One of Black Sabbath 's trademarks was so many transitions in each song. And they were so talented. Bill Ward is one of the best drummers in the business. So under rated.

Being a drummer, may I suggest that you react to War Pigs Live in Paris 1970. Bill Ward is an absolute beast on that song, the entire show really. He personifies power and precision

Early Sabbath definitely has blues/r&b influences. Hand of Doom has some really groovy bass that sounds like some modern hip hop.

Black Sabbath originally started off as a blues band called " EARTH " . They were very much into Hendrix , CREAM , Clapton etc.

Got to love Sabbath, the band that basically created metal music. It's kind of mad to think if Tony Iommi didn't have that accident in a sheet metal plant we wouldn't have that power chord heavy, big riff style of playing. Some great suggestions in the comments already but do add Children of the Grave to the list.

This is really Geezer Butler’s song. It’s so tight but riffy, almost that Jameson Motown vibe. At this point, they were freakin groovin w most of their songs

One of my favorite tracks from them. Saw them play it live in 2016 and about lost my shit. And they have some very bluesy music. Just a heavier blues that I enjoy.

For me, the most wonderful thing about Sabbath, each musician is a soloist during their instrumental sections. You need to hear it multiple times to get what each of them is doing, they don't stick to a riff, lick, groove or rhythm across the bars.

JB touched on something to think about but in a different context. The Beatles The comparison is appropriate because both bands were English and in the same era Similar to the Beatles, Sabbath was something like nobody has ever heard at the time they came out. The pop/rock space was so vanilla at the time- Both bands inspired just about everything that you know today where pop rock and most modern music except orchestral, country/western, or gospel. There is jazz influence plus blues, soul, and Other rock of the day- the muffled guitar between Page, Hendrix , Townsend, and Iommi is largely the body of work that defines the ubiquitous distorted guitars of today. The drumming, similarly- with the same bands- is What created the drums of today- Also many of those musicians worked to innovate the sound using hardware because it was all they had. Some made their own effects compared to now where are lost in an ocean of presets and plug ins Sometimes it takes framing it in the right context to enjoy not only the song itself but the larger picture of what it represents generationally to the music of today

Welcome back Charlie. I hope your tribe is doing well. PRAYERS4U. I LIKE SABBATH because they are a base group. Like flour rice chicken beef or fish. You start with them. So many have copied since the 60s. Great songs, transitions and Strong blues melody. They were different and experimental and emotional. They established their comfort chords so they have songs that sound the same like Deftones... It's their classic sound. JB... I want you to listen to a Black Sabbath cover... War Pigs! cover by/ Faith no More. I know you've heard L.A. Woman by the Doors Charlie ... I need to hear your opinion on Nine Inch Nails Downward Spiral

geezer butler slays on the bass on this track... well every track... but the sound on this one especially. Iommi, the guitarist, isnt too bad considering he had the tips of two fingers on his fret hand lopped off in a factory accident.

I really like this collaboration..having two different views is how it should be...you both feed of each other well. My opinion of Black Sabbath varies and I believe this song might be the wrong option for reaction, it's a great tune but...not their best. Sweet Leaf and also Snowblind are two absolute classics, I think if you already haven't done a reaction to either of them...then the choice is yours. Enjoy and you are welcome.

The song is them having a go at skinheads who would disrupt their gigs in pubs and local halls in the 1970s because they only wanted to hear reggae and what Sabbath were doing was too extreme for them musically, being that heavy metal didn't exist before them so it was challenging. Plus they looked like hippies with long hair and mustaches. Sabbath were working class lads from a rough city, so they were ready to defend themselves, and calling them fairies like "wot?"

The guys in the band were definitely influenced by not only the Blues, but also R&B and Soul growing up in Birmingham. A lot of their songs have an underlying funkiness to it. This album in particular has some straight up crunchy slabs of funky gunk. Check out the song suite of Behind the Wall of Sleep into NIB. You will not be disappointed.
