Great topic. I would find a house or business with a solar-panel array on it; properly configured systems are hooked to a battery array, so I'd have power even if the grid went down. I'd construct an outhouse (for lack of a better word) for the day water stops. Get some guns, find a hybrid vehicle to maximize what gas I can get hold of, and do my best to survive all alone. I'd try very hard to keep accurate track of the day/date. I'd probably also try to find a radio station and try to get my own message broadcasting on as many channels as possible. Eventually if I got brave/bored enough I'd probably go to Washington DC to the pentagon or some other such place, and try to find some documentation on Government top-secrets, just out of morbid curiousity. Hell, maybe I find some concrete information about aliens, maybe even a potential way to contact other intelligent species. The likelihood of me actually being able to navigate a place like that and find documents of any importance is slim to none. I'd probably just die from tetanus after accidentally cutting myself on a dirty old filing cabinet. :(

My 10 step plan: 1. Get in my car 2. Drive until i find a better car. 3. Step 2 would repeat until i reach the city. 4. Gather supplies in a base of operations (guns/food/clothes etc.). 5. Make sure im the only person and find out what happened. 6. Find a dog and raise it from a puppy to be my companion. 7. Save all the porn/movies/youtube/music i possibly can before the internet goes down. 8. Gather my thoughts and prepare to move on. 9. Travel the world, collecting books and memories, and leaving cryptic notes for when a new intelligent life form rules the planet in millions of years. 10. Settle in my favorite place with my goat wife.

Colin's got good questions. If I'm the last human (in immediate vicinity at least): First week - Gather resources (Food, Fuel, Shelter, Medicine, Books {Medical, Technical, Knowledge based}, Weapons.) Gasoline goes bad in 1-2yrs (degrades to a point where it's not usable in modern engines.) The power grid would be dead within weeks if not days w/o human intervention. There's no auto-disconnnecting of parts of the grid that fail when fossil fuel plants run out of current fuel supply which would be very quickly and it would take down the majority of the power grid. Natural gas and propane supplies would be your major usable energy source. Then finding out if there is anyone else really alive.
