Looking forward to turbo change video. I hear you need to make some home made tools to do it with body on to get to some hidden nuts. Just checking to be double sure safe - just in case - you know that the oil flows from outside the filter to the inside so you need to check the outside fins of the oil filter. I just could not tell in the video if you did this or were checking the inside. Great work and such helpful videos.
@OUTBACKDiscovery2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad your looking forward to it because I'm not haha And yeah correct the fins I was inspecting were from the outside face of the filter 🍻 was bloody nervous hoping it was going to be nice and clean haha I can see that the gasket sealant was applied to thick in certain areas though as I kept finding small traces of it through the filter
@richardwilliams86672 жыл бұрын
@@OUTBACKDiscovery yeah I saw that and figured that added up. I was chearing for you and Australia that Christian and Vera had good competition. Where did the gasket sealant come from do you reckon?
@OUTBACKDiscovery2 жыл бұрын
@@richardwilliams8667 would of be from the cam end bearing caps where you put a little bit of sealant where they join aswell as I do it onnthe rounded corners of the rocker Cover gasket aswell

As far as ’generic’ service kits go it’s a no from me. Given how delicate the TDV6 seems to be with bearings and cranks I only use OEM or genuine LR filters. I buy from the UK five sets at a time. Were you living in the 6171 before moving?
@OUTBACKDiscovery2 жыл бұрын
I wasn't to far away from 6171 Understandable with the genuine filters I'm not to fazed aslong as the filters are the same micron rating

Hi Ryan, good to see you back at it. Got a question for you, what flavour of Penrite are you using? I'm working on collating some oil sample information from my engine and presenting a video on what I find, but it would be good to get some more with other brands of oil. If anyone in Perth wants to help out I'd be happy to get a sample bottle to you
@OUTBACKDiscovery2 жыл бұрын
Hey shane im running the penrite HPR5 fully synthetic 5w-40 as its what penrite recommend for the vehicle in both the early model disco 3's and for the ford territory's, Tried the castrol 5w30 once and noticed my engine seemed to be alot noiser then when it was running on the penrite so have just decided to stick to penrite haha. Also yeah keen on getting a oil analysis done on it more then happy to work with you on that
@Shanes_Shed2 жыл бұрын
@@OUTBACKDiscovery that would be awesome, I’ve been running with Valvoline for a while and just make a slight change (thanks to Covid supply restraints) to a different valvoline product, but it has a better spec. HPR5 has MB229.5 approval which is a very good OEM spec so I’d be interested to see the wear levels from it. How long does it take you between services?
@OUTBACKDiscovery2 жыл бұрын
@@Shanes_Shed I do mine every 7000km or 6 months probly isn't required most of the time but I like having fresh oil haha Yeah A3 / B4 rating is important After the rebuild I done the castrol start stop 5w-30 for first 2000km as that's what previous owner ran But after putting penrite back Into it he just runs so much smoother and quiter
@Shanes_Shed2 жыл бұрын
@@OUTBACKDiscovery That castrol oil is quite a thick SAE30, right at the upper limit which probably explains why its also an A3/B3, A3/B4 spec. The C3 version of the stop start 5w30 would be a better oil based on its approvals

My Disco was going into limp mode when I had a boost leak. maybe you also have some?
@OUTBACKDiscovery2 жыл бұрын
No boost leak unfortunately spent copious hours under and around the engine looking for boost leaks without any luck All the faults are relating to the turbo actuator, So when it did first happen I was like dam must a boost leak somewhere but its all sealed sweet haha was devastated When driving it boosts fine and is super responsive however it only occasionally plays up and is normally when setting cruise control or just randomly when driving When I watch my boost gauge and turbo actuator during it faulting it also plays up at the same time

Havnt seen one or heard of one I'd imagine it being quite hard to do on these with the amount of technology that's in the buggers without some major electrical work and programming
