I commented a few weeks ago, I have an update, after going to multiple hockey stores and getting scanned each time I learned that the scanners are not consistent and I ended up with a Bauer 6.5 fit three. And in the CCM machine 6.5 regular width but high volume. I tried the xf pros and the shadows so far I’ve decided to go with the xf pros I like the tongue a little better they feel nice definitely a little funky but also I have a high arch too and u mentioned the CCM not being great for that I didn’t notice a huge issues with it but I use super feet so that might help. I still am gonna try on the shadows once more but most stores didn’t have my size.

Thanks for the review and insight. How do these compare to the Hyperlite 2? Your review on the Hyperlite 2 convinced me to switch from CCM FT6 Pro, and I love the Hyperlite (surprisingly). I recently started having lace bite on my Hyperlite 2 after a few months, and seems like it could be due the soft boot and flex causing pressure on the front ankle. I had the same issue with custom True skates, since the boot broke down after 6-8 months. Thanks for all your insight! Best of luck on your new gig! Cheers.
@mongillohockey
@mongillohockey 4 ай бұрын
@@cjmixer99 First off I appreciate the best regards! Okay, so I know that the Hyperlite 2 has less volume than the Jetspeeds but it’s a similar design. There’s two things that can impact lace bite. The thickness of your insoles and the types of socks you’re wearing. If you’re just wearing tube socks that’s actually an issue. If you have aftermarket insoles like yellow superfeet, that’ll all cause lace bite. I recommend trying the stock insoles with thin compression socks. If you’re already doing that, purchase gel Bunga pads from Amazon. If that still doesn’t work, you might need to consider selling them and looking at a boot with more volume like the Bauer Shadow or CCM XF Pro. It’s not worth an injury.
@cjmixer99
@cjmixer99 4 ай бұрын
@@mongillohockey - Thanks for that insight! Yeah, I tried the gel pads with my custom True skates and didn’t alleviate the pain. I actually use regular tube socks, and recently changed the insole to the new Bauer Aetrex and they’ve been good. It was only until recently I started getting lace bite on my Hyperlite 2, and they’ve been great for the past few months. I’ll go into my shop and try on the Shadow. I’ve just been surprised that my skates only seem to last 6-10 months before they break down. I skate about 3x / week in casual pickup, not high level or serious play. I’m assuming it’s just the downside of the higher performance gear, that seem to break easier
@mongillohockey
@mongillohockey 4 ай бұрын
@@cjmixer99 That’s about right. I typically get about 2 years out of skates playing rec hockey and CCM skates typically last the longest, which is irrelevant if they don’t fit properly. I’ve been pretty happy with my Shadows and the tongues are great but require longer to break in. Let me know what you end up doing.

@@mckentycarpentry4665 If you can get your foot scanned on a Bauer machine that’d be ideal. No skates fit like the old D or EE widths anymore. A fit 1 is narrow, fit 2 is regular and fit 3 is wide and high volume.

Bauer's tuuk lightspeed edge bends to easy while CCM's xs holders last longer, though their boots get indented by their holders. I find Bauer's boots last longer than CCM but overall for me CCM has the best skating experience coming from FT6 pro's. But FT6's go soft faster than ASV PRO. I hope ill get to try these shadows out and there new holders but if those bend then ill switch'em out for the xs holders and see if the 2 skates compined will last longer. Sick review!

Do the shadows/supreme skates have a higher instep over the Hyperlite2/vapor skates?
@mongillohockey
@mongillohockey Ай бұрын
@@cameronmi9937 Hi there, I can only speak to the Hyperlite 1, Shadows and XF Tacks skates. The XF has the most instep volume of any skate on the market, followed by the FT6 pros, then the Shadows and then the Hyperlite 1. I’ve heard the Hyperlite 2 skates have less overall volume the the first gen but I can’t confirm that. The bottom line is that if you really need volume, you need to go CCM. If you absolutely hate CCM, go with the Shadows. I personally own the Shadows and now the XFs (not the XF pro-the one down from the top) and the XF is significantly more comfortable for my foot than the Shadows, but I might skate a little faster in the shadows. Do you want speed and pain or comfort and agility without great speed? lol. That’s at least the case for my feet.
@cameronmi9937
@cameronmi9937 Ай бұрын
@ thank you I think I’m gonna go try the xf pros and the shadows. I’ve had both generations of hyperlites. And even gone up half a size. And I suffer from pain on the outside of my feet and lace bite on my instep. I’ve tried everything u can imagine to help it and nothing helps I think I just need to try a different skate model. I like the performance of the Bauers, I haven’t been in ccm in a while. But I’m open to anything.
@mongillohockey
@mongillohockey Ай бұрын
@ Yes, I’m in a similar boat. I’d say to try the FT6 pro as those are very nice, but you’ll get more room out of an XF skate. One thing to note. I’m typically the guy who only buys top of the line skates. The XF skates were so good that I didn’t bother buying the XF pros. The material is the same. The only two differences between the XF and XF pro is stiffness and steel. With the XF pro you get a stiffer boot and you get Step Steel black steel. That said, the XF is still stiffer than the FT6 Pro and anything from Bauer and you get the stainless Step Steel. You don’t even get steel with the Bauer skates (at least the Shadows).

Do they fit like the Nexus line
@mongillohockey
@mongillohockey 5 ай бұрын
@@toddwolfe5659 Hi there, unfortunately nothing really fits like the old 1N and 2N Nexus skates. I think the closest is possibly the Tacks line of skates, but even those are much stiffer. If you want that fit, I’d start off with anything from CCM but try everything you can.
@AngelSanchez-rw3tv
@AngelSanchez-rw3tv 5 ай бұрын
I have been using the Nexus 1N for 8 years, until they finally broke. Just bought a pair of Wide XF pros, and the fit is quite good on the boot. very confortable and spacy. The only cons I would have is, the XF pros are very heavy compared to the nexus. And the pitch is very flat. Comming from a nexus it almost feels like its completely to the back. I have trouble sending my weight forward to skate. The boot is much stiffer and the blade is definately good. Im still wondering if I made the right choice or if I should go for the Shadows. Just have doubt if the Shadows fit 3 will fit my wide foot.
@mongillohockey
@mongillohockey 5 ай бұрын
@@AngelSanchez-rw3tv So that’s and easy fix. The CCM XS holder is the culprit about the pitch. All that needs to be done is for you to have 1 degree of forward pitch added to your steel and it’ll feel about the same as the Bauer Tuuk Edge holders. If you don’t already profile your steel, you should consider that, too. Remember, if you profile your steel, you also need to as for 1 degree of forward pitch added. I’ve done a lot of testing with pitch and profile and that’s just what needs to be done.

@@mongillohockey very cool. I always run a forward pitch on my steel tho in Vapor’s so I may need that dialed back if they are as aggressive as you say. I’ve run a 9/10 recently but felt like I was missing a little up front on crossovers and tried a 10/11 that I’m not in love with since nobody around me had a straight 10. I just got a delivery today actually of 4 different skatescribe profiles to try. I was telling the beer league bum he could use em for content if they’re not redone by the time he’s ready lol. Prefer CCM skates coming from Bauer skates. Went from Supreme M4 and Matrix to Ribcor 76k and 78k. More flat feeling and more planted solid neutral stance. I tried the 2022 Supreme Matrix and did not like it. Lack of heel lock and stiffness. The 76k that I got for 120 bucks were stiffer for power transfer and had better heel lock than the Matrix! Someday when I am rich like Guitar Slinger I can buy one of these skates that costs over 1k.

Heard a good quote once, and it just might true. ‘You either have ccm feet or bauer feet’ been in bauers for most but recently switched over to ccm jetspeed and it felt better than my previous supreme/vapor skates. Tried the xf80 and 90 in store, immediately knew these were my best fitting skates ever. Ended up purchasing 652s and i was also able to go down .5” more. 10.5-11 in sneakers.
