Hey! I spent my life around boats, 5 years as a cadet deck officer, and 1 trip as a 3/O, farmer and instrumentation sales engineer with 24 years as a performing guitarist singer in several bluegrass, country and show band's as well as a solo singer, writer guitarist. So your channel ticks many boxes for me. Absolutely love your little ship and want one for my missus and I. We live in KwaZulu Natal with some nice inland dams, estuaries and 2 large harbours. The coast is very dangerous with a strong 7 knot current running Southwest wards and when flowing against a strong Southwester the famous 1 in a hundred year rogue waves form causing many shipping disasters over the years. We'll done and keep 'em comin'!

When doing solo open water crossings, perhaps you should "snap into" a connecting life-line for when you venture outside the cockpit...a 30 foot tether connecting you to the boat in the event that you tumble overboard. Use a simple light cord with a carabiner on the end that you can snap onto a loop on your life jacket. In the wind and a strong current, you could find yourself separated from the boat pretty quick.

i love these c-dories, though the 22-25 sized boat range is becoming quite populated with "cruisers". the C-dory's are really "basic" and i love that, they don't have all the fluff, in truth i won't mind a c-dory 16 that was "slightly" built out more with a marine toilet (maybe by giving up some of the V-birth. 16 doen't "need" a kitchen, can do with just a cooler and a small butane stove. that something like a Ranger 23 has. bathroom, shower, large kitchen area, lots of wood everywhere, thing is made to sleep like 5 people. for a 23' its really more then is needed for a lot of people. Nordics entry level is now 26'. most other companies start their cuddy cab and such at 28' plus, there are very few small, boats in the 16-20' range made for a single person or older couple just to take a trip on. to drive up and down river and lake from city to city...

Why don't you rig up your clamp fan on the helm station if you have to batten down the shuttles against the spray? I know how sticky the Gulf gets and I would have given some of my beer ration for one when I was steering through there. I also had the awesome experience of steering our 32000 ton bulk carrier up the Mississippi to Baton Rouge and back down to New Orleans as well as Savannah Georgia, Beaumont and Port Arthur in Texas. Great times! Also watch keeping on nav, lookout and helm duties from Newport Connecticut down to New Orleans visiting New York, Charleston, Baltimore, Newport News, Miami and Houston on a beautiful 12500 ton general cargo heavy lift freighter with a 250 ton SWL Stulken Derrick midship and 2 x 30 ton Stulkens fore and aft with 5 ton swl Derrick's on vertical Samson posts for light cargo handling using union purchase rigs. I loved that ship! I also did 3 trips to the Far East on her in my junior 1st year at 17 years of age, qualifying as an Able Bodied Seaman and Stevedore Foreman. 3 cyclones ( a typhoon in the South China Sea, Hurricane Dean off the Eastern US seaboard and Cyclone Demoina off South Africa). Also 2 trips on a 52000 ton Container Ship to Europe and 2 trips to Australia and Mauritius on a 16000 ton general cargo ship which was a beautiful vessel. Those were the days! I really enjoy your adventures on your beautiful little ship. She has beautiful lines and seems to have great sea keeping abilities for a small vessel.

I saw your mouth tape- have you read the book “Breath” by James Nestor ? I am just starting it, but your comment made me think you may have. I havent... But I own and have read his book DEEP which is great. I have thought about the RV air conditioner, but don't want the generator and AC unit on my roof. I like it simple.
