Along with slower movement speed this game is not kind to short races. There are also no short origin characters. They don't get enough to compensate for their drawbacks imo.

The system you guys were talking about in Baldur's Gate 2 and Dragon Age is called "Real Tme with Pause", often abbreviated as RTwP. Games like Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous and Pillars of Eternity have pretty seamless RTwP that can also transition into full initiative turn based. The flexibility with the last two games is especially fantastic because you can use RTwP against large mobs of weaker creatures and just watch your party animate wiping the floor. And then you can turn on turn based for the tactical boss fights.

YES! I so agree with so many things that BG3 did. Like the recasting of spells or having potions hold up for the whole day instead of just a short time. Genuinely fantastically thought out, as it allows people to make the choice to constantly rest or make the most use out of their elixir/spells. Not me who is going to add this in my campaign 👀

I thought it was funny listening to you two talk about IRL DND Attributes. If I had the time this is how I would figure it out myself: Strength: Start with the 10 for carry weight capacity (10 x 15 lbs) and walk for an hour. If you don't think you can do all 150 lbs carried dial back 15 lbs until you get a total you could do without hurting yourself. This is supposed to be your maximum carry weight so if an adventurer can't carry 150lbs worth stuff back to town fully loaded they aren't a 10, you shouldn't be struggling to haul back the equipment to be considered "unencumbered". I think honestly most people are between 6 - 8 and 10 is a regular adventurer (someone physically strong enough to do it). Constitution: I'm with her on this one, it should be a resistance to pain or maintaining a strenuous activity for a period of time. I would recommend doing the strength test with this one since most adventurers will need to endure a long trek back with all their loot. If you didn't encumber yourself (like I suggested not doing) see how you feel after half an hour after hauling it on a walk. If you didn't struggle but you wouldn't want to do it for more than an hour or two I would say that's an 8. If you didn't struggle at the end of the hour and feel like you could keep going then add +2 for each hour you could walk with it after you finish the first hour. Folks in the US military are expected to be able to carry up to 100 lbs worth of gear and complete a 12-mile march in under 3 hours, so I would say that would put you at a 12 if you can do that. Dexterity: Movement Speed is 30 and difficult terrain is 15. See how far you can make it without losing your balance in 6 seconds walking on a 15ft long narrow surface like a rail at a skate park toe to toe for your difficult terrain. For every 2 feet you make it you add +1; I don't think people in real life can get much further than a 15 or 16 for any of the three physical attributes (Strength, Constitution, Dexterity). Intelligence: Take an IQ test. You're not supposed to 100% an IQ test, if you can then congrats you've got a natural aptitude for most things well above average. Pretty easy with this one, you'd just add or subtract 1 for every 5 points you move up or down from 100 and starting at 10. Wisdom: Going to be a little harder to do since it's your overall ability to determine awareness of one's surroundings (Perception is tied to it afterall). Perhaps could do an egg hunt (like easter) and time him for finding all 12 eggs and starting at 18 and for every 30 seconds it takes subtract 1. Charisma: I would say it's based on your ease and comfort of which you communicate verbally with others. The more of an extrovert you are the higher your Charisma. I would just ask people you know based on a scale of 1 to 20 how extroverted they would rate you and average it out.

I mostly agree, but as someone who has gone backpacking, strength should absolutely be calculated with variant encumbrance. Even just 50 pounds gets heavy FAST. I do not believe that a commoner with 10 strength could carry 150 pounds even for a single hour straight, even with the most balanced backpack possible. (For context, a large chest freezer weighs about 150 pounds empty) Also, using extraversion as a metric for charisma wouldn't be my first choice, because some people are very extraverted but very annoying.
@ViruzFitia
@ViruzFitia Жыл бұрын
@@YarnJam I'm basing the fact that a commoner being a 8 is that during the medieval era it was far more common to do manual labor in excess compared to the modern age where I put most people at 6. As I said the basis is that an individual in the military (which I discussed in Constitution) are required to carry around 100 lbs plus their rifle, which I said puts the commoner around an 8 whereas most individuals are a 6 IRL. I also agree it wouldn't be my first choice for Charisma metric but if you can think of a better way to measure it let me know lol. My Attributes are probably: STR: 12 I can deadlift over 400lbs and would have no problem hauling 100lbs on my back CON: 6 I have daily maintenance asthma inhalers lol DEX: 8 I'm known to trip going up and down stairs but I have good general balance across a board) INT: 12-13 I have good general aptitude but I'm no genius WIS: 7/12 Have a lot of life experiences across a ton of jobs but nothing too technical. My Wisdom is reduced when I don't wear my glasses cause I'm basically blind if I'm not wearing them and are legally required to wear them when driving. CHA: 10 I'm extroverted with people I know and their friends but I do not do well meeting new people I only have like 50 points... what do you think yours are? Lol

@@ViruzFitia I don't know how accurate my scores are, but it was fun. Here are my best guesses: Strength: 7-8 I don't work out much, but I do live on a farm and I can pretty easily cary a couple 50 pound feed sacks back and forth across it. Constitution: 8-9 While I was only carrying 50 pounds on that backpacking trip, I walked in hilly terrain for 4-5 hours with one 30 minute break, and I've never broken a bone. I also have bad seasonal allergies though, so that might reduce it. Dexterity: 9-10 I am decently flexible and have pretty good balance, but I'm clumsy. For example, I sometimes knock stuff off my table but I always catch them. I've also never cracked my phone screen by dropping it. Intelligence: 12-13 I've never taken an IQ test, but when I took the SAT I was in about the 90th percentile. I was also "gifted" but that doesn't count for much in my book. Wisdom: 12-13 I have 2020 vision and like to think I'm pretty perceptive. I also grew up in the middle of nowhere so I think my survival is at least better than average. Charisma: 6 I am socially anxious and bad at talking. Why god made this my dump stat I'll never know. That was fun! I almost definitely over sold myself, but oh well.

for me, Charisma isnt just your verbal communication, its your "force of presence". Its how I make sense of the non-Bard Cha casters. I'd measure it as a combo of how well you communicate + how "noticeable" or "influential" you are

Generally speaking, the combat style of the original Baldur's Gate games was called "Real Time with Pause," despite the fact it was still based on the per round system.

When it comes to which planeswalker I’d try to take in a fight, I’m taking Nicol Bolas. Either he disintegrates me entirely, or he makes me into an undead and I work my way up the ranks until he makes me a super strong champion and then I’m good to just be there

You have to disguise your Charisma test as something else, like asking people to write something in the comments and seeing how many people do it. As if you were trying to persuade an NPC to do you a favor.

Wisdom could be watching videos or reading a question and having to decide whether it is ingenious because it works, or if its stupid because it goes wrong. Everytime you get it wrong you loose a point of wisdom. However, given jacobs recorded desire to nibble on tidepots...

You guys are a little mixed up with the turn based part. Traditional western turn based games are like bg3, or similar. The reason being that those games were in fact developed based on pnp turn based games like dnd. The turn based system that you guys are thinking (ie from pokemon or older final fantasy), is traditionally japanese, and western games that use it embraced it from jrpgs.
