This was spectacular! Thank BEEFS! I am born and raised Hawaii. In my younger days, I was usually the only girl, got my Churchill fins in hand, going in. Sandy beach on Oahu is deadly shore break too, and when it gets big it breaks outside. I ended up having to get saved there when a clean up set got me caught inside, big, big, 15+ ft. No lifeguards posted back then, late 60's. Luckily, someone had there eye on me, saw me going in and had been watching me bodysurf. The sets kept coming and coming. I took what I thought to be my last breathe and someone's arms wrapped around my waist, and he says, I gotcha, we're good! Aloha to you all from Maui!

That first techno instrumental sounded like something Gary Newman would have done. This would have been 40 years ago, before y’all’s time. 6:46 dude is swimming with all his strength but no match for the falls. I’ve been that guy and come out a bloody mess being drilled into the sand below. Again, back before 90% of the guys owned a wetsuit. Maybe more. What is so crazy to me is that doing the wedge properly still results in getting an incredibly heavy close out in 2 feet of water from a 15-20 foot wave. Like people are psyched right before they get swallowed up.

The wedge is all about acceptance. If you show up and get in the water with the intent to try to catch a wave, you have accepted that you will also get absolutely destroyed. You cannot have one without the other. Such is the duality od the wedge.
