Yo I’ve found out the hard way they NEVER send the wheels set up for tubeless. Always set up for tubes. Always regular rim tape. Maybe in the higher price points they send it taped but I’m a working class athlete.

Those wheels were tubeless ready, but lots of them are sold with just protective band for tubes. It really depends on the company, and I believe it's most common if same brand owns the wheel brand - then you get proper setup for tubeless. Honestly... I always reassemble the bike from scratch to be sure what I got ;)

That's not tubeless tape, it's WTB's rim filler. Makes taping over it with (relatively) rigid tubeless tape easier as it doesn't have to confirm to a deep rim channel.

What you got in those wheels is called a rim STRIP not to be confused with tape. A rim strip is good only for a tube not to seal the tires.

Almost 420 ugh!!!!!! I have a salsa journeyman awesome bikes. Those wtb wheels are terrible watch out I broke 3 spokes within 10 rides. Then about a year in they were so bad couldn’t run tubeless anymore. So up grade those wheels 🤙

Same here I also had issues with my Journeyman was having to replace 2-3 spokes every 2 weeks, eventually had the bike shop where I purchased bike replace every spoke, the kicker was the shop would not hold WTB to their warranty so I paid labor and parts for every replacement, needless to say I use a new shop now!!!

I absolutely love mine. Added the magic Raceking variant (2.2 protection black chili) set up tubeless at the seemingly absurd pressure recommendations of the Silca calculator and its faster, supple af, and remarkable grip considering. Great bike...I ride the living @#$& out of mine.

Here’s a food question; how do you store your food when riding? In a bar bag I’m assuming but do you ever bring an icepack or anything insulated on longer rides? Will foil do just fine? Maybe I’m overthinking but feeling worried about my turkey sammie going bad on a longer ride..

2 main things I will use are: 1 : Parchment paper the other re used a plastic bag from something else. We never use ice packs but it never really gets that HOT here. We store food in jerseys, fanny packs and bags on the bike which ever works for you style. Hope that helps!
