What do we mean when we say Aboriginal or Indigenous communities? What are pow-wows and smudging ceremonies? What role did history play in the current relationship we have with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities? Joining me to discuss this, and much more is Coty Zachariah, Chairman of National Aboriginal Caucus for the Canadian Federation of Students.

I am a First Nations woman of the Swampy Cree people and I have no hostility to Inuit people. I respect their culture. If you respect their culture, I would not use the name 'Eskimo' as it is an insult my ancestors had poorly given them. They prefer Inuit. I prefer First Nation as I am a descendant of the First Peoples of this land.

And the Métis were forced into a Scrip system separated from the Cree, Dené & Ojibway relatives. Then force into extreme poverty, displaced living in shanties on the side of the road, called the "Road Allowa nce People". The government & Catholic church divided & separated us. But, we're finding our way back...

@@rosalinddunphy4596 Yeah I heard and read that many Metis faced racism from both First Nations And Whites but rarely of ever ran into Inuits yeah.

Why can't woman wear those clothes? Just a bit sexists.

Women could, more often they wear ribbon skirts but increasingly people are relaxing the norms around gendered clothing in community. It’s just more commonly worn by men.

Steven Zheng You know that divide and conquer is a weapon well used by the occupiers. Look at my complexion but my DNA says I’m 50% Native and 34% European. I hope later on we all don’t start fighting about how much Native you are, if you are light or of a darker complexion and so on
