Just so you know, this isn't actually footage of them playing this recording. This is the studio version of the song and someone cobbled some footage of a live performance together sort of matching the recording. . . . sort of. Listen to this song from the 'Made in Japan' live album for a true live version. Check out Child in Time, Lazy, and Space Truckin' from the same Made in Japan album. You will not be disappointed.

Well said, there are so many "cobbled together" videos on YT pretending to be live performances. That said, this is still a cracking track.

Make sure you check out the guitarist's (Ritchie Blackmore) next band called Rainbow. The lead singer was Ronnie James Dio and they made some awesome songs, "Stargazer" being their best and a masterpiece. However dig deep into Deep Purple, tons of great songs. "Smoke on the Water", "Lazy", "Space Trukin", "Burn" and a bunch more.

This was definitely influential to Eddie during their club days before getting signed. The story is Eddie went up to Richie Blackmore’s (Deep Purple’s guitarist) table at The Rainbow Bar in Los Angeles and Richie was sitting there with John Bonham, drummer from Led Zeppelin. At the time, Van Halen were just signed (1977) and of course, no one really knew who they were yet. Eddie approached them both to say what say what big influences they both were, and the story is, they both blew off Eddie and told him to get lost. Of course VH1 then dropped and the rest was history. A few years later, in a guitar magazine, Blackmore had nice words to say about VH’s playing, but not before trashing David Lee Roth’s vocals. Not sure if he ever realized that was the same kid he blew off a few years earlier. Thanks Bro!

Great reaction! You have touched on a couple Pink Floyd, a Led Zeppelin, and now are blown away by Deep Purple. You might be ready to dive into progressive rock. Try Genesis "Firth of Fifth," Yes "Roundabout," Emerson, Lake and Palmer "Trilogy" and more Floyd and Zeppelin. Your life may change after hearing these. Your jaw will need some support, though. Enjoy!

Deep Purple's MACHINE HEAD is a wicked, must have album, even now, some 50 years later. I was godsmacked when I heard this album as a young teenager back in the mid 70s. Organ playing like I've never heard before in my life, and Ritchie Blackmoor, the guitar player, was so awesome that Fender guitars issued a signature series limited edition white Ritchie Blackmoor Stratocaster with his signature heavily scalloped fretboard. LAZY is a great song as well.

Some people say that KZbinrs have been hunted down by metal heads for the atrocity of pausing during a Solo. Just putting you wide. 3 UK Bands were known as the Unholy Trinity. Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. You need all 3 in your life, and judging by this reaction you will love it. No Solo pausing, it's practically illegal. (Black Sabbath War Pigs. 1969 anti war song sadly still relevant. Trust me'n'shit)

Great reaction!!❤❤❤ The legendary Richie Blackmore - one of the most under rated guitar players ever. I think his "Highway Star" solo is the first ever example of shredding. I'd like to suggest another banger for you to react to ~ "Rock & Roll Machine" by Triumph (studio version please) 🔥🎸🔥🎸🔥🎸🔥 Highway Star and Rock & Roll Machine are songs number one & two on my Road Trip playlist 😁

You must be American (no offence intended), if you think Ritchie - note the spelling, the "t" needs to be in there - is "underrated". Here in Europe, in South America, in Japan, in Australia, you name it, he is one of THE most famous guitar players ever, definitely making the Top 5 of all time. And in my native Sweden, there is arguably no guitar player ever, Hendrix included, that has influenced more bands and musicians. So, he's not underrated: on the contrary, he's about as famous and celebrated as it's possible for a musician to be.
@foxchasejrt1 Жыл бұрын
@@erikthompson619 Hey Erik - thanks for the perspective. In America😏, he's absent from nearly every Top 5 list - which is huge tragedy. Delighted to know that Ritchie😊 is recognized for his talent, ability and influence. He's an enormously important guitarist imo and one of my personal favs. I believe Ritchie is a far more accomplished guitarist than Hendrix, whom I feel often over rated. Although measuring the two is much like comparing apples and oranges imo as their styles and techniques are so very different.

Do you know why the film makers spliced in shots of Ritchie Blackmore wearing a Pilgrim outfit? Because the idiot cameraman from the first recording almost totally ignored Ritchie during his solo and kept the camera centered on the lead singer, even though Ian Gillan, the singer was for the most part just standing there. It was the worst camera work ever, it's obvious the cameraman was not familiar with the song and was incompetent. They also have the minus pilgrim video out there on the web if you want to view this video in the terrible original sans Blackmore recording.
