Just watched part 1 and 2 today. You are doing fine. :) Monster Hunter is about patience, especially when you first start playing and getting to know the game. I started this spring. Its important to find the weapon, that fits you. :) You may need to make some settings adjustments, in the game options, for a better time as well. I couldnt play on keyboard/mouse, game didnt like my mouse, but I did pick up a Xbox controller (i recommend over a PS controller) Take your time, learn your weapon combos, learn the monsters weaknesses and how the monster reacts. You can always use Great Jagras as a living punching bag, after using the training room :) Good Luck. I hope to see more!

Don't sweat flailing and not knowing stuff. MH asks for a lot of commitment to master (I'm still learning new things). It's not uncommon for veterans to have more than 1000 hours in a single game. Are you more comfortable with a controller? MH is pretty new to PC, so it was designed with a controller in mind. So it sounds like you may still have some confusion about Defender Gear (I can't quite tell though). Every weapon has a Defender branch so Greatswords aren't the Defender Gear, they just have a version that is a Defender Weapon. Think of the weapons as classes in other games. Also strongly recommend soloing a monster first before SOSing. I understand just wanting to progress, but you're going to hit a wall and the game's going start feeling unfair and unfun. MH can be brutal, especially the first time around. Each monster teaches you something and you keep the knowledge from this game and every MH game you play after. That being said, the main point is to have fun. Play how you want. Try approaching monsters on their sides or slightly to the left/right of the head. You almost never want to meet them head on, as Barroth was demonstrating. Also if a monster charges you, step to the side then follow after them. They don't chase; they just target where you are and run straight until their animation ends. You'll get a little bit of time to hit them after they finish the charge (be mindful that some monsters can chain multiple charges so you want to be ready to step aside again). You can upgrade armor. It takes armor spheres (you get them as quest rewards and other places) and money. There's a limit to how much you can upgrade and that limit is progression locked. You can select armor for looks (fashion hunting), but in general, look for base defense numbers and armor skills (they're listed under the right hand panel, I think, in the armor crafting menu and some other places). Armor skills give you bonuses like higher crit chance, better defense, etc. This isn't super important right now, but will become so in the higher ranks. Much much later, in MR, you can get layered armor. I don't know much about Dual Blades, Longsword, or Bow, so take this with a grain of salt. I'm pretty sure Dual Blades is a stamina management weapon. You go in and out of Demon Mode to keep your DPS up. Longsword uses hits to build up its spirit gauge (sword looking thing in the upper left), then you unleash a combo where if the last hit hits, it moves the gauge up to the next level and you do more damage. Bow (and all the ranged weapons) are item management weapons, Bow is a much closer range weapon than it appears like it should be. There's a optimal distance you need to be from the target for it to do proper damage. It uses different ammo to do damage, and you need to craft that. If you find a weapon that feels good to you, you might want to look up a weapon tutorial to get a handle on the moveset. Arekkz, Ruikan, and Gaijin Hunter all have pretty good tutorials. I'm pretty sure your dancing friend in the Zorah hunt was using a paid DLC emote. Zorah is one of the worst fights in the series, imo. I'm sure somebody likes it, but I can't really imagine why. And, yeah, it's confusing what they want you to do. Keep having fun.

I agree with just about everything you said. Only things I want to add is that longsword has a couple counter attacks that will let you get the spirit gauge up quicker. Also that emote when used in the zora fight is a default emote

@@vultar9999 Thank you! A lot of this is super helpful, i definitely think you are right about not sosing for every monster 😂😭 I think i’d be better with controller, but I would like to keep at m+k, just because it’s now my main way of gaming, that being said i’m really not opposed rom stepping away from it. Thank you!! 🙏❤️

As someone with a ton of hours in this game get comfortable with being out of your league and learning a lot, there are items, traps, environmental traps, ecological creatures that you can use to your advantage but you need to experience and experiment with a lot of different things to understand them At some point In your play through it may be more risky to shoot sos flares because a lot of other people will join a quest expecting to be carried with you or they do nothing and sit at camp. Mind you the whole team has a collective 3 lives so if there are 3 deaths or carts as we call them the mission is over! Anything “defender” will just make you want to quit the game when it actually becomes challenging You will need to do optional quests if you want to get certain equipment and other items that will be essential to help you get farther so I suggest to do some research on which ones are needed. The greatsword is one of the slowest weapons in the game and the dual blades are one of the fastest so if your comfortable with both you can use just about any weapon and get used to the way it plays. Focus on learning how your weapons work to begin along with the items then in mid game learn about armor skills and how to stack them properly and you will see great improvements. Look forward to seeing more hunts and hope this helps give you some direction As always HAPPY HUNTING👍

Thank you! Definitely need to remember it’s not just about beating a monster and moving on to the next (in the basic sense 😂), i will try not to SOS so much! Definitely need to build upon some more before i next play, thank you!! 😊

Please remember, pre hunt preparation is more important than the hunt itself. The best thing is to go through a little mental checklist. 1. Can I upgrade my weapon and armors? 2. Do I need special armor skills / weapons, for a monster? (Not important right now, but getting used to the hunters notes and armor skills will help in the long run) 3. Is my inventory prepared? (Make a set, so you have enough mega potions and whatever you need. Also keeps your inventory from being full.) 4. Eat, according to the monster? If in doubt use defense up until you're more acustomed to the monsters moves. Also after your quests, remember! Check the status of your farm, it helps keeping potions and such things stocked up. And of course the mission board, doing those "side quests" like gathering honey, will give you armor spheres to strenghten your armor. (Not as important in the Iceborn DLC because of steamworks, but a must early game.) Finally don't feel bad about sending the SOS Flare, its there to be used, and as long as you have fun, no one will complain helping out. Keep up the good fight! I'm looking forward to your fight against my sweet little green queen. With her you have to remember, she doesn't bite and just wants to play... and well poison you,... and burn you,... and trample you... But she is a sweet thing. Really!

At this point in the game, are side quests available? I didn’t know that 😂 I should probably explore a little more rather than just trying to “beat” the monsters 😂 As for the inventory, is the box that gives things at the start not enough at this point in the game, or should i just start incorporating this in now? (hope that makes sense 😂) Thank you for this little checklist; it will definitely be helpful! Hopefully i remember it. As for SOS, i do think i should try a few monsters by themselves without, but i agree- if a feature is there, i will use it, i enjoy playing games with others too, so its really something im not too opposed to, it would just be nice to not fully rely on it! and i cant wait to fight her 👀😂 Thank you so much for the tips!! ❤

@@kitty_kale They are not really side quests, I just forgot the english name for it. 😅 But next to the supply store are three NPCs standing together, it is also irrelevant with who of them you talk. Just get familiar with everything they offer, it will help greatly for making weapons and armor. 🙂 In the box, there's only the bare minimum, having extra stuff makes quests easier, like flashbugs or trapping equipment, and of course dung bombs! (They can make a monster run away, so you don't have to deal with two of them.)
