2:46 he said "people who don't feed you always the first to talk about your life, look at the irony shame you for public con dey beg you for side." He is basically saying people who don't contribute anything to his life are always the ones having something bad to say about him and they later come back to ask him to help them. Nevertheless you did great!❤👍🏿

He is speaking both Yoruba Language and pidgin English ( a sought of informal modified English spoken in Nigeria 🇳🇬 , Ghana 🇬🇭, and western Cameroon 🇨🇲 ) Just like how you have Jamaican patwah. The female voice at the beginning is also in Yoruba (a western Nigerian native language) and she is giving him a traditional Eulogy

wow, thank you so much for the information about the languages and song format (the Eulogy part makes sense now)! I truly appreciate it💓💓

If it will cost my peace. Then I will take my leave. If it’s not money don’t disturb me please. Money doesn’t bring happiness. It’s when I got the money that I realized. But I’m not a hypocrite Life comes at you so fast, before you know it you’ve become what you hate. That’s what he was saying😂

Wonderful analysis and reaction vid. As a fellow Yoruba as Adekunle, I can relate. Are you an African cultural anthropologist or linguist? Firstly, the spoken word section at the beginning is called an oriki or praise poetry, a defining characteristic of Yoruba culture. Not a eulogy as previously stated. Unlike a eulogy, an oriki is optimistic and uplifting. And all orikis are biographical of the subject. So, in Adekunle Gold's case, his full name is Adekunle Kosoko, which indicates that he's royalty and a direct descendent of Oba Kosoko, a prominent 19th century Oba or King of Lagos. Another clue to Adekunle's royal background is his first name which means: this house is full of royalty. And, so Adekunle's oriki has plenty of references to Lagos and his royal status. Nice work. Please keep it up!!

Thank you so much for all of the information! Adekunle certainly has an interesting background!💓 I am a college student majoring in History at the moment but I have a background in humanities, literary analysis, and international studies from my high school education. I've had an interest in Afrobeats for about 4 years now so I love to learn about the cultural context of the music. I learn so much from you guys!!! Sending love💓💓
@oluwaremilekunbell61592 жыл бұрын
@@glitrcamille You're right. So much Nigerian cultural references in these afrobeats lyrics and videos that most KZbin analysts miss. So what you're doing is unique and overdue. BTW, Lagos in Southwest Nigeria is the epicentre of afrobeats and the capital of the Nigerian music industry. All the big record labels are based in Lagos. And it's a Yoruba megacity with 20 million people. That said, because it's the biggest city with the largest economy, it attracts non-Yoruba Nigerians from across the country as well as expats. And, because Lagos is a predominantly Yoruba city, you'll notice that most of the prominent afrobeats musicians are Yoruba including Adekunle Gold, Tiwa Savage, Davido, Niniola, WizKid, Olamide, Naira Marley, etc. And several non-Yoruba afrobeats musicians sing primarily in Yoruba because they were born and/or raised in Lagos, such as Burna Boy. The second biggest ethnic group represented in afrobeats are Igbos from Southeast Nigeria like Tekno, Phyno, Patoranking, etc. So, you'll need a good handle on Yoruba and Igbo culture to accurately analyze afrobeats. But I see from your reactions that you've done your homework! Let us know in the comments if you need anything.

When I first discovered music from Africa (specifically Nigeria at the time) back in 2018, I quickly realized that there are little to no translations available for American English speakers. Without translations, it is difficult to understand the cultural context and purpose of deep music from any genre in Africa. For many years leading up to when I started my reaction channel, I could only "feel" the music but I never knew if I understood it well. So I decided to make videos where I put my thoughts out there and asked listeners if they could help me fill in the gaps or redirect my analysis if I was wrong. In this reaction I made a few mistakes in my analysis but my subscribers gave me explanations and now I can truly appreciate Adekunle's artistry. I'm sorry if my style of reactions is not to your liking but I will not be changing because of the reasons listed above. Hopefully you understand that I genuinely do love this music and that the purpose of my reactions are to better understand the music that I love. Thank you for your comment! I hope that helps💓💓
