This was an international amateur vocal competition held in Mexico in 1970. At this time Jose Jose was only singing in bars. Jose Jose was trained in opera vocal technique by his father as a kid. He was asked to represent México for this event. While doing his performance the crowd is throwing roses at him. You can clearly see that. That used to be a indicator for the judges to know that the crowd loves the performer. However, when it came down to choose a winner, Germany won and the crowd (mostly Mexican) couldn’t believe it because clearly Jose was the better performer. Jose Jose won 3rd place. But this performance was the launch of his career and many record labels wanted to offer him contracts. This was the birth of Jose Jose’s musical legacy.

He’s using a breathing technique where you at the end of the sung phrase you prepare for a breathe and the breathe is taken from the nose and mouth simultaneously very quickly and efficiently. Here's a little bit of history about that song. He was 19 yrs. Old and was barely starting his career. Son of an Opera singer (dad) and classic piano player (mom). This was an event organized for Latin American countries in which each country sent they're best singers to compete. This event was Farley new I believe it was the 2nd or 3rd year that they had it going on. The song has the most meaning in the lyrics, if you understand the lyrics then you'll know of the perfect execution of his performance, he basically gets into the role of what he's saying, that's why the change in moods, speed, vibratos, long notes etc. His technique is impecable as well as his performance. The song "The Sad One" talks about somebody who has lost a very loved person. Most of the time people would associate it with a painful breakup. However, the reality is that the author of the song, wrote it a few days after his mom passed away and he is expressing the unbelievable pain he's going through, and he doesn't know what to do with such pain, and everyone criticizes him because he's always talking about that person, but what they don't know is that him expressing his love for that person is the only thing that keeps him alive and he has learned to get by and survive. (Those are some of the lyrics of the song) I suggest you to see the song with the translation. The author had two animated to give this song to perform it. Him and another lady, luckily he made the right choice, and even though Jose Jose got only the third place in that competition he started an amazing career. Everyone though they robbed him of the first place. Another fact is that this was the first time this song was ever performed, ge sang it first and then later on they recorded it and made it into a vinyl. In Latin America a lot of people get two names, Jose Jose is his name and he used the second José to honor his father so he adopted it as his second name.
