The first time I heard bloodhail. I stopped and listened. The spine chills and chicken skins. I realized I was changing as a person. That feeling is you changing. That song is designed to urge you to change. It has a fucking magic that all the guitarist selling their souls to all the devils can't touch. It's amazing. Also, devastating. I'll never be able to forget the song but I'll never be able to experience the change brought on by the song. One day, HANL little mainstream exposure will fade but there will always be a group of kids stumbling on this album. Other kids showing the ones they think will enjoy it. Another generation changing. This album is special. I'm glad I found this video

The loud distortion at the end of Earthmover isn't interference, it's actually Tim Macuga throwing his bass guitar on the floor from becoming so overwhelmed with the emotions of the song. (great video by the way)

I actually asked Dan about that a few years ago. Turns out he was just frustrated with the track because normally they would record the bass first, but they recorded it last for Earthmover and kept fucking it up, and apparently he was really hungry.

they lost the masters of this album so what you're listening to is literally a 128kbps backup of the whole thing.

@strawberrywigz1658 3 жыл бұрын
wait what? do explain. also what are the masters?
@k1d666
@k1d666 3 жыл бұрын
@@strawberrywigz1658 the master files are the WAV format songs that were lost in a drive crash, WAV are essentially the pure recording with zero compression that get converted to lossy formats like MP3 320/v0 due to how much smaller those files are while not sacrificing a ton in audio fidelity, with these 128kbps files Dan didn't have the luxury of doing so. i would compare it to something like a JPG image with a lot of artifacts as a result of it being compressed so many times, Deathconsciousness is the sonic representation of an old JPG image.

Yeah this is definitely one of those albums that when you're in the right mood or have the right frame of reference it hits entirely different. The first time I heard this album I was in a very dark place and listening to "I Don't Love" and "Earthmover" changed my life. It's not for everyone, but if it can penetrate the wall we put around our emotions it can be an incredibly affecting listen.

Funny thing is, I love this album and the cover, the painting is one of my favourites. This summer I went to a museum and lo and behold, there it was, the ORIGINAL painting, on the wall for me to admire. I can't say how lucky I am that such a painting is in the national art museum in my country (Belgium). Was really funny when I saw it and read that it was the actual painting. So now it's my phone background 😎

hello Tony! I met your channel recently and its content is very interesting! I am a fan of Brazil and I would like to recommend a Brazilian band that I like a lot. It is called "O Terno" which would be "The Suit" in the translation. is a band that mixes rock from the 60s with mpb (Brazilian popular music). I think you'll enjoy it. the tracks "Não Espero Mais" (i don't wait it anymore) and 66 represent that a lot. on his most recent record he has a more bossa nova vibe. It's interessing too!Anyway, here's my suggestion! hugs tony!

The mixing problems is because the album was lost when their hard drive went to shit, all they had after that was low quality backups. It still sounds so fucking good to my ears but maybe that's because it just fits my personality. Their second album The Unnatural World has proper mixing and production, and still sounds depressing and deep as hell. Give it a listen!
