When she did interviews around this time (release of Reputation album) she said “There will be no more explanations. There will only be reputation.” One of my favorite things about her is that she takes what people and the media says and responds with a “watch this” attitude. Speak Now, her third album released in 2010, was 100% written by her without any collabs because people were saying she didn’t write her own songs. They said she can’t dance so when she took time away (believing her career was over) she learned and included it in future tours. Rumored she doesn’t sing live but she does. If you listen to a song off an album or music video, it is different (sometimes a lot, sometimes a little) from her live versions. It’s been said she’s not sexy because she doesn’t play up her sexiness. Watch Vigilante Shit live from the Eras Tour because she says she can do sexiness and make people question their sexuality. It’s amazing watching her make history.

Agree mostly 👍🏻 minor correction to the timeline. Also, she's always done decent choreography imo; they were really commenting on her dancing at award shows, I think. Along with the general "no one is that good" bs. she said the Reputation quote much later, in an interview with Ellen in 2019 when she was promoting Lover. She didn't say anything in interviews in 2017 ---- she didn't give any once she went into seclusion in 2016. (no album, no promotions). I went looking, and she did only the 2017 Time interview (print) about her sexual assault trial, which didn't discuss music at all. I think the 2019 Ellen Show interview was her first since the end of the 1989 tour.

You will discover there is very little that Taylor cannot do, especially when the media or trolls attack her for something - she always claps back stronger. She could have stayed in the country lane forever and made a very good living, but she was unwilling to stay in a box. She also used the Kanye diss to disappear for a while and really work on herself, her songwriting, her stagecraft, etc. It's since the pandemic that she really exploded by pivoting her style again. You'll need to also get into the songs that are about her old record label (My Tears Ricochet and Vigilante Sh!t especially) Big Machine and about Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta and how they made a deal for her catalog rights without giving her the opportunity to buy it. She's gotten her revenge though - she's in the process of re-recording and re-releasing her early albums and is including "vault" tracks (usually 3-6 songs) that were written at the time of each of those albums but got cut for whatever reason. Reputation and her debut called Taylor Swift are the only ones left and with songs this fire on the original Reputation everyone is expecting the vault tracks to be crazy good. For Vigilante when you listen to that one it must be the Eras Tour version - you will thank us later. For My Tears Riccochet - I would say the Long Pond Sessions version, as it will show you yet another side of Taylor.

Slow motion is added in post production. They use it in her earlier tour films, too. fwiw, Taylor Swift Productions hires the film directors /cameramen;/ editors. In the 1989 tour, they added muzzle flash to her fingers when she shot someone (also in the Look What You Made Me Do video); edited out a dancer in the middle of a song (making her appear to defy gravity); and some other things, She knows what she wants the stage show to look like, and the designers for all the different pieces work with her to create it: stage construction / sound, lights, LED bracelet programming, / wind, pyro , steam and fireworks timing. Her music director and band leader working on translating the album to a live setting; interstitial music for set/costume changes. Choreographers and costume selection. Endless details. Reputation was the first tour she didn't have to fit the stage into arenas; they supersized it.

Good job. 👍🏻 Rapping When Taylor was starting out, she'd fill in her shows with covers; Eminem, the Police, Train, anything she was in the mood for. For a promotion for the CMA awards (in 2009?) she did a humorous rap skit with T Paine as a joke; there used to be dozens of reactions to that, but someone hit them with a bunch of copyright crap, it is harder to find now. Try to find Thug Story ( title played off her single, Love Story). She is a country music lyricist (storyteller) who does _not_ color inside the lines. She was marketed by the label as "country" and used banjos and fiddles (and mandolins, 12 String and electric guitars, and piano, and ukulele --- and a heavy handed drummer). Punk band covers and screamo versions of her songs were not uncommon. She is pretty much her own genre. 😍😍 A change to synths and pop production doesn't mean much -- she'll do any of it solo, with a guitar or piano. Even on her first album, she got some excellent directors for her videos; she's learned more along the way, and now directs her own videos. She was supposed to direct a film last year, but the actors' strike prevented her from finishing the project (she did get permission to film her concert tour). To get a real handle on how she sees herself, watch the biopic Miss Americana on Netflix; and The Long Pond Studio Sessions (Disney+) for an in - studio play - through of folklore and discussion of how the pandemic affected their music (with Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, her collaborators).
