Thanks everyone - just want to apologize in advance for an awkward top in this video. Please forgive me - had no idea the mic would cause some wardrobe issues until I got the final footage. Lessons learned!

I used to search KZbin for the perfect, or at least decent and informative videos, which would take forever. I built a bunch of rustic trash bins from an Ana White blog, years ago, after I got back from Afghanistan.. I now own a woodworking LLC because I fell in love with the beauty and simplicity wood has to offer, and I have gone straight to Ana when I need help with anything. Thank you Ana!

Ana, ur AWESOME! Good job with that video. I’m a huge fan of pocket holes. You know ppl say pocket holes aren’t strong. Well I think they very strong. AAMOF there’s a video on here where this dude proves their strength by building a car ramp assembled only by pocket screws and drove a Ford Excursion onto it and it didn’t break down. Actually didn’t even budge. AWESOME!

Ana, please do not apologize for your tops, You are perfect just the way you are, and your video's are very informative as I just built my first bookshelf after watching your video. There is no reason ever to apologize for being a beautiful woman. What matters most in life is sharing with others, and thank you for that.

Thank you Ana I just got the jig, and on the step bit I was using the pilot tip as the measure point, not the step area and the screws were not seating in the wood, ended up using longer screws, but you showed me the problem, TY
@MrJohnnyboyrebel10 жыл бұрын
I am a huge fan of pocket holes, but I think that adding glue to any joint increases the overall strength immensely. Screws are really just clamps and the glue makes the joint so strong that the wood will fail before the glue does. Screws can and do loosen with time as the wood expands and contracts with changes in humidity, so adding plain old Elmer's is the best method (I prefer Titebond III over Elmer's since it is waterproof and doesn't expand like Gorilla glue.) By the way, I've made the doll bunkbed and my granddaughter helped to paint it. She loves it! Don't forget to mention that there are fillers that match the pocket holes if you want to hide them from view. They come in stainable or paintable versions.
@ABCofWoodwork10 жыл бұрын
I agree that pocket holes are great for all sorts of things but I wouldn't glue this type of joint. The glue won't help much at all because it just gets absorbed along the end-grain. Try just using glue with no screws and you'll see what I mean.
@300leothelion10 жыл бұрын
I'm a Joiner and I use glue on every joint. Like you say, the screws just clamp the work piece together while the glue goes off. We use PVA white wood glue mostly. If I'm building doors or windows I'll use PU glue and mortice joints.
@twotwentyswift7 жыл бұрын
I assume the type of wood would make a difference. I haven't done much woodworking but seemed to have good results on oak with Gorilla wood glue. I'm guessing the really hard wood would absorb less glue on the end-grain.
@spoooderminlovesdolantrump46356 жыл бұрын
Not for end grain, see Matthias Wandels experiments. Steve Ramsey suggests pushing glue into the end grain before adding more glue to connect the boards but I haven't seen anyone prove how effective that is

I love using my pocket hole jig for making cabinets and such. One life hack that I read somewhere and it actually helped a lot was using nail polish on all the embossed measurement guides so they are easier to see. Luckily I have daughters, so I had plenty of options. I ended up using yellow because it contrasts so well against the blue plastic.

Great jig! One of the best purchases I ever made for my shop. You can crank out projects at lighting speed and the joints are super strong. Highly recommend.

Nothing to apologize for regarding your wardrobe. If that's all someone sees here, they are totally missing the point of your videos. As to the Kreg jig, I resisted getting one for a long time because I somehow felt like it was "cheating". I finally broke down and got one to finish a coffee table project for a customer, and I have to say I am impressed. The Kreg jig will always have a place in my workshop.

One feature of the K4 that isn't featured in this video is the vac attachment that is included. It allows you to hook a vacuum up to the Kreg Jig. It sucks the sawdust out of holes on the back of the jig which keeps your workspace clean and keeps the jig running cooler. I imagine some people start with the mini jig to see if they like it but if you have a project or two in mind for the jig, I would get the full K4MS. I have only heard people say it is expensive before they buy it, never after.

Thanks for your videos. Finally getting to have some time in my life that I can pursue DIY projects, and I happened to come across your site before I found the KZbin channel. i've heard , that half way through the drilling of the hole. pull it out to let the sawdust come out . which will make your drill not dull as fast. and it will last longer. just a tip.
@christinerodriguez148110 жыл бұрын
do you need to pre drill the adjoining piece?
@300leothelion10 жыл бұрын
No need to pre drill. Kreg screws are all self tapping wood screws. They'll drive themselves in. Just make sure the 2 pieces of wood are clamped down tightly so they wont move as you screw them together. Hope this help. ;-)

disadvantage of using Kreg jigs are the large holes it leaves behind everywhere. Of course you can cover that with plastic cover buttons, but the finish doesn't look that cool having those plastic covers everywhere. Maybe fill the holes with wood filler, but then you never can disassemble it anymore.
@ptdecker9 жыл бұрын
Kreg does make special hole plugs (I don't work for Kreg) that seem to do a good job of filling them. But, you'd still have the disassembly problem.
@cliffcarlo1808 жыл бұрын
Pocket holes are usually under a table on the rear of your project so that they are not visible from the front or top of a table for example.

Dear beautiful carpenter, tie your hair back or wear a scarf or a hat, as your hair open like that, could get you into a big trouble working w/ machinery. big safety issue, also wear an apron or something or a vest so that wood chips don't hurt your chest or perhaps that cleavage area !! otherwise, Awesome handy woman.
