First steps to more ease for Black women ✨ I talked to 4 Black women about exactly how they’re doing less. Black girl luxury TikTok and Black Girl Minimalism KZbin are missing the main point. African American women are looking for more ease. We’re taking off the superwoman cape and no longer making it our mission to make life easier for everyone else while we live in struggle. But how does a woman who’s used to doing the most learn how to do as little as possible? We’re sharing our ideas. 🧰 RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS VIDEO:

Ppl say "Folks don't want to work anymore.". The thing is PPL ARE TIRED!! Work at the office, work at home, grocery shopping, car care blah blah blah. No, I'm tired and I'm am not doing it anymore. I'm chilling more. It's hard emotionally, but I'm fighting through it until it's becomes natural.

Hiring people to clean your house stimulates the economy. There’s nothing wrong with that. My family had a housekeeper until I got to the 9th grade. And as an adult I use them, guilt-free. The lady I use now owns the business with her daughter👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

My first step of ease has begun with moving out of my apartment to one of my loved ones. They are allowing me to save up and start my sabbatical journey. I will no longer be the family member that provides a platform for others to move in until they get on their feet, it’s my turn now.

I’m in my early 50s, and wow, I am tired! The mere idea of ease (especially for us) was blasphemous my entire life. I was made to feel lazy for not wanting to work day in and day out, but also for not wanting to raise children. So, here I am, burnt all the way out from caring for other people (including a disabled spouse), never feeling like I could say “no” at work, and pretty bitter. I feel like I got robbed of a life I was meant to have, and now because I blew money taking care of things that weren’t my responsibility, I feel like I have to keep working at least another eight years. I don’t know if I can take eight months, much less years! I do have my house cleaned once a month, my dog taken for hikes a couple of times a week, and have outsourced the full time care for my spouse. I just don’t want to do all the things all by myself anymore.
@StephaniePerry

It's good to hear that you have outsourced the things that you can so far. If you do need to work for another 8 years, is there a change you can make that can make working easier on you?

In my psychotherapy practice, I often talk with Black women about the strong black woman myth and the ways in which they can release those expectations, establish healthier boundaries, and embrace more self-compassion, which all seem to be ingredients of the "ease" you discuss. Thank you for bringing these conversations into an open space for others to learn from. As a woman, wife, and mother, I've never been into doing. all. the. things. I'm just not wired that way, and for me, learning to accept that part of my personality and not get sucked into the hustle culture is my own path toward ease. My husband is very easy-going and so we work very well together. Hoping to spend significant chunks of time abroad in the near future.

I'm burnt out and frustrated. I'm taking care of an aging parent and trying to fix things that have been difficult for him to manage. It is exhausting. And there is no appreciation. I am ready to put that burden down, but I don't know how. I feel stuck and I need to get moving. I have to find a way to get help . I never even thought about getting someone clean or yardwork. I've joked that I need a chef, housekeeper, landscaper and handyman. I didn't seriously think about getting people do do these things.

When I almost worked myself to death, my family survived mostly on prepared meals & bagged salads from Trader Joe's. We stocked some favorites & meals that could be heated within minutes using a kitchen timer even by my child when I was too weak to stand up. This concept is a wise decision to make earlier than later. Owning a vehicle, washer & dryer, etc. are very helpful when affordable. Care Bear Syndrome is real. It's very neccessary to say NO when people take too much & reciprocate little or nothing. Struggle Love should not be tolerated.😊

Started a coaching biz for women over 60, a youtube channel and spin instructor (my form of fun) Left my job as an auditor, hired someone to clean my house, returned to traveling. Once I got paid to do what I was giving to people for free it was easy to leave... never thought it would be possible. As a result, my daughter is not taking a seat on the struggle bus and travels and has lived abroad (as has her brother but Black women are the focus here lol) AND... your influence on me has in turn influenced a group of my friends, many who have embraced a life of ease. Just wanted you to know that your influence runs deep and wide! LOVE YOU! Sign me ... a binge watcher, Denise

I created ease by outsourcing snow removal services, switching to a career that allowed me to work from home, and not allowing people to use me as a crutch (I am gangster about this one). During the pandemic, I discovered online grocery shopping and delivery/pickup. This has been a real time saver for me and I make sure to purchase more prepared meals a few times a week, since I no longer have folks to cook for. I am currently looking for someone to do my yardwork on a permanent basis. I already have a family friend who helps with larger projects around my home (garage and basement cleaning). I love my easier life and am always looking for ways to make my life even easier. Also, I am single after the end of a long term relationship, and that is also making my life much easier by freeing up mental space. My ultimate goal is to snowbird to a warmer climate; pre-pandemic I traveled often to the Caribbean and took cruises so to live in a warmer climate during the winter is the ultimate plan.

Listening to the replay in 2023... yes to @happyinAlaska on the extra labor of relationships and marriage. This is why I divorced and just skipped to a sperm bank to create my family. It's one thing if you marry a person interested in being a partner who also carried weight. But not a person who is physically a man with the expectation to be a taker... yo be taken care of and not contribute to doing household upkeep or splitting primary care duties for children. If I am expected to don't alone LET ME GO DO THAT! Without having to manage and entire grown person's needs physically, emotionally and sexually. I aGLADLY and enthusiastically became a single mom (to 2) ON PURPOSE. My household is happy and peaceful and mommy is present.

Your videos are invaluable!!!! I've just discovered them and have watched 2 or 3 of them thus far. They give me such hope that I can and should pursue my heart's desires. But I must confess that I am a procrastinator of the highest degree and can be quite methodical and overthinking and/or just straight up too lazy to take action. I don't think you have a video to address these issues, but I do appreciate what you have provided, and I will continue to view more and pray it sparks my motivation to get started and see where it all leads. I'm facing some aging challenges and some physical limitations, but with the knowledge your videos are providing, it gives me hope that there's something I can still make happen for myself with such limitations. It may be like trying to redirect an aircraft carrier, but ultimately, this ship can be turned around. Perseverance, commitment, and God's grace is what's needed. Thank you. 🤗

I've been a major procrastinator too. I find that accountability partners really helps me make progress. Plus it's easier to put effort into something that you really want instead of something that you just feel like you "should" do. And I think aging is another reason for Black women to get residency abroad. Healthcare is better in other places. The cost is lower and the treatment can be better. I think growing older in a country that views healthcare as a basic human right is important.

Same as here, I am the youngest, so my sisters think and said that I am the youngest and strong and must take care of others, including themselves, I worked very hard to be where I am, I still work on myself, find time to exercise, walk, eating nutritious, still earn, love myself, I want to live for my self, rest, travel with friends, laugh together, and sometimes people want to make me feel guilty about the way I choose to enjoying my life. Thank you, what are the books that you suggest I read?

Wow!!!!!! You hit it about the emotional labor and relationships draining black women. I find also that in many of relationships I have people want me to become invested emotionally. I refuse anymore…. So be it!

If I'm a woman who lives exclusively on Social Security Retirement benefits, is it an option to leave America?
@StephaniePerry

It is, Kamase. Lots of people live off of their US Social Security benefits abroad. Mexico and Ecuador are popular because of their low cost of living and great weather.

I ran across your video about a month I am interested in getting past negative thinking about myself and others for that matter. The women you interact with soon-to-be career-oriented or are self-made I am far from that I am 66 years old, threw away a nursing career, take care of my mother who is demented, take care of my younger grandchildren to make life easier for my children because Child Care is so expensive. I have no talents no gifts, not very motivated but I really love thinking that I could go abroad and live for a little while away from everyone. I don't own anything. So I'm interested in positive confirmations and changing. Is there something I could do to 66 years of age

Hi, how would you suggest I live with some ease as a single mom with one 17 yo son and 2 teenage boys (in foster care) that I care for daily? I recently became a stay at home mom and in my early 50s. I don't see myself leveling up unless I live with some or more ease...
