Full self driving (wink). Good God, and we elected for Elon, via Trump, to bring his special sauce to every American, to remake our government agencies the way that he prefers them to be. That Idiocracy Water might come next, Brawndo. "It what plants crave." I can imagine the attitude, blessing humanity with FSD, "It's just better, stupid. Die the way I think you should, from correctable technology limitations or faults of the highway system, not the way you previously would die...from your human driving skill limitations." Is effectively the argument, of fsd being safer On Average than Human driving. The arrogance and forced subordination is frightening because it removes agency.

My friend has a motor home that gets 7-10 mpg and when they can find a place to park it next a bunch of other motor homes and pay $200+ a night - I really don’t get it.

As far as charging when coming back on a trip, I try to stay at places that offer destination charging, which is often for free. While I’m not using the car, I plug in and charge up so that it’s ready to go. You can even do the charging trick of having it start charging so that it finishes all the way to 100% close to the time you plan to leave for home. Saves money and time. Just a tip.

Awesome video. You can disable the "Autopilot sets speed" thing in the Autopilot menu. That will then allow you to go back to changing the speed limit to whatever you want it to be at.
@WeHoGuestHouse
@WeHoGuestHouse Ай бұрын
FSD will not allow you to adjust and HOLD the speed above the speed limit on highways that are NOT interstate highways. This changed in the last update. Let's say the speed limit on a highway is 65 mph. I can't get it to hold 75 (which is the slowest I want to go on the highways). I can accelerate to 75 and it will hold it for a few seconds then start drifting down until I press the accelerator to speed up again. When my car transitions from CA Highway 111 to I-10, the car will hold 75 mph or anything else I set. FSD won't let me set a rate higher than 65 mph on CA 111, but it will allow me to set the speed higher than 65 or 70 whatever the speed limit is on I-10 at any given point on my drive from LA to Palm Springs and back. Before the update, FSD behaved the same on both highways.

Your Honda doesn't have FSD. Your Honda has wayyy more parts to replace. Your Honda needs an oil change every few thousand miles. Need to add those costs. People can say you need a new battery at 100k but many cars need a huge tune up at that mileage too with spark plugs/coils. Some need new engines/transmissions at around 100k too. People overrate about charging time. His first stop was 12-15 minutes? Just stop by a burger joint and get some food. Then eat and watch youtube videos while it charges. Even if it takes 30-45 minutes for a full charge, just take a nap. Most people don't really take these long road trips. Most people also make multiple stops to use the bathroom and get food as well. Most of the complaints have been addressed by people in the comments about switching FSD while driving by making another profile.

I stopped by my local Tesla service and they are aware of the issue and they think in an upcoming software update, the driver will be provided a toggle to adjust. Yes, what a PITA. I also went back to autopilot and glad that the lane change still works. Love the content and the channel. Looking forward to seeing what rims and tires will provide longer range. I wish Tesla let you purchase individual FSD features like summon or the auto lane change while using basic autopilot on the interstate for like $500 each or something. I don't like FSD but I absolutely love using the auto lane change when you activate your turn signal on the interstate while in autopilot. Otherwise, you have to deactivate autopilot, change lanes and reactivate it. Not a big deal but would gladly pay maybe up to a $1000 just for that one feature.

Great video, as always. Never fail to learn and chuckle watching these. Even though I’m 68, the toilet jokes still make me smile - the child in me lives on. 😂 Nuance and big picture. Yes, road trips in an EV are a bit more involved. And I’m not saying my situation is universal. BUT… I think it’s pretty common. I go on, at most, 5 or 6 road trips (+500 miles, r/t) per year. That means well over 90% of my driving is done around home, with the occasional shorter day or overnight trip. Meaning the vast majority of my charging is done at home. Absolutely painless. And cheap. When I go on road trips, my MO is to charge up the night before I leave on the return trip (staying when possible at places that have destination chargers).. Typically, at night Superchargers are less crowded, and occasionally cheaper, and charging the night before always makes for a quicker drive home pulling out with close to 100%. BUT, even if I do like you and procrastinate and add yet another charge stop on the drive home 🙄, I still end up saving hours and hours every year not sitting in a filthy gas station, breathing in carcinogens, and wondering if my CC number is being scanned, if the idiot on the other side is smoking while pumping, or (because I waited until the morning commute to fill up) if I am going to be LATE. 😩 Because when I “fill up” at home, I leave every single morning knowing I’ve got a “full tank.” 😎 As for the range, I have exactly the same attitude as when (so long ago) I used to drive ICE vehicles - when the needle shows me I need to to, I simply pull over and fill up. Yeah it’s a bit more involved (but not much, thanks to Tesla!), but I simply recharge when I need to and don’t sweat it. The only number I look at is Wh/mi. My longest r/t trip from CA to KY (243 Wh/mi over 5,500+ miles with lots of side trips) had an average 20min charge stop. And I am driving the shortest range, slowest charging, smallest battery pack, least expensive 2021 M3 SR+. LOVE road tripping in this car! Great video as always. 👍🏼

I agree with the FSD vs Autopilot on a roadtrip. Sometimes on a long stretch of highway, I prefer regular Autopilot with adaptive cruise control and lane keep over FSD. So, I’ve been thinking about the purchase of a Tesla model Y I’ve test drove one and was not highly impressed with the seat comfort and the road noise. So after watching this video and a few others, I’m having trouble understanding what is the advantage of having one. obviously the no gas is a plus but the hassle on long trips and your only getting 270-300 range? Vs buying a Toyota Corolla or Camry or even some Hondas getting arrange from 400 to 600 miles per tank no need to stop for 30 minutes to an hour to recharge. So if I’m just buying a 45-55k car to mostly commute around town help me see the advantage of an EV over gas

@walidoutaleb7121 Ай бұрын
Over the lifetime of the vehicle you might save 50k$ in gas depending on how much you pay for electricity. No maintenance like oil, brakes, spark plugs. A bunch of quality of life features like controlling your car's ac through a phone, sentry mode that records every moment in case of accidents or thieves. Tesla's are also rated the safest cars in case of an accident.
@edwardstewart4430
@edwardstewart4430 Ай бұрын
@@walidoutaleb7121 All true, but here in Las Vegas, the rates for insurance is about an extra 500 a month for the model Y, so after multiplying that over the life of the car, that takes back a lot of the advantages. Plus, although there is little maintenance on the EV's, after the car battery warranty runs out (100K), your now looking at a 10-20k replacement cost. That's crazy seeing most gas cars can go 150-200k, without engine replacement these days.

@@edwardstewart4430 mmh weird how insurances work for me its about the same as a toyota camry maybe its because its bundled with the house. also the battery running out of warranty does not mean you need to replace it the battery will most likely out last the car. the highest model 3 ive seen is a 400k miles on original everything with 20 % battery degradation this means the car lost 20% of its range.

Sometimes I want to get to my destination and go directly to my planned activities not have to charge before I continue with my day. If they had this, it could be baked into the travel time and not something I’d have to deal with once I’ve already arrived. I remember couple years ago the m3p and myp had really stiff suspension and tesla made it softer. These new coil's with the adaptive are probably going to get a upgrade. Softer springs would probably help alot and a software adjustment.

I bet if you do a video how the frunk close, it will go viral. It doesn't slam close like a car hood. 😂😂😂

Any problems with phantom braking? While in Williams, Arizona during our cross country trip from Pittsburgh, on an endless flat road with no traffic during the day, I had multiple issues with the car - it's like it saw a ghost. How's CCS charging with the M3P?

We use autopilot and phantom braking sucks apparently in FSD its better

May I ask if you are concerned about range why not just do the speed limit that is posted? I don’t have an electric car. But I just set cruise control in my car to what ever the speed limit is and let it do its thing. The amount of time you save is minimal compared to amount of gas I will have to pay for. And I’m just trying to save money on gas. Would it not be better to drive the speed limit? Serious question.

I would guess the computer may adjust speed on certain road conditions (uphill, wind resistance etc... to save energy. If it's calculated to reach Kingman at 23% SOC it may have to adjust accordingly.

120 kilowatt chargers in Cheyenne, WY I found when driving from California to Iowa. There were only 4 chargers and it was 10 miles from Highway 80. I’m guessing the 120 kilowatt chargers were some of the earliest Superchargers.

Isn't the rated range a mix of highway and city driving?

Correct it is but my Rivian and other vehicles just seem to deliver way closer to their advertised range

If I'm not mistaken the 120KW chargers are just older than the 150KW chargers, they came before the 150KW chargers.

Not the total solution but you can still use the accelerator when using FSD to punch it back up to a higher speed.

I drive my Model Y LR from Phx to LV...exact same results...I arrive into Kingman with about 5% charge remaining but i drive 70 mph...i tend to give myself a buffer and over charge another 5 minutes versus what tue computer says.. even with my gas car I stop and fill up at Pilot in Kingmana nd walk the dog around for 20 minutes..so for me there us no difference in driving time

"The Model 3 Performance is nearly on par with the Long Range at 55 mph, but efficiency suffers at higher speeds, likely due to the splitter, wheels, diffuser, and spoiler affecting aerodynamics." Anything above 250kw is the usage from battery heating and or HVAC.
