First Oil Change since the Engine Swap - KTM 790 890 Adventure
I'm checking the oil after riding 650 miles since the new engine was fitted. Using Repsol 10w50 Fully Synthetic oil as an engine flush, I check the oil screens and filters for any contamination or metallic parts from the salvaged engine, which now has almost 3000 miles on it.

Have you noticed a difference in torque or power compared to the 790?

The 790 spun up a lot quicker with the lighter crank and felt a bit more aggressive, but it did have Rottweiler maps on the PCV as well. 890 power feels mellower but you do gain a lot of speed quickly further up the rev range. Torque wise there's not much in it tbh, but I have gone back to a 16T sprocket on the 890 unit, the 790 was on a 15T. I've just had the ecu remapped with an 890 tuned map, no PCV or piggyback, directly modified on the 790 ECU OEM mapping and O2 sensor delete. That should keep the AFR's in the 13's throughout the rev range.

my engine is not "broken in " after 32000km. 1st and 2nd are sticky gears, KTM blames the oil (which has been changed) but the truth is their engines are crap.

Could be, although my 790 had no problems in the gears department. Maybe there's tighter tolerances now on the 890...call it progress? I have a Rekluse clutch pack and a factory pro shift to fit yet...hopefully that'll change the way it shifts in a good way.

​@@Project_789T the factory pro extension won't help much because you can't properly adjust the clutch cable, I had it on mine and took it off after 8000km, also the clutch cable itself has elongated and required changing.

Never had a problem with the factory pro shift and the cable...are you thinking of the One Finger Clutch from Camel ADV? I. was talking about this tweak to the internal shifting... www.factorypro.com/products/shift_kit,Factory_Pro.html

@@Project_789T you are right, I was thinking about the Camel Adv stuff. That detent arm won''t fix sticky gearboxes though.
