Its awesome that we can watch a modern metal fan enjoy a current metal band. I had the pleasure of watching the Big Four, Judas Priest, Testament, Pantera and many more, but I am all about Lovebites carrying the banner forward for a new generation of metal fans. Five women in heels and dresses crushing it and laying down some heavy riffs with a smile. These classy women of Japan slay and still manage to pay respect to all the bands that went before. Miyako and Midori are in my discussion for best twin lead guitar players ever. Already excited about their next album, and they just dropped this one.🤘🤘🤘

@@hellobrewtiful They are mainly power metal to most fans, but the wolfpack(fans of Lovebites)also know they mix in some thrash and speed metal. I recommend Shadowmaker live from Tokyo next. It is power metal done right(imo of course) with thrash and soaring lyrics. Enjoy your music journey.

Well, it seems they have a new fan. 😊 Since the motto of this show was "Knockin' at Heaven's Gate", I think the pillars represent heaven's gate? The motto was like that because this is their "resurrection" after a hiatus of two years, their very first concert after two years. During that hiatus, they got Fami on bass (former bassist Miho having left in 2021), and Asami (singer) and Miyako (black-haired guitarist) got married (not to each other) and had a baby girl each. The other names are Midori (blonde guitarist, also competes in bodybuilding competitions, two silver medals) and Haruna (the drummer, the shortest in the band at 4'9'', "Little Big Engine").

Welcome to LOVEBITES 🤘🏼🐺🔥 The band is around since 2016 and released their first EP and album in 2017. At this point they have 4 albums, some Singles/EPs and also a bunch of live DVD/Blu-ray releases. LOVEBITES have already toured in Europe back in 2018/2019, including the major metal festivals as Wacken, Download, Bloodstock, Graspop. Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they waited out the pandemic and searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. They did their first live performances in more than two years in summer of 2023, with their new bassist Fami. Their very first show was commemorated on the DVD “Knocking on Heaven’s Gate”. They have posted four performances from that DVD-“”Hammer of Wrath”, “Judgement Day”, “Nameless Warrior” and “Liar”. All of them are barn-burners, as you may have figured out from seeing "Namelsss Warrior". Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing. In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." LOVEBITES are one of the most musically talented (arguably THE most musically talented) metal group in the world. They have about 60 original songs in their catalogue, none of which are bad, and some of which are legitimate masterpieces. Why this band isn't world famous (yet) is beyond me. Welcomed to the mind-blowing world of Lovebites and thanks for spreading the word because they deserve more recognition. These women are extremely talented, skillful and versatile exceptional musicians. Their main influences are Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Judas Priest, Dragonforce, Megadeth, Deep Purple, Angra, Helloween, Yngwie Malmsteen, Pantera, and even Gary Moore, but they have been developing their unique style. Their live performances are outstanding. Those twin lead guitar solos by Midori and Miyako are already legendary, in just six years. Asami used to sing R&B, soul and jazz before she joined Lovebites. Miyako is also a concert level classical pianist, trained since she was 3 years old. Miho (ex bassist and founder of the band) said in an interview that they wanted to play as heavy as men but keeping their femininity. Many of their songs have an uplifting and positive message. Some people say that they’re redefining metal. My next recommendations are “Hammer of wrath”, “Judgement day” (same concert), Set the world on fire” and for a different side of them “Edge of the world”, “Empty daydream” (all live). Believe me when I say that these women are phenomenal and you’ve just scratched the tip of the iceberg. Some people say that rock is not dead, it just moved to Japan.

Well, this is a typical Lovebites Live performance. In fact, this song is great but not in their top 10 IMHO, thats how insanely talented these musicians are. Check out Set the World on Fire, Swan Song with Chopin piano intro or Frozen Serenade all live to experience the insane talent in this band. Live this band is the very definition of the relentless pursuit of perfection, and this pace goes down a little and even goes up during their near 2 hour set. Welcome to the LB rabbit hole. Conquer Divide were the only all female fronted band I listened too until these amazing people introduced to great ones! It’s not as popular in the states I don’t think compared to other places. However the talent is on another level!

All songs composed/performed by Lovebites have MELODY. If your song whether metal, rock, pop, trance, disco, etc. has no melody then it is not music, it is just a crap of sound or noise pollution. I define MELODY = Energy Vibrating at different Harmonics of Frequency. That is also the definition of the Physical Universe. Without Harmonics of Frequency, the physical Universe will cease to exist and will become potential energy again.

About their "look", when they were touring Europe with Dragonforce, a French mag asked Asami (singer) about it. Asami said, "We're girls, we don't want to dress like boys. Also, we are all small and the white and gold makes it easier to see us on stage." And they ARE small, Haruna (drums) is only 4'9" and the tallest members Miyako (dark haired guitarist) and Fami (bass) are 5'2". The band was founded by Haruna and Miho (former bassist) who were both in a previous band called Destrose. Lovebites is named for a Halestorm song called, Lovebites (and so do I). Miho left in early 2022 (amicably) when her father passed away and she took some time off. Not wanting to make the rest of the band wait for her, she left. The band then had a worldwide audition for a new bassist and found Fami, who is an AMAZING bass player. She was a R&B singer. She has studied R&B in the US then went back to Japan, she has done some back vocals for other groups and did some lounge singing before joining Lovebites. She was in a couple other bands before joining Lovebites. During Covid she started working-out in a gym and fell in love with it and is now a competitive bodybuilder/fitness model on her down time. Miyako has been trained in classical piano since she was 3. She taught herself how to play the guitar in high school. She is actually a bubbly person but Midori convinced her to act stoic on stage. If you follow her on Twitter you will learn that she loves fishing and last month she and Mayu (singer of Nemophila, which I know you like) went night fishing for sea bass. And during Civid, she and Midori would have daily zoom calls so they could still practice together. She is also married (as are Haruna and Asami) and she gave birth to her second child last year (in concert vids from 2022, if she is wearing flats and not heals that means she is pregnant on stage). First of all - welcome to Lovebites. I am glad you enjoyed this song. But in all honesty, as a huge Lovebites fan, Nameless Warrior sits way down on the list of Lovebites songs for most fans. They easily have 20 songs better and far more impressive than this one. Seriously, if you thought this song was amazing wait until you see them play songs like "Judgement Day", "The Hammer of Wrath" or several others that will be recommended to you in the comments.

@@hellobrewtiful Don't get me wrong, Nameless Warrior is a great song. It showcases how fast they can play in harmony, and Asami has some great vocals in it. But the structure of the song is kind of long and static. It is pure power metal. Lovebites is a multi-genre metal band. They have thrash songs that sound like something Metallica, Testament or Slayer would play. They have songs that sound like something Iron Maiden or Helloween would play. They also have a softer/slower side and have songs that sound like something Dream Theater or Rush would play, incorporating the piano. Miyako, the black haired guitarist can shred the piano as well as she can shred the guitar. They really are an amazing band. They combine all of these styles into their own sound. Every member has elite level skill on their instruments - bass, drum, guitars, piano, and vocals. They are nice young ladies with charming personalities - no drugs or offensive behavior, etc and they look and dress great too without coming across as appearing too provocative. I've never been so captivated by a band until I first discovered Lovebites two and a half years ago.

This list is just an overview/checklist for you to get an impression, what songs there are in general. I've marked "Nameless Warrior" with a star (*). The open secret is, that you could take any song (really ANY!), and you won't be disappointed. All the songs are at least fantastic, many of them masterpieces. Sounds like an exaggeration, but it's still true. They are just starting through after the pandemic and a 2 year hiatus (Covid-19 and the loss of their first bassist) as how I call it LOVEBITES 2.0 with the new lineup. We (the Wolfpack) expect them to do a world tour in 2024, currently two festivals are committed for June (Spain) and September 2024 (Atlanta, USA). A good time to start an exploration. Just my personal opinion - its not the song introducing Lovebites in their normal (fill) capacity. Actually most of their songs are jaw dropping and mindblowing. But not Nameless Warrior which is one of the few simple songs.

I have really tried with this band and the musicianship is top notch....BUT I can not get past the lead singers voice and the really heavy vibrato, I know that it is very stylistic in Japan but it doesn't work for me.....and I really wanted to like them. oh well...I still have Band Maid and Nemophila.
