Yes, Lay is indeed an actor. He has done a number of dramas and films in China. And Lit is one part of an intricate storyline he put together very intentional like a Chinese historical drama. It's partly an answer to his critics (and yes, he is that huge in China, doing his own production and running his own company) and he chose the Lotus deliberately. Not only does it grow from the mud, but it grows with delicate beautiful colours and scents so it is a very old image in Buddhism in other traditions of remaining untouched by the mud, coming from it but transcending it. His newer song Flying Asparas is part of the same storyline I believe. ''Hello' was the song Chen released right before he enlisted. (Suho, D.O., Chanyeol, Baekhyun etc all released music just before leaving for their enlistment.) It is deliberately poignant and bittersweet. Chen is one of the best vocalists of his generation and this song just shows the tip of the iceberg It is no coincidence that Suho's song is called 'Let's Love'. He leads EXO in their chant before every performance "We are one. Let's Love!" It's so fun to watch people under the 'Kai Effect' :D

The story in Lay's "Lit" MV, he said, is based on his favorite Chinese historical figure. In the MV he is portraying a Chinese general who has been trapped by the Han soldiers while trying to rescue his wife. The general is a real historical figure named Xiang Yu, who fought in the battle of Gaixia. In the beginning of the MV you hear a Peking opera singer performing “The Song of Gaixia” (A traditional Chinese Opera song) which is a song that Xiang Yu composed for his wife, Lady Yu, who eventually took her own life. (Fun fact: In Lay's song "Jade" which is a song also on this album, the story is supposed to be about Lady Yu and Xiang Yu's love story.) Lay is an ambassador for China, so one of his goals is to share Chinese culture with the world. One way he is doing this is by creating his own style of music which he has labeled M-pop. M-Pop stands for Mixed-pop, which means he mixes traditional Chinese elements and sounds with mainstream pop and hip-hop beats and styles -- combining old school Chinese culture with new modern hip-hop and contemporary beats and styles. As he says in "Lit," "I am the King ... bringing China to the world." And that's pretty much a fact: He has king-maker status in the music and entertainment industry and he has a lot of international influence which allows him to bring Chinese culture to the world. He is only speaking Mandarin and English in this song. Everything about this song and MV is a poetic, cinematic masterpiece. For example, the word Lotus in Chinese sounds a little like Lit in English. (Another play on words, just like the Chinese pronunciation of Jade sounds like Yu, or you in English, which Lay cleverly used in his song "Jade." Get it? Jade = Yu and Jade = you.) Lay used lotus (Lit) as a metaphor for no matter how hard people try to bring him down, he will stand strong and survive through anything the world throws at him, like a lotus flower. The Lotus often represents purity. The Lotus is special because it grows in the mud, but out of the most dirty and unforgiving conditions, blooms one of the most beautiful flowers. The Lotus is a famous symbol in Chinese culture and it often represents how something good and pure can grow and triumph despite what you would think are harsh conditions. Lay has said that the idea for "Lit" comes from the fact that his haters have been calling him "White Lotus," which refers to someone who acts innocent, and uses it for his gain and plays the victim all the time. So when he wrote the song he took that negativity and embraced it and turned it into something positive. So, in other words, he is saying: "You thought you could bring me down, but you are wrong. I am not a fake white lotus, but I am a true lotus who is LIT. I am more powerful than you know and I will rise above all your negativity and show you how I grow even stronger and more beautiful no matter how much mud and dirt I have to go through," etc. The dragon is a very powerful symbol in Chinese culture, and it is even said that if you are Chinese you are a descendant of the dragon. Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize vitality, strength and good luck. In one interview I read, Lay also talked about how he has two dragons inside him -- a good dragon and a bad dragon. He said he always chooses to listen to the good dragon. The good dragon is the one who is protecting him and helping him through all his hardships and difficult times. So the main theme of "Lit" is about fighting his inner self and learning to ignore and overcome the people who are trying to knock him down. As you have discovered, Lay is is a singer, rapper, songwriter, composer, producer actor, director, editor, dancer, designer, etc. -- genius -- and with every new release of his, he just one ups himself. And "Lit" is a prime example of that. As you discovered, ff you study the credits at the end of this video, you see that this MV was produced by Zhangyixing Studios, which is named after Lay (Zhang Yixing is Lay's real name, Lay is a stage name given to him by SM Entertainment) -- he owns the studio. So, the credits show, Lay has his hand in almost every aspect of this production. It's his name you will see dozens of times in the credits. He is the one that wrote and composed the song, he even produced the beat himself. Fun fact: Peaches, and peach trees in particular, symbolize immortality in Korean culture and the modern take on traditional Korean clothing that Kai wears in the MV seems to symbolize that he is an immortal being that plans to continue his journey for many more years with no plans of stopping. I have also heard that images with everything to do with this MV and comeback content reference things to do with traditional Korean folktales, so Koreans and those that know Korean culture would understand some of the references and stories he is referring to. I'm also fairly certain that there are also things in these videos that can be connected to EXO's storyline, however I haven't had enough time to really think about it to make any solid connections yet. The title of this song and album is stylized as "Peaches 2" because this is Kai's second album. Remember how SHINee's "Don't Call Me" has a 7 as the apostrophe in don't because their Don't Call Me album is their 7 full length album? I guess it's SM's new style, they put the album number in the title of the album. Peaches is a mini album with 6 tacks. Fun facts: Suho's song "Let's Love" is named after the catchphrase that he coined as a member of EXO. What you will hear the members of EXO say at the end of speeches and in concert, etc. is "We are one, let's love," which is referring to the fact that when they were split up into their sub-units, EXO-K (Korean) and EXO-M (Mandarin), they were still all one group and they are one with their fans. Plus, because they are a group that is designed to bridge the divide between cultures, Suho, as the leader of EXO, wanted to remind everyone that no matter what, we should remember to love one another, so he started reminding everyone to "Let's Love" and to put all our differences behind us. Plus, if you notice, in the MV for "Let's Love" there is a lot of water and water references, which is because all of the EXO members' debut solo songs have something to do with each members superpowers. For Let's Love - the phrase itself is one that Suho (as the leader) coined pretty early on in their career, it's like a chant they always say to EXO-Ls, so it has meaning for the members and fandom The song is supposed to be about EXO-Ls, and if you look at it through that lens, the MV could be interpreted as Junmyeon's (his real name) life before he became EXO's Suho, unstable and uncertain, and how his life became beautiful and he gained stability through the journey to debut and meeting EXO-Ls Also the ending where there's a portrait of him is a nod to the title of the album the song comes from - Self Portrait Hope that made sense lol I'm really glad you're getting into EXO :) 🤍

Chen's song 'Hello' is heartbreaking for exols. It was released after news broke out that he was engaged and expecting a baby for which he received a lot of hate from the public and even "fans". This song depicts how he felt during that painful time, he wanted to reach out to us and every time he tried he was not able to because it was so difficult for him. By the time he is able to say hello to us, he has to also say goodbye because he was enlisting in the army. In the end, he hopes we are okay - not just the fans who stayed but those who left him. This song wasn't to show off his talents as a singer because he is one of the best vocalists in kpop nor was it to become a hit and sell well, but he sang it anyway just to get across his message to us.

Sort story about Hello MV: He announced his marriage and was expecting a daughter. Because of that a lot of people asked him to leave EXO and he got so many hate speech (it's so immature) Then after months, he came out with this single to say Hello to the fans (telling his feeling during that time), but at the end of song, the lyrics seemed ambiguous. And yeah, after the song released, he announced his military service. So this song means hello and goodbye. So as you can see, the black and white, the broken glass are flying, then he stepped on the fixing floor then the scene becomes coloured, that's the journey that he faced it that time.

You will definitely have to check out more Lay solos. His latest solo called Flying Apsaras is absolutely astonishing. There is a visualiser to the song but sadly no MV. He was not content with the how the MV came out, but watching the visualiser would leave u wondering how he could not be as it really came for the LIT MV. However there is a dance practice for the song, I recommend that paired with the visualiser.

Yeah, you are spot on with Chen's Hello. It is bittersweet, because it was the first we had seen Chen in almost a year, since the news of his marriage and baby came out and he went into hiding. But then it also turned out to be his goodbye to EXO-L's too, as he announced he was enlisting soon after. This song is a message to EXO-L's showing us that he was scared to tell everyone about his news, and he didn't know how to express it, without it sounding empty. And yeah, you could say that his life was basically turned upside down. His career was unstable, he was going to be a new dad, his enlistment was approaching, he was getting extreme amounts of hate and threats. 2020 was a year of great joy and great sorrow for Chen, in my opinion.

Lit has similar pronunciation as lotus flower in Chinese, and it describes a Chinese religious belief of the duality of life and death. In lit mv, general Xiang Yu (in Peking opera costume) is the past life and Lay in modern clothes is the present life. Dragon is the spirit and soul, and the lotus flower and witch help pass along the spirit. Another meaning of Lotus flower is the symbol of growth and purity because it grows and blossoms out of mud. Some people also use it to describe someone who is pure and innocent in appearance but maybe opposite inside. Lay’s antis used to call him white lotus because they don’t believe such a huge star could be so honest, humble, hard working and respectful to others. They also mock at his dream of bringing Chinese music to the world, saying that all of his hard work and effort will go in vain. Actually, Lay's latest release "Flying Apsaras" could be sequal to Lit , in terms of the grandness visuals of the MV, with a dragon and traditional Chinese elements. Unfortunately, Lay didn't feel satisfied with the MV's end result , so he only release 40seconds of it as a Visualiser. But there is a dance practice. In Lit, you saw Lay's fierce side, a rapper and a krumper. Please checkout his other works, you'll see different sides of him and his music (he usually wrote , arranged and produced his own music). Suho's vocal is underrated. Because EXO has some powerful vocalist , his vocal often overlooked.

So Lay's MV was made in China, Lay paid for the MV on his own too (but the profits for his solo stuff was split with SM...yeah). And the song, is about how people called him Lian (lotus) which is an insult, meaning he is faking innocence for the camera and fans. Here Lay turns that on his Haters (the ppl you see running in to stab and fight him) saying that Lotus grows up from the mud, like he did (came from nothing) and he is the Lian (Lit). Lay is huge in China... He has more than 30 endorsements and is a spokesperson for many luxury brands... He is crazy successful as an artist with his albums making records left and right... Yes he is an actor too... (there's hardly anything he can't do, he just waits for a new challenge) Chen is an amazing singer and a lyricist who writes very heartfelt songs... Hello is not written by him but its based on what he wanted to tell his fans himself... So the song is his letter. 2020 was very happy personal year for him but a difficult professional one. Suho is the leader of EXO, he titled the song Let's Love to commemorate their slogan(let's love or Saranghaja in Korean) ,which he himself has made. The song is about how he was being cautious with the love for his fans and how they have made his life better.. He has Co written each song on the album just to tell his story and for fans... Each song somehow related to what he has said or wants yo tell the fans. Kai is a great artist.. He has always strived to make statements through his fashion about breaking the stereotypes... And he shows it the best that what he does wear is not related to masculinity...

Lay is great and he is actually has right to say he is a king in music industry. when he couldn't promote with exo he began doing all by himself in China. he was lost. and now he is Producer, singer, songwriter, actor with awards and CEO of his own company, he has his own label. i hope all exo-l's are proud of him and what he is doing. i've known exo and their music from the very beginning, but Lay opened for me a whole new world. hope he will find time, opportunity and Interest in promoting with exo once again i love Lay/Mr Zhang Yixing/ biggest inspiration for music, production, dance and live philosophy/ he is just great/ especially great because of all his imperfection/ love and respect him and all of his music and production/ soooo good 😭🥺 the best for me///

I havent watch the full vid this time but the way you analyze Hello by Chen shows that you are a great reader. Heres the thing, Chen was married in early 2020 and have his first baby, after that a lot of people hate him and want him to leave the group "which is stupid", because this man just chose to be happy and that was what normal people do. After that he didn't show up until SM announced Chen are going to have a Digital Single which is "Hello". We all know that he is trying to reach us to talk to the fans, this songs shows how it become so hard for himself too. Chen is a very kind person and it hurts me when I saw people hating him just bacause he chose to be happy.

I've seen your Taemin/SHINee journey, and now I will sit back once again as you discover Lay/Kai/Exo. Fun fact: while he was a trainee, Lay was a backup dancer for SHINee's concert tour. And now you see how far he's come along. He's the definition of hard-work and talent. I kid you not he has songs which he had worked on all by himself with no outside influence what so ever. The guy even makes his own beats! He went on a Chinese competition type show where he had to make 9 songs which he later released in his producer album.
