@garnforaratch7 жыл бұрын
Hiya Mark, Glad you found it stirring, and enjoyed watching. We sure had a great time just looking at all the shapes and textures the wind had created with the snow, the wonders of nature. Once out of the wind it wasn't to bad, but the windchill was of the scale. Yeah, we were blessed in the end with a wonderful view across the whole of the moffat hills, worth staying out just for that. The early morning light in winter is something to behold, very special. Hope your having a great festive season and we wish you all the very best for 2018 and the adventures yet to be had. Take Care...Roger & Diane

two proper winter warriors , very energy sapping conditions but look at the rewards. did you have to kip in your down jackets ?. also do you carry mini spikes in case needed. another belter . atb r&d. p.s nice bottle of ginger wine would have went down well.
@garnforaratch7 жыл бұрын
Dunno about winter warriors...lol, we could just as easily parked up in front of the fire in the bothy..ha,ha. We usually just wear our down jackets whilst in and out of the tent, and hanging around camp, if it gets really bitter they can boost your warmth in the bag though. We always have crampons in winter on the higher steeper routes, but those Kahtoola micro spikes are canny, and light in your pack too. The snow was still fresh so none were needed. Ginger wine would have been nice aye, the favoured tipple for the ratchers at the moment is Jack Daniels Tenesee Honey and the fire one, very warming. ATB R&D :):)

@garnforaratch7 жыл бұрын
Hiya Mark, Not sure how cold it actually was, did'nt have any kit to give us that info, although the wind was very raw, we've got a anemometer somewhere in a draw, must ratch it oot. Walking out of the bothy was tough marra, the lads in there had a belter of a fire on, we just popped in to say how-do. Once in the tent and out of the wind it's not so bad, that wall came in handy as it bore the brunt of it. Good luck on the driving test, that will open your horizons for you. Have a grand xmas and new year...looking forward to your next outing...ATB R&D :):)

Yeah, the snow is energy sapping, what in summer is a pleasant walk becomes an epic adventure. Waited for age's to get some snow, and we both really enjoyed this overnighter.
