So, many BB's can be removed with a large wrench or pipe tool (threaded vs. press fit). Most BB's are cheap and work very well. It's a 15 min job and good to know. For $230 you can replace your bearings many times. Just sayin.

I’ll be fine! 50 miles later I can’t maintain 10 mph and wonder if I can get about 10 miles back. I’ve never felt like this. Barely got back to my truck, I had driven to the start point. After a long sit I try to drive back home but end up pulling off and puking in a mall parking lot with my extremities going numb. Took awhile to get over this one. We will call it a learning experience.

I feel these guys and hear what they're saying. I'd like to see a video showing the other side of the coin...like, "What should a bike shop ALWAYS do for a customer". My #1 beef with some bike shop bros is the attitude that "I'm way more into bikes than you because I work here and I'm going to tell you that you're wrong on everything that you think you need". They want to be appreciated and respected, but it goes both ways and far too often have I taken my business elsewhere because some bike shop bro was a total elitist a-hole to me.

Is there a bicycle computer that you can search for a business or address by name? Like the Karoo 2 does. I don't want to keep taking my phone out to look for a postcode

I remember Natas having an Ant bike built for him back when Mike Flannigan was building bikes outside of his school, maybe he still is, and that was a super sweet bike. Worth looking up if you're interested.

Most bike mechanics are full of themselves and arrogant. Unless your dressed like they think you should be dressed like they treat you like shit and TALK DOWN TO YOU. Sell you something that wont otherwise sell because you don't know what the latest greatest thing in everything IS. So ask there opinion ,bad bad mistake and they'll lie and sell you that item that nobody buys because it's junk. But they'll look you right in the eye and scam you. I LEARNED TO DO MY OWN WORK SO I DON'T EVER EVER HAVE TO FORCE MYSELF NOT TO BEET THIS SO CALLED BIKE MECH ABOUT THE HEAD. YES MAY HAVE SAVED YOUR LIFE. DO MY OWN WORK NEVER WILL I TALK TO A BIKE MECH. IR WALK INTO A BIKE SHOP. AND LIFE ONCE AGAIN IS HEAVEN. EVERYONE OF YOU CAN GO POUND SAND.. LMAO

In many bicycling videos I watch, mention is made that it’s tough times for the bicycle industry. Why is that? Bad economy? Something else? Why are bicycle makers struggling?

I like group and solo, just kind of depends what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, etc. During the week I'm usually solo. My pace, my exercise. But on the weekend I like groups. It pushes my limits, see new lines to take, and new places to visit.

Bonking story: Day 1 of 4 bike packing from the Columbia River at Beverly WA to the Puget Sound along the Palouse to Cascade trail. Constant 2-3% up for 12 miles in sand and gravel in 90 F and sun depleted all my water and food faster than I thought, it was meant to last the 40 miles of the whole day. Managed to make it out of there, just. Taught me to be careful about under-biking (had the wrong tires for sand and loose unpacked gravel) and to bring way more water and calories for long climbs in the wilderness.

I see fitters measuring seat height from the center of the bottom bracket. This makes no sense to me as crank lengths vary. The measurement should be to the pedal.

This is super helpful. It validates me fully stocking a home shop! I buy the tools. I buy the parts. I google and learn how to fix my own bike. It's cheaper and faster and I know it's done right. With five bikes now I'd be poor[er] if I couldn't work on my own steeds. The last thing I need is to have to skip a ride (or two or seven) because the "summer rush" has my LBS overloaded.

My first real bonk was in the Michigan UP riding a week long tour of the South shore. On the last day we went from Munsing to Tahquamenon Falls State Park. The last half of that route is flat, slightly uphill. We had a headwind for all of it. Sufferfest. I remember having to get off my bike and literally curl up on the ground to cry for a spell before I could keep going. Ultimately, I made it. It's still my longest single ride at 112 miles. Unfortunately, it was not my last bonk though.

In summer of 1992 we headed into our favourite wood and cleared a new single track path. It was great - swoopy, fast, couple of jumps. We rode it several times, until a few weeks later, on riding in, and taking a sharp bend into a grove of denser trees, we were confronted by bonking. It was my first experience of bonking, and it didn't impress me. Even less impressed were the two people engaged in their advanced mechanics. Not understanding how to fix our bonking issue, we rode a fast as possible through the middle of their picnic blanket, which I think upset their cheese and wine. Sadly we didn't revisit this bit of single track for quite a while, such was the impact of bonking....

When I see KZbinr vids that feature some LBS I'm like... This is fake news 😂 Most bike shops I go to can't wait to overcharge for parts and service while adding unreasonable delays, all done with the most IDGAF attitude. I live in a tourist trap. Maybe that's why. On the sunny side I learned to do everything on my bike 😂

Fuck me you guys are special arent you? Im a 30 year vetran mech bike shop worker. what a wasted opportunity this useless video is. When a title like this comes up I think did they get it right? No you didnt. You just making things worse with this smug arrogant bullshit. Bitching and moaning instead of saying something, anything useful. Why not do the most obvious and tell people to plan ahead instead of bringing their bike in last minute before that vacation or event? Explain pro mech skills have value. Its not easy enough for many to fix their own bikes but since it looks like it is for us it should be free or cheap and done when you walk in? Do they work for free or next to nothing while you wait when you walk in because their job looks easy for them? No. Say that. That needs to be repeated repeatedly. Tell them when they use our expertise for hour and a half getting advice then buy on line we wont be there for them next time. Our time and expertise has value. That time has value. They wont pay for that time so support us with a purchase do so we can kerp supporting them. We will gladly install online purchases if they are compatible but you have to wait your turn and there will be a labour charge at the full hourly rate. We need income to keep the lights on. Everyone wants their bike that is here back too. The owners of these bikes are waiting too. We dont push your bike aside for them so we dont that for you either not even for an extra charge. How about saying you did your dream build picking every custom part that no one else has AND expect to walk in and find whatever you need in stock every time in every bike shop. We suck because we have to order a part for you? You have to order it and wait any way so why is it unacceptable if we have to too? You want the latest greatest no value added but newest different for no useful reason tech and everything to always be in stock. It doesnt work like that. Its not possible for your car dealer, car mechanic or your own business/employer. Its not possible for your bike shop either. No, I didnt watch your whole video because first few minutes were such smug pointless useless whining. You dont dont do yourselves or anyone else any favours with this shit.

Clean your bike before you bring it in to the shop! I wrench part-time at my buddy's shop. Almost impossible for me to quickly diagnose your shifting irregularities when your jockey wheels have 1/2" of black crud on them because you like to ride wet limestone trails when the trails are too muddy.
