FIRST TIME at the LA Zoo | All Animals, Exhibits & More

We went to the LA Zoo for the very first time! We love zoos and we've been to many across the country, but we've never been to the LA Zoo, primarily because it's in LA, and who wants to deal with that traffic?
But we decided it was past time we made a visit to the LA Zoo. It was larger than I expected it to be, but we prefer our home zoo in San Diego.
During our visit to the LA Zoo, we saw lizards, snakes, flamingos, tigers, hippos, elephants, giraffes, gorillas, and a host of other animals, including some new animals we haven't seen in any other zoo.

I mostly know of the LA Zoo from the intro to the tv show Three's Company. Late 70s, early 80s show. Some things still look familiar but it looks like back then some of those animals were a lot closer. then again they also had some of the actors standing within the enclosures.

Last time i went to the LA Zoo was over 25 years ago. The Mircats were ... well you hang a right at the burger place you went too. It was underground looking with these bubble windows you could stick your head up into and be eye level with them. Its amazing how some parts of the zoo are so different but other parts are exactly like i remember. The giraffe area looks exactly the same.

19:40 that’s the lion exhibit but the LA zoo seems to always adopt older lions from other zoos so they always die every 5 or so years

Great video. A couple quick comments. The Australia House closed before COVID so I think it's just closed. Also the Gila Monster is pronounced "Hee-la" monster, just a little tip from a former southwesterner.

Is it true that after your timed tickets expire you can stay until the zoo closes

Your timed ticket is just for entry. You can arrive 15 minutes before your timed entry and it expires 30 minutes later. But once you're in the park, yes, you can stay until close.

It was certainly hot and exhausting the time of year that we went. However, it’s not nearly as exciting of a zoo as the San Diego Zoo. We’re hoping to check out some of the nation’s top zoos this year during a road trip to visit family. We will be going to both the Columbus Zoo and the Henry Doorly Zoo and we are excited to see how they compare to SDZ.

Stroller rentals are available on a first come first served basis according to their website.

You should tour the Oakland Zoo. I have been there many times and it is very nice.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been there now, but I can’t recall any insecurities in the parking lot. All felt very safe and great to me.

About 30 seconds if you park at Mickey and Friends. I walked right through at 8 AM (parking garage opens at 7:45 AM) Avoid Harbor Blvd at all costs.

Los Angeles zoo hasn't changed much. I think the exhibits need some work. Saved the best for last. My CA Sea Lions. Thats the one part remembered. And do they still have the Orangutan's. I remember lots of walking and animals are very spread out. Sorry it was so hot.
