FIRST RELEASE OF OCELOTS IN IBERÁ

A male ocelot from Biodiversity Park in Córdoba, Argentina and a female from the La Peregrina Breeding Center in Buenos Aires Province were released in Iberá as part of the project to recover the species in this large wetland.
The project to reintroduce ocelots was initiated two years ago by our offspring org,Rewilding Argentina, in collaboration with the Government of Corrientes and various animal rescue and breeding centers. This project aims to restore ocelots to a location where they have become extinct, making it the first effort of its kind.
While monitoring Tomi and Luna's adaptation to their new environment, RA is collaborating with colleagues from Brazil and Paraguay to bring in more individuals from these countries.
While ocelot populations exist in the northeast of the province of Corrientes, they are extinct in Iberá Park, with only a single record of a male specimen in 2015. The recovery of this beautiful feline species is crucial to regulating the populations of birds, small and medium-sized mammals, which are their primary prey.
