First Test of the 2" Agri Papa Pump

I reached out to Papa Pump and they sent one of the Agri pumps to test out. This is a redesigned Ram Pump that eliminates the metal waste valve and delivery valve. It does this by using rubber O rings and a special shaped inner channel. The pump is 2 inch so it uses a good bit of water to operate. Cold weather is here and nights are getting down to freezing. I will be installing this pump as recommended in the spring. For this video I do a quick install to see the pump cycle. Be sure to subscribe to be updated on the actual install.

This is too cool, thank you for sharing and I'm looking forward to the install video in the spring. Those water intake filters appear to be ingenious for keeping organic debris and gravel out of the supply line, though you definitely need some sort of settlement tank to reduce silt.

@@moorechez67 Wow these pieces of plastic are expensive. I have year round flowing spring on my property. So I was thinking about making The Breurram pump or my own version of the bunyip. Now I'm kinda leaning towards buying a Vodní trkač a from Czechoslovakia for a few hundred. depending on shipping cost.They are cast iron pump kinda like old school farm pumps you use to see. Then shipping here or close to hear, a FTZ(Foreign-Trade Zones) since they are everywhere in the US if you google locations (they can be close to amazon warehouses). Thank you for making this video! I'm currently setting up my new papa pump and I have similar situation. It's nice to see how well it works even without completely following the directions. Lol. I using a barrel as my catchment tank and feed tank using both filters inline. I have 25gpm and 40ft of head so I'm hopeful that I can water my garden soon without hauling water.

Can you piping off of the wast valve with a head? On either of the pumps?

Try putting a vertical stand pipe a pipe length away from the pump and two feet taller than the water source. Leave the top of the stand pipe vented and it should allow any air bubbles easily escape, and reduce the amount of water hammer by giving it a place to go closer to the pump without reducing the head pressure.

You WANT the water hammer effect. It's what makes the RAM pump work in the first place. The water that the waste valve lets past is so the water in the drive pipe can get sufficient momentum to cause a nice water hammer effect when the valve closes. The resulting pressure spike will then force water past the check valve to actually pump some water. That's why for maximum efficiency, you want several things. 1. Have the pump rigidly mounted. 2. Have the drive pipe as straight and rigid as possible (a steel, or copper pipe would be better than PVC). In a nutshell, you don't want any movement or flex that will dissipate energy that would otherwise go towards pumping water.

Are the plumbing interfaces on this pump BSP or NPT threads? If the threads need to be converted this can be a significant cost - especially for the 2 inch side.

@@Waterpoweredtechnologiesyou never need to buy fittings except for your first one make sure it’s brass heat up the PVC pipe with a heat gun or air blower dryer and screw the brass fitting onto the pipe. Make sure the threads are lubricated on the brass. cool a little bit unscrew the brass Wala you have new threads of whatever kind you want.

Our Pumps use an inline Venturi valve to operate instead of the traditional method :)

Seth's pumps rely on gravity to get the waste valve to fall back open after each hit, these use a rubber waste valve that bends/flexes to close and 'relaxes' back open after each hit. Some clever engineering in shaping the water flow past the waste valve makes it a lot more efficient.

For the composite pumps we say 120m however anything over 100m we recommend our metal version - stainless steel and bronze body - these can reach 150m and upwards with some system adjustment

I have to ask. could you not get the head pressure you need by setting a 55gal tank next to the pump and start a syphon drain fill from the tank into the ram. I believe a 50galweighs 416lbs that could out fall from the bottom via 3inch into ram. idk I kinda wanna try it

Hello. Each size pump can move water 100m and lift 2m. The pump size difference determines the amount of water needed to operate the pump and the amount of water you can expect at the top.

hi. as i have been saying, flow rate equals water volume (per sec.) no matter how much pressure you can achieve, the Amount of water that CAN be pumped is Equal to 1/10 of the source flow/volume. that ratio can be applied to the known/estimated source flow rate; in order to calculate the Maximum amount of water that CAN be pumped/raised. my comments have been based on an apparently very low inflow rate; into the intake catchment. i suspect that the source is a spring. d

Nope. Nope. Nope. The water you can pump has a potential energy approximately 60% to 80% of the potential energy of the water supplied (e.g. A typical ram pump has an efficiency of between 60 to 80 percent). How much potential energy does the water have you might ask. That's based upon the amount of water, force of gravity, and available head. So E = HMG where H = height, M = Mass, and G = gravitational acceleration. So Mpumped * Hpumped * G = 0.6 * Msource * Hsource * G Since G is the same on both sides, we can eliminate it, getting Mpumped * Hpumped = 0.6 * Msource * Hsource. So assuming a 3 foot head and you want to pump to 15 feet, we get Mpumped * 15 = 0.6 * Msource * 3 Divide both sides by 15 and we get Mpumped = 0.6 * Msource * 3/15 = 0.12 * Msource For the above example, we do get something around 1/10th, but that's because we're going close to the limit of the pump. If the source head is increased, but the desired destination remains the same, then a higher percentage of the water would be pumped. I'm assuming an efficiency of close to 60% because the pumps the gentleman in the video produces have a lot of flexibility in the drive pump and the mounting isn't exactly the most rigid, so the efficiency would be rather low.

Dude I love it! You took all the air out of the sales of that company! They claim that it's a self-priming self-starting version of a ram pump, but you got it to not work the first dozen times you tried it LOL. They also claim that the benefit of a Papa pump over a ram pump is it doesn't need expensive valves replaced.. so your ram pumps cost $180 and this ram pump costs $1,800. But I'm glad you don't have to replace any valves on a pop-up pump because that could get expensive you would only have to build 10 of your round pumps to equal the exact cost LOL you could literally have ram pumps for you and all your neighbors for the price of one Papa pump

Hi Justin, Non of our claims are false and Seth's fantastic video just shows the importance correct and planned set up. Even in Seth's temporary solution the pump was not primes and did start itself. This model is also only $995 USD and is designed to be a long term solution for those that don't want to build their own or want something larger than Seth's own excellent models.

Please don't assume that my comments concerning your installation are meant to be negative or anything except of the most helpful kind. I will soon be 79 years of age and have been involved in much too many such projects that have built within my library in my head knowledge and experience that provides some of the pitfalls that I observe that can make the projects seem difficult at the very least. Some of the pitfalls that can be avoided are. Getting in too big a hurry and failure to follow instructions, both those written and those of just common sense. One such pitfalls is not taking enough time to plan the installation and how the piping is to be secured. One such installation, I recall that caused a huge amount of time and cost an arm and leg, was the installation of a sewer line of about 200 ft. The "job" was not a job except to provide some assistance and to dig the excavation. I instructional the owner that the line required gravel and backfill before being left for the night. Only the joints were to be left visible. However, it did rain during the night as was forecast. In the morning, all pipe was in a pile at the end of the line. This was a very expensive Booboo. Unfortunately this is setting that could have been avoided. It gave me no pleasure for his difficulty Please forgive the sloppy texting, I'm not the best keyboarder in the west. Also, please accept these comments in the attitude with which they are offered. I am a farm kind of person and enjoyed the "off grid" use of the power that God gave us to use!

HI David Seth actually has a good flow rate and our pumps can operate on flows from 20l/m with the standard valve.

When I bought our ram pump I played around with it just like Seth. It's a good thing I did too because I learned a lot and avoided a permanent installation that I would have had to redo later.
