Ailee is actually one of the most streamed female artists in Korea and one of the most-awarded too. She's a household name in Korea, just not so much internationally. She actually won all best rookie awards when she debuted and she's the only artist who won Best Vocal Performance 4 years in a row at MAMA awards. Her social media presence is not that big but Koreans respect her as a diva.

OMG... I don't really ever comment, but I had to for this one. I was just waiting for the day you would discover Ailee and her stunning voice. Ailee was super popular back when I was getting into kpop and I fell in love with her voice. She makes all of those amazing techniques and high notes look so easy and effortless!! I would rewatch her covers of Whitney Houston's I will always always you and Beyonce's Halo all the time because I was just so impressed by her voice and the emotion she's able to portray through it. Needless to say, I love Ailee and I was 100% sure that you would truly enjoy and appreciate her vocals once you discovered her. I'm so glad you're getting into Ailee! She's been one of my favs since I got into kpop years ago. I really fell in love with her on Immortal Songs. She's won several times. I recommend checking those performances out if you can find them as they older. When Mamamoo started appearing on Immortal Songs, they were referred to as four Ailees. So it feels like everything has come full circle with Ailee and Wheein now being on the same label.

Edit: I edited my original comment after others gave me clarified details on her contract situation! Didn't want to accidentally pass on wrong info. Thanks people :) So Ailee's situation is an interesting one for sure. She's considered one of the most respected singers of her generation and made WAVES when she was up and coming and was huge during her earlier years with the back to back power songs & show appearances. But she kind of disappeared off people's radar and didn't get as big as she deserved internationally imo. She was criticized for her appearance over the years vs the idol standard + it's rumored her former label essentially had her blacklisted from major network programs and performances. She's a household name in Korea espec in regards to OSTs - she's had several record-breaking drama songs. She's from the States, started off doing covers on KZbin where she got discovered and first got introduced to the S.K. public on a show as the mentee of a veteran singer.

Basically Majority in S.K. believe in a "SICK SLIM BEAUTY STANDARD of IDOL", they try to take off the crown of Idol from any Artist if they are not harshly to be "On Diet", But we know it is just Contradict for "Power Vocal" and "On Diet", It is quite physically demanding to support those High note with a thickness tone, Ailee was insulted in YMC because she find she lost her voice if she keep obey the Diet standard.(500kcal Daily) This is the reason why she has to leave after the contract.

@@mc3331 in regards to the specific quote you pointed out, it was mainly bc of the when she and her friends indirectly hinted on social media after her contract ended that she had her next album essentially ready but couldn't use any of it bc "they weren't her's anymore. The discourse/rumor at that time was centered around how when YMC was absorbed by a bigger agency group, management changed. And "legal issues" and "contract disagreements" occured after where when Ailee didn't agree to resign the contract which was up after "Room Shaker". The theory had been that once she made the decision to not re-sign, they cut her "Room Shaker" promos and public appearances bc prior to the actual song release she had been slated for shows/events that was later pulled from. She, nor the company, has ever fully confirmed your theory nor what I've said. Just was saying what a giant chunk of the fans had gathered from the stuff she had insinuated before. The whole forced "yo-yo diet" she was on throughout her career to appease the public could have been a factor as to why she didn't re-sign with an idol-focused company vs an indie-artist company (bc of the standards for idols vs artists/singers). 🤷 Did edit my original comment to make the diction less "cause & effect" and specify they were rumored + the point you mentioned about appearances.

@@Nicoleicole As much as I dislike her old company she said many times they never put her on a diet. It was her own decision and it didn't have much to do with her not renewing her contract. She finished the 7-year contract and preferred to establish her own company, probably for more creative freedom and also because they didn't promote her properly. Also technically she had no legal dispute with them since the contract expired but indeed there were rumors they were blackballing her and preventing her from promoting on music shows. Her last studio album was recorded under the old company but released in July 2019 months after she left the agency (February). She could release the album just fine, but she couldn't promote it properly.

Ailee was the first Kpop artist I followed predebut. To say I was obsessed with her back in the day is an understatement lol. She was and is still one of my favorite vocalists and performers. Mamamoo was compared to her when they became popular from their first appearance on Immortal Song 2. They were considered “4 Ailees” bc of how vocally powerful all four of them were and naturally charismatic on stage. You should definitely check out her stages on Immortal Song as well! Homegirl is a LEGEND.

oh, you'll be hearing several of these songs in various offstage mamamoo videos (and likely already heard one or two, though i'm unsure). her music was pretty much everywhere back in 2013-15, if not a bit earlier (she debuted in 2012). "u&i" especially was known pretty much everywhere and sung by nearly everyone at the drop of a hat... she also performed on 'immortal songs 2' fairly often, which, of course, are must-see performances but, sadly, not must react to (thanks kbs!). sometimes opposite a similarly named solo artist that's definitely worth checking out, ali...who has an incredibly unique voice she was actually born in the united states, colorado to be exact, though she grew up in jersey. she moved to south korea in 2010. she's quite good friends with amber, former rapper of f(x), because of this... as amber put it, the english speaking community in south korea is pretty small, so everyone gets to know everyone else and celeb or not, they often hang out together sadly, her story involves one of the darker sides of the music industry... she really do quite well early on, though there was the overwork thing that's entirely too common in kpop... and things got even worse when she opted to not re-sign with her agency but instead opted to become a free agent, despite being in the middle of working on an album at the time... the label apparently had delayed that album specifically to try and ensure she'd re-sign with them so weren't happy she didn't (i dunno how true this is but really wouldn't put it past them...). she thought they'd continue with the album, just with her now being a free agent and things would be good... but afterwards, once she founded her own one-woman agency, she suddenly found herself blacklisted from performing anywhere... all her broadcast activities suddenly just got cancelled with no warning... her former label's founder had gotten some influence due to managing mnet show contestants and was supposedly using that to get her blacklisted out of spite (again, i don't think it was ever actually verified but several sources hinted quite heavily at it from what i recall... and read in a brief search just now. and again, absolutely wouldn't put it past them) so... she went quiet for a while, a couple of american releases, a few ost songs. and now she's in ravi's agency, the first artist that signed with it. with wheein being the second

She is considered the best kpop artist, but in reality for many she belongs to the main leagues of the most veteran Korean artists. She has done collaborations with many renowned artists in Korea and everyone likes working with her. her mentor once mentioned that she had nothing to teach him because she already knew everything. Kpop idols respect her a lot and even say that she is the best of all. her previous venture of hers hurt him a lot, but she has stood up to it. Unlike other artists, she has done it alone with her voice and perseverance, because she loves to sing and her voice sounds the same both in the studio and live. she is very versatile she sings, dances, raps and composes.

ok i finished the video and im sorry this comment is so long.. i was gonna just write a few suggestions but ended up info dumping in it so i dont mind if u read or not its just here if u want it :) since she did debut in 2012 their quite a bit to go through with all her songs and she has ALOT of osts. if u decide to react to her at all and decide to go in order her debut song is "heaven". but if u do not want to do an in order thing my reccomendations for the kind of "essential"/ most favored songs of hers (in my opinion)- mvs: i will show you mind your own buisiness u & i room shaker (more recent) osts: goodbye my love i will go to you like the first snow as for reccomendations outside of mvs i suggest pretty much any live stage but she has been on immortal songs a couple times. she also has a youtube channel and twitch where she does mostly gaming at the moment but is gonna do more in the future! lots of it isnt subbed but on the youtube channel she vlogs and behind the scenes of mv stuff that HAVE been subbed kzbin.info she confirmed she is working on an album at the moments a couple days ago :) just a note but the company shes on with wheein she joined because her old one fkd her over basically. u can read up on that if you're interested but that was a mess again sorry this was way too long yet ive probably missed things haha

Yes all of the songs are her songs. I will go to you like the first snow was released as an ost for super popular korean drama goblin. The drama is about kim shin who is a goblin living eternally for hundreds of years and the story is somehow based on resurrection. I guess that's why she said I'm christian after mentioning kim shin.

I recommend Bigmama Killing Voice, which showed the best performance in the killing voice of all time. They are female vocal groups and are respected by many Kpop girl groups. They recently made a comeback on the killing voice. I'm sure you'll have a warm time like chicken soup.

Your reaction video to her solidifies that, even unbeknownst to you, you recognized her talent! The song that she sang, “I Will Go To You Like The First Snow” is an OST from the drama, “Goblin”, or “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God”, and is still popular 6 years later! Yeah sadly Ailee went MIA for couple years back then which I'm sure someone already explained about the issue in the comments. Ailee alongside with Baek Ji Young and Gummy are probably my fav soloist Korean OST singer.

also i wanted to add, since you're a moomoo too, solar actually did some guide versions for her songs in the beginning. Plus, I'm not really sure about the reason, but Solar had to replace Ailee on live stages for a collab song (kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5eae4yPZs6goJI ) (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYW1eJiei9SSgK8 this is the original). Sorry if the comment is a bit unrelated, but i thought you could enjoy listening to predebut solar and it came to my mind now dshshsh They also had a collab stage together and solar sang i will show you on a tv program too...
