In fact... all the vertical shanks could easily be engineered to be spring-tensioned to seek the perfect depth regardless of whether the rows are level with each other...

Perhaps graduated marks on the shanks of the various weeders so that you know they're even and at a certain depth? Doesn't have to be in. or cm., just lines in sets of 10 so evenness can be assured. Could be lasered-in, or even a good sticker would do it. Great tools, btw!

Also... the trailing counters could be spring-loaded... that way you could always have them seeking the correct depth...
