I was out on the Murder Glide 2 weeks back, and I stopped at one of the local Harley shops in the Houston area. They were having a huge charity event with hundreds of bikes. As I was talking with one of the both managers, I started talking about Forgotten Angels. I channeled my inner Shadetree, and rambled off the entire mantra by memory. I may not have purchased a raffle yet, but I did in fact spread the word.

Hey Josh - don't know if that carb has the bits in the right places, but a very popular carb mod for KLR650s is to drill out the brass plug over the air/fuel mix screw, and replace it with a long thumbscrew that you can adjust without any tools. If you're going to do the Trans-America trail and find yourself at any significant altitude you might want to have the ability to dial in a better mix to keep yourself going.
@masterofnonetv83612 жыл бұрын
Make sure you have the right squirter and that cam adjusted correctly in relation to the pump rod on that carb, the cam may not be hitting the pump rod soon enough and that could cause a bog when you first hit the throttle. I have that carb on my sporty.
@MrGixxer1300r2 жыл бұрын
Go to Home Depot buy some brass washers that just fit over your carb needle. Add a shim under the needle one at a time until the stumble goes away. Another thing to consider is after you go on your dirt ride and you service Old Dirty Bastard you might consider boring the stock cylinders and adding a set of 1200 pistons for a little torque.

HOW TO FIX YOUR CARB! Go up one size on your pilot jet to fix the lean conditions you’re experiencing while taking off. If you think its lagging past half throttle try raising your carb needle a notch (if applicable) or going up one size on the main jet. Should be pretty easy to do since its only one carb...

You may need to extend the front fork tubes to account for the raised rear end. That will however have a negative effect on the turning radius. Though it should give a bit more ground clearance. May be cheaper to put a 21" on the front, and see how it reacts.

I know it sounds weird but I would have the Key for the sportster by itself. No additional rings or keys with it causing it to be bouncing in the wind. I had inconsistent running/missing/ignition on a fuel injected sportster and it was suggested to take all the stuff off the key ring. The wind bouncing all the key stuff around was responsible for the problem. I thought no way, but I tried it and it worked. Sportster have idiosyncrasies and I do realize the generation makes a difference, perhaps it will not be a problem for you. I had a 2009 and a 2008 later models then yours. One after market headlight I bought had a problem, a gas cap also had a problem but once I found the right one, the bikes ran very well.

I wound up ordering another package of discs an spacing all discs with small washer and it ran great. It was also 96” with higher comp pistons so not quite a stock 883. You could maybe space a few out and see if it makes a difference. Also… the pipes burnt the **ck outta several riding pants and rain suits till I wrapped em. I can’t imagine the burn they would give a fellow riding off during a drop or crash. Definitely wrap em! I still liked that super trap so much I kept the pipe after selling bike.
