I have some somewhat nostalgic memories associated with Tally Hall since they kinda came in a box pack with Lemon Demon and Will Wood to other post mid to late 2010s animation kids like me. Weird niche of kids and interests, but trust me, it was the case for more kids than you’d think. Saying ‘kid’ for the lack of a better word here because there were a lot adults ofc, but it was mostly people in middle or high school. I’ll listen to Banana Man or & from time to time (hell, I actually still like that one edit of The Mind Electric, same for the original. Cannibal too! Turn The Lights off I still adore ofc) but they’re not as replay-able as they used to be. I’m in a weird situation with them where I don’t really hate or dislike them because of my psuedo-nostalgia but I also don’t really care for the band members or music because I just… evolved I guess? Necessary Cringe that all kids need to survive and be humbled I guess lmfao

I’m not trying to imply that criticism against tally hall is invalid, but I feel like often Brad hates songs just because he doesn’t understand the lyrics immediately. That’s why Cannibal was his favorite initially, but upon later listens he realized there wasn’t much more to uncover. Too often Brad just reads the lyrics and scoffs without explaining why they suck.
@BradTasteInMusicOfficial

The sound of the songs is so unbelievably boring, that trying to make sense of these overwritten contrived lyrics feels like more of a chore, and less of a way to enjoy the music more. When I figure out the lines and my first instinct is cringing too, that stops me from continuing with the decoding part.

Personal opinions is one thing, all art is subjective, but check out all the people who are smugly proud their opinions align with Brad's, to the point of bradgging about "growing up" by changing their tastes to match his. Like, congratulations on not having an original thought in your head? Congratulations on being a part of an exclusive club? What are you bradgging about exactly? If it's "being better than the plebeians who dare to still like what I no longer do", than congratulations on being that insecure about your age and your taste I guess. Wanting to superficially seem bradult is a sign of immaturity, as that is a reason most kids want to do bradult stuff, but go off I guess.

My opinion on music doesn't really align with Brad's, but I still watch his videos, because it's interesting to see others opinion. I used to be a big Billy Joel fan, I used to listen to his music all the time, but then I discovered other artists who do what he does way better. I discovered better artists through what critics had to say. I don't claim that I 'grew up', I just say I refined my tastes.

Here is my one thought with the & song. It overall is not a bad songwriting idea in concept. However they fail to pull it off. honestly, I had a hard time dealing with your MMMM review, since I'd kinda been obsessing about tally hall for like three months and I literally did not listen to any other music. But your content is really growing on me! I've gotten a lot better at not taking what I like too seriously, and not taking other people's opinions too seriously. I still enjoy tally hall a whole bunch, but my view on them has changed significantly- I recognise its flaws, especially within the members themselves, and I'm a lot more open to trying new music. So, uh... thanks?

I listened this band quite a lot when i was about 14, and today I kinda cringe thinking about that. I’ve been waiting for you to react to this album though! Not because I think it’s very good (I remember this being about the same as their first but with not as low lows), but because your reaction to their first was so great! Will be fun to se how well my memory holds up! Edit: Wow I realize now I didn’t remember this album at al. Kinda glad you like Hymn of a scarecrow though as I think that’s the only song that still holds up for me today. And yeah you described 14 year old me perfectly at 41:57 lol

I've found a lot of the bands and artists I used to love just don't sound that great anymore. I'm thankful for my newfound appreciation for music, but I feel as though I don't know where to go to find good music now.
