Peter Vaughan gets an exclusive opportunity to test the prototype of Adria’s new top-of-the-range campervan, the Twin Max 680 SLB based on the MAN TGE.
It has a super-sized bedroom with single beds that converts into a huge garage area. The lounge offers superior comfort and maximum daylight and there’s lots of new contemporary design inside this extra-long (6.84m) camper.

Thanks Peter, great review as always. Can't help but think that they should have started with a 600 (6m) model first, with an optional pop top as it might capture more people looking to upsize from a Transporter or small campervan. Going to a 6.8m long 4 tonne van is quite a jump in one go, especially if you have to take a C1 test too.
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan 9 ай бұрын
I think this aimed more at folk trading up from Adria's existing Fiat Twins, especially for the far superior MAN base vehicle. I look forward to seeing the 6m version, though.
@JP-xx5xe
@JP-xx5xe 9 ай бұрын
To say that this is 6.8 metres long and has what appears to be a ginormous wheelbase, the ‘bathroom’ and kitchen look minuscule and cramped respectively. A compromise enforced by a lengthwise bed, I guess, in turn enforced by the limited width of the chassis for sleeping across. Great looking interior design elements and nicer than average dinette, but hard to see how these advantages would offset the clear space/ manoeuvrability drawbacks. The 6m Ducato-based Twin layout is a classic for a good reason - the chassis enables such a good compromise of living space against vehicle footprint and agility.
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan 9 ай бұрын
These longer 'vans are becoming more popular but 6m is a great size and a 6m MAN Twin Max is coming - they'll use flare panels on the side to give the necessary bed length across the van.
@JP-xx5xe
@JP-xx5xe 9 ай бұрын
@@MotorhomeCampervan Which will look/ feel like a kludge… You can’t eat the Ducato’s lunch in van conversions with a van that’s simply longer/ taller/ better to drive. The packaging needs to be right. It seems like such an obvious oversight in the designs of the much newer Sprinter and Crafter chassis not to have made them a bit broader at ‘bed height’ - with knock on benefits in kitchens/ bathrooms. But perhaps the leisure market just doesn’t have the volumes for those products to make such considerations worthwhile.

For a van of this size the kitchen counter space is very small even with an extension which seems to be awkward to set up each time.

Looks fantastic and that transformation to the rear bed and garage is brilliant with lots of room. Still the bathroom has let this conversion down. As you say it's a bit tight for space. For the price I would go for the wildax altair RS. All electric habitation. Even though the front lounge area is a bit poor and not as good as the adria. Great video 👍
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan 9 ай бұрын
I'm not so sure about going all electric on the habitation side, as you need HUGE battery power to use an induction hob regularly and I'm not so keen on microwaves. I'd rather keep gas for cooking.
@josh_bfc_2769
@josh_bfc_2769 9 ай бұрын
Agree with the gas cooking. One can always get a camping gas stove which would be ideal to store in both the adria and wildax altair. Wouldn't be to keen on induction hob for cooking either. I always thought the MAN vehicle looked very low clearance at the back. Maybe some rear air suspension Wouldn't go amiss

Different sort of vans I know, but compare this in value, space and general living with the Swift range you premiered a couple of days back. MAN/VW premium worth £20k? Still I enjoy the reviews so keep them coming.
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan 9 ай бұрын
Not really a fair comparison. If you look at Swift's Carrera campervans they cost more than the (much larger) Voyager coachbuilts. It's down to build costs. I'd happily pay £10k, maybe £15k, more for a MAN over a Fiat, though.

Well Peter another professional review of what is an outstanding van. But (there’s always a but or two) The freshwater tank at only 70L is too small, the gas cylinder size looks like the one Calor have stopped, and it’s to small. Having to sit down to was your face is not ideal. I prefer the option of single or a double bed. An oven would be a must. I don’t fancy at 69 buying a van that cannot be driven on a normal driving licence. But I do like this van, far superior to what auto sleeper offered up. But for the reasons given it’s not for me.

We have the twin supreme, I’m watching this and wondering where the extra space is 🤔 Nothing appears to be gained in the living, bathroom or kitchen area . Is it just a bigger bed /garage ? Very little appears to be gained over the fiat . We can stand at the washbasin too .

The MAN has a longer 'nose' so you don't gain the full half-a-metre length inside. The Twin Max definitely wins in the garage/bedroom area, which seems to be the emphasis. I'll be v interested to see the 6m MAN when that comes out.

Your phrase typical continental layout sums up this van. It’s just has improvements, I’m not that impressed personally because it’s only a 2 berth and there is nothing revolutionary about this van. Manufacturers playing safe as usual. I want to see the following. Can anyone build this. 1) Rear bunks on in the rear that fold up, 2 on each side length ways. Navy style beds. 2) 4x4 3) Motorhome style rear seat behind the cab for relaxing. Not the usual upright seats 4) one level floor of possible 5) load Bering roof with ladder for access Make a proper utility/leisure vehicle someone for around 100k Thank you

Can never understand why anybody would want to buy a large campervan above transporter size or a motorhome. They crash about inside as you are driving and then you get to your camp site and you are stuck, not being able to park it at attractions or on days out because of it's size and have to pack everything away if you do try to go anywhere. Even have to drive the whole thing off the pitch to fill up with water. A caravan makes much more sense and is a much cheaper option, with more room, a large fixed bed, not dissimilar to the one at home, if you pick the right one and the ability to go out, leave the campsite and park your car anywhere at a moments notice and leave your high value items much safer behind on the camp site, you also need an extra MOT, vehicle insurance, extra vehicle servicing. Have to mark your pitch so nobody nicks it while you are out. No not for me !
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan 9 ай бұрын
Most campervans (even large ones) are quiet on the road - no crashing about! A campervan like this is no bigger than an Amazon delivery van, so will fit anywhere you want to go, and when you get there you haven't left your loo, shower and kitchen behind (as with a caravan). If you prefer public toilets and expensive cafes, then a caravan is for you (LOL), but keep watching the channel and maybe we'll convert you!

Am I missing something here? It looks exactly the same as most other campervans out there of this ilk. There is nothing new or technically innovative about it, apart from the over inflated price. How about a bed that raises up in the front to cater for the two 'belted' passenger seats in the rear. Or maybe a bolt on rack above the towbar with extra jerry cans and a spare wheel etc.
@MotorhomeCampervan
@MotorhomeCampervan 9 ай бұрын
Price reflects the spec, quality and base vehicle. If you want a drop-down bed at the front, that's not easy in a panel van due to restricted width at roof level but Dreamer does this in a couple of models such as the Living Van.

You do have a bed to relax upon if you feel the need. I don’t like U.K. layout with the rear lounge requiring a bed to be made up, plus having to store all of the bedding somewhere, and no garage. This layout is way more popular than any other worldwide. But then what ever floats your boat, hence why manufacturers supply all different types of vans catering for our specific wants and needs.

I'm not sure what's impractical except, perhaps, the slightly small washroom. Compared with other high-end campervans on premium base vehicles (Crafter, Man, Merc), the price is about right.
