First Time at Grillby's - An Undertale Cartoon by Chris Niosi

After finally playing through this life-changing game over the last couple months, I became an instant fan and was inspired to make a short cartoon based on its world and characters. When trying to come up with a simple idea, I was reminded of Papyrus' distaste for grease...thus, I imagined his first (and perhaps only) time going to Grillby's with his brother Sans. For the animation, I wanted to try some experimental stuff by going back to my roots of puppeted-animation and MS Paint graphics, combined with the traditional skills I have now. Had lots of help with the sound, music and voices too, so thanks to everyone who helped inspire this and who helped make it happen! ENJOY, HUMANS.

Asgore's theme is called ASGORE, but the part that plays before that song (the intro in the game, where it tells you that you're filled with DETERMINATION) is called Bergentrucking.

To me, Toriel’s House, Grillby’s and the MTT Resort have always reminded me of the Hero’s Journey, specifically where the hero (Frisk) crosses the threshold into adventure and goes to these places after various trials in order to relax and/or even prepare themselves with items and knowledge to face the coming challenges ahead- sort of like the cantina in Star Wars.

I got Papys joke, I think. If king Asgore ate at Grillby's, he would be the Burger King. But if Grillby expanded to a "mobile location" (aka food truck) and Asgore ate there, Asgore would be the Burger-truck king. This is probably both wrong and completely unnecessary. Oh well.

Man this short was great. It gives me those Tome Season 2 feels all over again, with the important exception that this sets the bar even higher. Something I see in this that I haven't seen in your previous work is an attention to the volume and form of the characters, they look like they could occupy a 3d space in every shot. I must have watched it 3 or 4 times to take in all the details. Great work!
