I really get upset when people comment that Sophie needs to ride Finn and Stella, and not Storm. Sophie needs to ride something like Storm to grow as a rider as well as rebuild her confidence. Finn is a difficult pony, and I can tell from the videos that she’s a bit afraid of him. There’s nothing wrong with riding Storm, it isn’t some sort of betrayal to the two horses.

Very scary when your foot gets caught in the stirrup like that and mounting can be one of the most hazardous parts of getting on a horse ( I’ve seen quite a few mishaps over the years). It would definitely be worth you getting a taller mounting block, as Gabby is right, it doesn’t do the horse any good if you’re pulling yourself up by the saddle and twisting it on their back. Sophia should be able to do her own stirrups with a little practice, just keep your foot in, but raise your leg slightly and adjust the buckle, you’ll soon get the hang of it, same with tightening the girth when mounted 😊
@Monika-hl8om5 жыл бұрын
They dont really need a taller mounting block she can get on just fine. Its tall enough she just needs to learn to get on properly

@@Monika-hl8om I disagree, however you're entitled to your view. Sophia doesn't mount properly, you're right, however if she had a taller mounting block she could ie facing the horses tail
@sarahmason46985 жыл бұрын
Wise words Mel, we are definitely vulnerable when mounting... and it's not comfy for the horse if we're pulling ourselves up. I seem to remember I was encouraged to lengthen my stirrup leather to help me get on and then adjust when in the saddle (back when I was a child and mounting blocks hadn't really been invented!). I'm still mindful of springing up quickly nowadays, just in case! Yes, adjusting stirrups and girth whilst onboard are handy skills to learn!
@melbowell56015 жыл бұрын
@@sarahmason4698 yes, I remember that too, but had more spring as a child lol and remember splitting my jodhpurs mounting as a child once, before the days of stretchy fabric 🤣 Only problem is if you lengthen your stirrup too long you can't then swing your leg over easily lol.
@bridgetwebber58735 жыл бұрын
Mel Bowell I completely agree. Storm is a decently tall horse for her. A mounting block could totally help both the Storm and Sophia. And yes, she will eventually get the hang of shortening her stirrups on her own, she just needs to try more instead of having people do it for her constantly. That’s how I got used to it. I had to, I ride a school horse a lot so the stirrups are never the right length even when I put them how I thought I like them 😂

I just want to add that Sophie probably wasn't hurting Storm as much as Gabby made it seem like. Damage from the saddle being pulled is from ground mounting over long periods of time. I will say a taller mounting block will help, but as someone who is 4'8 what I have found is most of the mounting blocks can be flipped to make them a bit taller. I really would advise more contact on the reins in all aspects (mounting, riding, etc) unless you are cooling out. None of this is hate, just helpful tips.

First, Finn's dapples look amazing. Then instead of a dirty, dusty barn on a dark, dreary day what I saw was magical. He didn't buck he just walked off and her foot was in the stirrup. You also need to teach Sophie not to yell or scream around horses. In that kind of situation and you scream you'll spook the horse and actually get hurt and fall and you could also trip the horse up with your foot that was dragging on the ground and the horse could get seriously injured. Also if Storm was lame why would you ride him? That won't help with it, it will make it worse and make the horse even more lame

This is why people have to train their horses to stand still while the rider is getting on. If the horse doesn’t stand still, you could get caught in the stirrup just like Sophie did and just hang there. And while you hang there it’ll put pressure on the side of the horse, which will bring discomfort to it. That’s probably why Storm “bucked”. He wanted to get Sophie off his side to get rid of the pressure! And Sophie shouldn’t scream around the horses, it can scare them and make them spook.

Has Finn's saddle been checked for fit? My horse used to do the same thing when the saddle was hurting him( not wanting to go foward, would stop right away, tail swish etc) we thought it was attitude toward the work we were asking of him until we REALLY looked at the tack and sure enough it was the saddle. Even the slightest unfit made him upset. Once we got that sorted after 2 rides he was back to himself. Horses are so hard bc they cant talk to us and sometimes it takes a while to figure out what the issue is. Even if the saddle is slightly not fitting properly it can affect him differently than a different horse( if that makes sense lol)💙💙

For all the haters: this is just a accident, I am sure it has happened or is even going to happen to every equestrian out there. People make mistakes and that’s the only way to learn is from your MISTAKES. Every rider will make them, if you don’t are you even a real equestrian? The real ones make so many they can’t even count, but they have all learned from it and that’s what Sophie, Laura and gabby will do. So don’t hate on them for making a small aberration because they will get past that and show all you what their made of!

Ok I’m gonna give you a little help on the barrels, when you go to a barrel make sure that you are 4-3 feet away and then when you turn it you turn it close and make sure you sit with that to because when you do barrels you haft to keep up with the horse. If you want I’m free for FaceTime lessons all week for barrelracing and I give lessons too. Ceep up the good work oh and make sure that your inside hand when you u turn is down further it will help with the turning, anyway keep up the good work!👍

Instead of running away from willow you can hide your halter. I have a horse named willow and if she sees you she runs away. You should try that sometime! It really helps! What vet and farrier do you have? Just curious!
