Hey man, I just want to say. I’ve learn more about sailing terminology and how to sail a Hobie by watching this 27min video than I have watching months and months of KZbin videos on how to sail a Hobie. Thanks man I really appreciate your detailed narrations. I hope to have my TI before August. Cheers from Virginia Beach Va.

Thanks a bunch! I never know if it is boring tutorial stuff or good info. I was planning on making a small vessel sailing tutorial vid but wasn’t sure if people needed another sailing video. Thanks for the feedback. Means a lot!

That looks so much fun. Thanks for the tutorials. I going to get one of these used Tandem IA as soon as I find a nice deal in the SoCal area. \m/

You won’t regret it. They are a blast! Wet, but very fun! Check out my “Epic 120 mile sail” video. That was quite an adventure on the AI! Thanks for watching and let me know when you are a Hobie owner! 🤘

Loved watching. Looks so easy. I’m considering purchasing a Tandem for fishing and take down south to Mexico on a Trailer to a coastal town I visit. Looks much safer than a kayak in open ocean. Looks fun

They are very easy to sail if you know the principles of sailing. If you already understand the rules, go on and grab a TI. You won’t regret it! They are so much fun and very stable. 👍🏻 Thanks for watching!

Yup! It only weight around 300 lbs with me in it, and a decent size sail. So, it does pretty good. Can’t wait to rip in a little stronger winds 🤘

Wow, awesome sailing on the 1st try. Alot of terminology, which is gr8 4 ppl learning 2 sail. Definately alot of fun w/ that kayak. Wow, @ 12:20, the speed of the kayak was quick. Seems like U the knack of this sailing fun. Talking about xpert, xpertin in losi g yur hat. Thx 4 the sailing lessons. R U thinking of adding a jib 2 the kayak? Thx 4 sharing on Utube.

Thanks man! I grew up sailing with my grandfather so I guess some of the points of sail and other tactics stuck. I am pretty good at loosing my hat while sailing. Happens in two videos. 🤣 I may put the spinnaker kit on the Hobie at a later date. Might help with low wind speed sailing. Thanks for following the Hobie content. I promise to get more videos out very soon related to the Hobie!

10:00 Feedback: 45° off the wind is "close hauled", close reach would be around 70°...

Thanks for the video upload. I wish I had learnt how to sail on this Hobie Adventure Island instead of the RS Quest. 💡

The Hobie AI is pretty easy for sure if you know your points of sail. But learning is learning and getting out on any boat is always a good time! 🤘

They're very cool boats. I had a Catalina 27, and it was fun for weekend trips but a bit of a handful for sailing solo. (especially docking) My TI might be less practical, but it's more fun to sail. Launch from anywhere, easy to sail, carry on my pickup, and no moorage fees.

Lots to learn sailing these beasts. I got tired of the furler line getting caught up on my pedals, so I moved that cleat out the left side, and tilited forward a tad to allow for proper spooling. MAJOR improvement. It keeps the deck clear. Also, I noticed how you have your tramps installed on your AKAs. Try slipping the front tube side closer to the hull where the AKA hinge will now be visible in the little window there. Pull the rear of the tramp up close to the hull as well. Don't be afraid to really cinch down the tramp straps to pull it nice and taught. I usually only use the Port side tramp during fishing, as I want the Starboard side AMA to be able to fold in so I can fiddle with a fish I reel in. I fish off the Starboard (right) side.
@FloridaManTV2 жыл бұрын
Copy all! Thanks for the tips! I knew the tramps looked incorrect as they are hard as heck to click the straps together, but it was my first time deploying since I purchased it (tramps already on) so I just dealt with it! 🤣 Thanks for analyzing the video and noticing this stuff! Big help! 🤘

@@FloridaManTV You bet! I wish we lived closer so we could throw down some wakes. I have three to four other buddies up here in Oregon that have AI and TIs, but they all have difficult schedules or other hobbies that limit their sailing involvement.
@insaynbcr2 жыл бұрын
@@FloridaManTV One more quick tip for ya. If you ever find yourself using the hull naked (no sail-AKA-AMA) you will find that the main sheet rope can be a pain to deal with. First I added two more pad eyes along the side of the hull to keep the line from getting sucked under the hull. But, more importantly, I added a mesh side pocket on the face of the foot well. I then pull the main sheet tight into the cleat and coil up the remaining line and tuck it away into that mesh pocket. Easy peasy!
@FloridaManTV2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I do plan to go naked soon. 🤭 And we can sail, just launch on Oregon, sail south, through the Panama Canal, across the gulf, and I’ll meet ya in FL at the beach. 🤣

Got a TI and I hadn't really considered that with the AI the tramps don't let you paddle. (You have to run the TI from the rear seat if you're solo and you're behind the tramps) I tend to not hop in till I'm deep enough for the mirage drive anyways though so I seldom use the paddle. Since the video is a year old you've probably also figured out that you want to keep you pedals even to let the drive act as a second daggerboard/keel. (you'll track better under sail)
@FloridaManTV Жыл бұрын
Awesome tips and I wish I had a TI for the cargo room and other solo features. Yes, I’ve learned a lot since this video but always willing to hear more tips/tricks. I actually fold my drive up against the hull when sailing but I’ll try it down or vertical next trip. Thanks for watching and commenting. Even though an older video, there is still room for great suggestions! 🤘🤘

I do the same w the drive when under sail...it's.actually designed to fold flat against the hull when the pedals are opposite. Another tip is you can feather the drive pedals in really shallow water...I cruise right onto the beach with pedals in 😅
@FloridaManTV Жыл бұрын
Once I learned to feather the peddles, I can go anywhere there is 4 inches of water. 🤣 Sure are fun units. Sad I didn’t get to use mine this past season.
@the_omg3242 Жыл бұрын
@@kyleirvine3482 I tend to just pull the drive when I'm beaching. I don't really want to take a chance on bending the support rod, or worse, cracking the plastic mount.
@FloridaManTV Жыл бұрын
I hit bottom with the drive once and had a slight fin rod bend. Gently straighten it back out by hand in the field and no issues or weird vibrations. Wouldn’t make it a habit but once in a while it should be ok I think.
