月に奇跡的に寛解するものの、すぐに再発。 気持ちを変えるためにも、カリフォルニア州に引っ越し、名前を変えました。 「It's OK」は、この絶望した時の曲です。 見えないガンとの闘いに絶望し、くじけそうな自分に、「大丈夫だよ」ともう一人の自分がかけている言葉。 彼女が病気に侵されてから、ずっと不安や苦しみを抱えながら、一人で闘ってきたこと。 みんな、辛い思いを抱えている。 あなただけじゃないんだ。 自分だけだなんて思ったらだめだ、と病気で絶望する自分にかけた言葉、あの初めて見た綺麗な明るい笑顔から想像もつかないほど苦難な道を自分を「大丈夫」と奮い立たせながら、懸命に生きたんだと理解した時、涙が止まらなかったです。 歌詞からは、不安と前を向こうという強い意思が伝わります。 「癌が良くなれば幸せになれる」ではなく 「癌に侵されていようが 私は幸せだと決めてしまった 」と最後に話し、(自分の闘病のことでは)最後まで泣き顔を見せずに笑顔を見せていました。 AGTの収録後に彼女は、 生き残れる確率は2％と言われたが、2％はゼロじゃない。 2％には意味があります。 それがどんなに素晴らしいものをもたらすか。 知ってもらえたらと願っています。 と、彼女のこの曲は決勝までに2億回再生されました。 彼女は、強くて美しい。 生存確率2%を諦めずに生きたから、彼女の曲が世に出て、その彼女の姿に感銘を受けた人、影響を受けた人は世界中にたくさんいて、このパフォーマンスに繋がり、これからも彼女の意思は語り継がれて行くのだと思います。
