Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. Somewhere along the way, we all learn that. Excellent that you're back outside on the bike!

Good to see you out again Juliet. I did the same today, my first outdoor ride in 7 weeks after suffering a bad knee injury after a fall on my gravel bike. You're absolutely right about what it does for your mood, I feel great having done it. Keep it up!

It’s so cool that you could train whist recovering. I had a broken hip and I couldn’t do anything for almost a year. Even a trainer was painful. I lost 25 kg (mostly fat, but at least 5 kg of muscle.) When I started again, my thighs were the size of a normal man’s bicep. It was depressing… but now I’m on a 375 day riding streak and I’m outside every damn day, even if it’s snowing. Pure joy!

Great to see you out and about, everyone knows a bad day on the bike beats a good day at the office office no matter what.

Yay! Getting your Joy back! I have been prohibited from outdoor riding on 3 occasions for 12-20 weeks due to one major foot surgery and two total hip replacements in the last 4 years. I completely empathize with your journey to recovery. But dang, look how far you have progressed in just 6 weeks. Truly remarkable. A strong spirit will move the body! Ride On Juliet!!

So good to see you back out there Juliet. As someone who’s had to claw my way back from multiple injuries, I’ve sort of learnt to value patience and the worth of baby steps, but this has taken me a very long time. The body is a miracle and personally if I was in your shoes I’d be telling myself that a full recovery is possible if I believe it to be. Nerve damage does take a long time though as does connective tissue. I hope you are taking plenty of glucosamine, chrondrotin, collagen, eating oily fish, hard cheese and pineapples. Have a Wonderful Christmas and New Year and Yuletide.❤

Glad to see you up and about. I suffered an AC joint sprain after falling off my bike. Still haven't fully healed. I decided to take it easy and not resume my normal riding until my shoulder has fully healed.

Whilst I appreciate your sharing with us a recovery ride, I find it bemusing that you would choose to ride one handed and carrying a go-pro to film yourself as you ride. Both hands on the bars seems a safer bet considering what you've recently suffered. Best wishes with your continued recovery.

Amazing to be back out! Chuffed for you & the finger movement! ✌ I find that when I've had set backs and injuries it makes me just appreciate the small stuff when I can finally go on a local spin; Riding with the sun on your face, a tail wind behind you, no rubbing mudguards.. ;)

I feel for you. The frustration and unknown of if or when everything will heel. I broke my arm mountain biking the same day as you. I sustained class 2 muscle tears and severe carpal joint sprain. Also, I am not a patient person. However, everyday there is slight improvement and honestly, it has only been a few weeks. I suspect you will regain most if not all function by 3 months. Rehab is everything, both physical and mental. Good luck.

Ride ride ride! I got splattered with a fractured pelvis, spinal injuries and a left leg that doesn't want to work all the time. It was vehicle versus me injury and my biggest problem is fear to ride. I don't ride I get depressed. I ride and I am less than I was before and I get depressed. Now in Boston I ride with the wheelie boys and slow all traffic and rule the streets and it is the best healing physically and emotionally I could ask for. Ride Ride Ride!

get yourself a set of SKS Speed Rocker XL, once they are set up you can take both front and rear off and put them back on in a couple of minutes so when you don't need them you can leave them at home, they take up to 52 tyres, they look so much better than the old style mudguards.
