Hawg's first thoughts on No Rest For The Wicked. It is possibly one of the hardest games I have ever played. Have you played it? Let me know what your thoughts are below!

Hey Hawg, Dark Souls fanboy here. I haven't played No Rest for the Wicked but from what I've seen on stream they're definitely trying to make a top-down Dark Souls style game. I don't know that I'd call it an ARPG at all. A feature of Souls games is its crushing difficulty, and having to repeat bosses over and over and over again until you either puke, break your controller or learn every move they make and win. It's definitely not for everyone (first time I tried a Souls game I quit pretty quick). But once you conquer it you feel like you should be able to put that shit on a damn job application. Love the content homie, and you should definitely try out some Souls games on stream -- people love watching fresh meat. Cheers!

Had a rough time with the first boss, but I ended up forcing myself to learn parry timing. Couple things I have learned so far are to use the heavy/charge attack as much as possible on bosses, and that if you need to farm loot, dying respawns all of the chests and most of the time if you just exit the game and come back in the mushrooms and stuff will respawn. Cooking is a must. That mushroom and meat curry is a lifesaver, especially through the sewer section. I wanted to play a dex build, but I am nowhere near good enough for that. I just ended up leveling strength and carry weight so I could medium roll and use the sword you get from the first boss, and that thing has carried me through two bosses now. Anyway, long ass comment, but great video. I was expecting "harder than Diablo," from what I had seen, but I ended up just getting Isometric Souls. Hell of a learning curve, but so far I'm diggin it.

Rock on Hawg, respect for stepping out and trying something new!!

@hawg_tv Areas will also respawn if you go into another area for a while. so if you spent a bunch of tim on the second boss, try going to the beach area again, as it will likely have new enemies. There is also a guy in town by the whisper that has challenges and bounties that you can do for items and crafting patterns. The bounties cause enemies to respawn if the bounty is for an area where there are no enemies as well. He gets a new set of 5 of each every day (real day not in game day)
@jeiceginyu45952 ай бұрын
I feel you on that one stuck on the second boss as well.
@Dankometer2 ай бұрын
I believe you can make a new realm and take your character that is stuck on the second boss, to the new realm. You'll be in a fresh game world, so you'll have to progress the story again, but it will be back at the beginner difficulty. That should let you practice dodges, Parry, and farm more healing items. Heck, you might get a new weapon!

You’re giving it some thorough and honest feedback. I wish more KZbinrs were that direct. I encourage you to keep going as I have learned to deeply appreciate the difficulty across all forms of content. To be successful at this game, one must break all of their previous knowledge of other games’ combat loops and their underlying reward structures. How? Via a change of mindset. It sounds crazy, but death is an opportunity in this game. It’s the game telling you that you dun goofed. It’s telling you that you need to study more. Study the animations, they reveal everything. How do you see all of the animations? Die. A lot. Because they are revealed at different points depending on the state of the enemy. There’s a lot more I could speak to, but I’ll stop there as this comment is already too long. Good luck and may the gods soften your next death. Haha!

I'm very glad i bought this game, i am Luving it, it gives me oldschool early 2000 arpg Meets Darksouls vibes, and the world looks like a moving painting with tons of secrets, things/ways to discover to progress. Combat is great and i love the somewhat punishing systems. Make new realms to farm up a bit then go back to your original realm to continue. Its like making new worlds in diablo except they stay until u delete them.

It seems most people associate ARPG with a Diablo-like game. It just means action rpg, which has a wide range of how that can play out. Because this is top down, people think it's Diablo but it much more so plays like a Souls-like. Which means difficult and not much in the way of an "easy mode". That being said there's a lot that comes with these types of games. It's a bit of a "get good" but honestly with this game I think you can balance out the difficulty with builds. I've beat the game a few times now (there's only a few bosses so that's not saying much) and the builds drastically make a difference. Customize your build a bit, see what you like, and try to hone in on that. I highly recommend the heal aura rune. It lets you heal with any amount of the gauge so you can literally hit the boss once, back off, and heal as much as you want. I'm not sure if that's intended but after I got that it made my runs a lot easier. Tip for enemies and bosses in this game is to roll into their attacks. Often times if you roll away from a swing you end up finishing your roll on the end of their weapon. So roll towards/behind the enemy and hit them in the back.

It's a Souls-like, I've watched a few streams of it now, and that's exactly what it is, even though they're calling it an ARGP. If it's overwhelmingly hard, it's probably because you're just not used to playing Souls games. Elden Ring was my first game like this, and I was terrible, so I definitely understand. This game is not going to be for everybody, but so far, I think I'll really like it, when it's finally released that is. I don't touch early releases, I can wait, early release games generally have a lot of issues, and are obviously missing a lot of features.

This is my first soul's like and I'm loving it. I just found My first unique I got fucking all purples that have good stats. Got a sick dagger build going. Need a controller for sure. Its good though. Its definitely a good hard for sure. Takes some getting used to. Its not a farming game. You can buy all your resources in town from npcs to overpower yourself. I recommend daggers and cloth so your dodges are faster

This game is incredibly fun but still has some major flaws. You die a lot and that's fine and since they patched durability it's not as punishing. I'm tired of farming materials to cook food though. It's like they took the worst system in Bloodborne that no one liked and put it in here. Other than that I love this game. It has to be the most rewarding exploration I've ever experienced.

This is gonna sound mean but I say it with love, all I heard in this video is excuses and I didn't hear the word consequences once. Everyone loves to point to the difficulty of souls likes but the truth is the name of the game is choices and consequences, they are action games but ones where you are forced to be deliberate with every single action you take. You don't have to be god's gift to gaming or a parry god to love them, you just gotta pay attention. Read everything you can, get a read on boss moves and patterns, hell get a read on how long it takes you to recover from a swing or block or cast. I have played and beaten most of these games using a mmo mouse and a 4 button footboard cuz imma gd cripple whose stoned af most of the time. You were right about one thing though, no key rebinding and early access are exactly why I'll just wait to buy this one! If you ever wanna learn a few handy tips from a 3 leg dawg hmu offstream sometime, you got this Hawg!
@aaronwe98502 ай бұрын
This is not an ARPG. You have to be careful and watch what the enemies do and hit when they leave an opening. No standing next to enemies and pounding away. Gotta hit and run. Well, if your stamina doesn't run out. No stamina, well, you're gonna get smacked. I'll be honest. When I first saw the game, I was like, Nope. But after watching Asmon play, I decided that this might be fun. So I can thank him for Elden Ring and Palworld but I'm stopping at WOW. I will be playing this game for a while. When I was stuck progressing in the mariner area, I just walked around and picked up stuff. The chests replenish themselves and the herbs and mushrooms grow back. Eventually, I had enough to make food and I found a one-handed sword. Since this was a warrior char, I preferred to go sword and board. Also, my char was stuck with a staff because he needed one point in INT to use a sword. I don't know how focus works for Mages or folks who use bows. I hope that I don't have to smack people a bit before getting enough focus. I also wonder if the game supports dual-wielding. I always have a dual-wielding char in every game if it's supported. Since I'm timing impaired I miss nearly all parry opportunities. Not fun but at least I can block. I'll probably have to collect a whole bunch of repair powders and stuff before I fight the first boss.

You should definetely play more Dark Souls esque games considering you are a D2 vet. I think they conpliment each other, requiring skill and twitch time accuracy to prevail. Hell, to not play at least Bloodborne is a tragedy in itself. Just my two cents.

Not a super fanboy of the game but your incorrect on a lot of stuff your saying.. The mobs do respawn at each story point I believe. Also the 2nd boss doesn't gate your progression it just gates that section's completion. Did you go out the top right section of the city to quarry yet? ton of mobs there. As you zone in there the mobs will respawn in the older area. Also all chest and craft materials respawn. No you are not meant to fight the boss over and over at least not in the story of the game later there is a end game mechanic that allows you to replay bosses. The game is not trying to be other games it's own thing and maybe not for everybody but, most of your criticism is based on incorrect information is my point.

My thought would be something like this - It feels like a racing game where the handbreak can't be released. I would 110% prefer this game to not have souls like combat. Call me bad how much you want. I want to have speed in a ARPG. I want to be extremely powerful. Some people just say "Skills Issue" "GIT GUD" etc. Why do people play standard/hc poe instead of Ruthless? Because the majority want a faster and more comfortable game. These players h ave most likely not tried the crafting system of POE. The complexity in a ARPG should not be in the combat ala souls like. It should be in the crafting / skill system, and to make it difficult to get a build to the point of it being powerful. If i want a slow game where sharp as thorns tactics are you're friend, i just go buy Baldurs Gate 3, which i did instead actually. And i think the reviews strenghtens this point. The reviews are not positive, which i think is a marketing issue as they directly targeted Diablo and POE. I do think that this game is a great thing to happen, as i am confident GGG will take lessons from it, not making POE 2 "too souls like", as that is a huge mistake in a ARPG. This might sound negative, but it's actually not. I do think the game is amazing, but it is not what Moon targeted and marketed it to be. This is quite clearly a isometric looter platformer. And the last point in this video is spot on. If you are not able to out gear or out level bosses/content in a ARPG, good luch keeping the majority which in reality is the casual gamer. People will quit a game if you cant kill a boss in 150 tries. Simple as that, however you're feelings is about that.

Yeah, but that’s just debating semantics because Elden Ring is considered an ARPG an action role-playing game. Same with a lot of different games that aren’t dungeon crawlers are still action role-playing games. You can absolutely go farm levels. You don’t have to stay at that boss that you can’t beat. Everything respawns with harder, enemies, and more loot. Go grab a couple bounties in town head over to Mariners keep and just kill stuff for fun you gain a level in under an hour. As far as key binding, it is early access. It’s definitely not a mess, especially for early access. Souls games aren’t for everybody, but I agree with another comment here practice makes perfect. After going and farming some levels, you wind up, smoking some of those harder bosses that were giving you trouble. If you get used to the combat and telegraphing enemy attacks you’ll eventually start destroying everything so there won’t be a need for a difficulty slider. But just go for some levels and then go back to the boss.
