First Mow At Our New Property For 2022

The lawn test plots at Westberrie Acres ( / ryanknorr ) get their first mow of the 2022 season and the results have been amazing so far! Not perfect by any means, but after seeding these late in 2021 in a farm field, I certainly can't complain about these early results. I'm especially happy with the shade testing plot and will be excited to see this area as the trees gain more leaves and the shade becomes more dense on this portion of the lawn.

Ryan, have you considered doing pre-germination of your seeds before spreading them on the ground? Since you're not always there at your new property and it looks like weed pressure is greater, pre-germination might give your grass seeds a bit of a head start in establishing themselves against the weeds. I thinking of doing this pre-germination process myself for one part of my lawn which has a lot of poa triv, their seeds spreads widely and they grow fast, hoping the pre-germination will let my ryegrass establish quickly and push out the majority of the poa triv.

Hey Ryan! Backyard new wall and leveling of entire yard is almost complete. Next is sod! I know it’s not the best time of year, but it is what it is. @RyanKnorr re: Honda mower self propelled.. I have the same one and just had the same issue. Solved by tightening the belt with the inline adjustment on the cable. Just release the lock nut and extend the cable a bit by turning the longer metal sleeve. You can make sure it is tight enough by engaging the self propelled with the mower off and dragging backwards. The rear wheels should lock up and drag. or it has a bad belt, or the transmission gear is toast. Cheers!

Really looking forward to see how the shady area grass turns out for you. Not many shade grass/lawn discussions on channels. Have a rather shady lawn myself and been renovating it over several years from a wild jungle not so different from what you had there. Have been using the last couple years a mix with a couple fescues, rye and 3% Poa Supina. Lawn is thick and lush now and the Supina is clearly spreading well.

Awesome video! Great use of the drone to really capture the scale and layout of the property. It was exciting to see the lumber and trusses laid out for the build. Most of all, seeing how PRG's faster establishment prevented weeds from growing was very informative. That was one of the most informative 60 seconds I have ever seen on KZbin. That demonstration alone made the effort and cost required to create the test plots absolutely worth it.

I have the exact same Honda mower. Wheels tend to lock up when pulling backwards. I renovated my front shady lawn in September. I have some patchy bare spots, but all in all it’s thickening up and pretty green.

With the fine fescue keep it around an 1in and it spreads little happier. But I wouldn't worry about weeds and things down there as it will never be perfect especially since its next to the creek if that floods it may wash some ground away anyway. Plus all the trees

Put a berm of dirt like 2ft wide by 1ft tall just cheap garbage clay dirt break it down fine and water it heavy let it dry water it heavy and just keep it lightly watered until the down pours

I'm so excited for you, your wife, and doggies! I moved from the city to the county and we have dealt with flooding and needing to grade our lawn and redirect the flow. Make a pond for the heavy rain to flow into. Have a gazebo or pergola and a few chairs and bench, plant some lilypads, and you'll have a charming spot on your land.

@@ryanknorrlawncare what do you recommend for both? I live in New Mexico. Climate is dry and hot. Our soil is mainly sand. Tend to have higher PH levels. Applied my pre emergents, Yard mastery stress blend, RGS (root growth stimulant, and flagship. Not having good luck with those fertilizers.

@@abramsandoval8274 I would go with EqualizORR sprayed every 2-3 weeks. It's meant for that type of program and feeds little by little. That is the program I use on my front yard. We also have GreenORR SP which is a unique iron product for extra greening. These can be mixed together in the same tank.
