First Time Camping With A Roof Top Tent - A Day Of Torrential Rain! On A Wild Camp Site - Love It!!

After watching many videos of people using a roof top tent, we decided to get our own one! We weren't disappointed - we loved it! It was spacious enough but still cosy and warm. The only downside of it is getting in and out when you need the loo in the early hours, but that's all the fun of camping. Next time we use it, we're going to add just another thin layer on the mattress only because we've both got back/hip issues and could feel the bars on some pressure points. Our destination was a lovely wild camping site on a quiet lane in Thornage. Set out in your own individual glade, it offered privacy and seclusion. There were two compostable loos, a tank of water (not for drinking) and a horse box with bottled drinking water and wood for sale. What more do you need!? We loved the site. On a cloudless night (which our second night was) the stars are amazing!! When we're camping, we prefer to leave the car and explore the area on foot via public footpaths. There were only three routes that we found on the OS map app one of which we enjoyed on day two - that video coming soon.
Would highly recommend this campsite if it's the wilder option you prefer.

Hi Jenny and Robert 👋. The roof box is great, looks very comfortable and cool, the main tent is functional and fully furnished, ready for everything. So peaceful campsite with beautiful sunset ❤. I saw Stephen King book on the little table, I really love King’s books ❤ and Graham Masterton, Lisa Gardner or Tess Gerritsen and much more 🤩. Hi Natalia 👋 Yes, we really enjoyed our stay in the roof tent, especially on the second night as we could see all the stars 🌟 It's so very cozy!... bit weird sleeping on top of the car though 😂 The campsite was really lovely... only two other families on it. My genre of books is horror, so I've read lots of Steven King. My favourite author is Dean Koontz. That's a lovely thing to say ❤ We have been together for 39 years, so being compared to a puzzle is perfect! Thanks again... all the best to you ❤ The second part is coming soon 😉

Hi Jenny love Norfolk great idea a roof top tent ⛺️ looked very cosy a great place to bed down for the night. Seemed lovely and peaceful. Well done Robert on washing duties. Shame about the rain as it was so lovely on Friday. Glad you had a good night in the roof tent. It really did cone down loved how you looked at the roof of the tent as if to say 'whatever". It looked just so peaceful a great place to relax and unwind. The sunset made up for the rain. We say the same about loo roll at Download. Hi 👋 Thanks for dropping by! Oh, we loved the rooftop tent, it was super cozy! The following night, we had the window flaps down and just stared out at an amazing starry night! ✨️ Although the rain stopped us getting out, it was a perfect time just to sit and chill - and I finished a book that I've not had time to read (without falling asleep 😂). The sky and clouds were just awesome! The video didn't really pick up the colours but the photos were true colour! Just breathtaking! Yep don't go anywhere without loo roll 😂. Thanks for watching! Oh Jenny, wow that was wet😂 The joys of the Great British weather. The rain has stopped, then 13:33😂 So loud. That's a cracking tent and solar charger unit, brilliant it powers the fridge. Haha! Yes it was wet, wet, wet!! I'm actually really impressed with both tents... we had no leaks!! which was amazing considering how torrential that rain was at times! 😅 The solar panel and power unit was a good investment (when the sun shines! 🌞), we didn't have to take loads of power banks and batteries with us! I was in awe of that sky! The video didn't do it justice, but the photos were true colour - so beautiful. The concluding part of the camp will hopefully be ready in a few days. We had much better weather, as predicted by the weather man 😂 Our second night in the roof tent was even better too - the night sky was fantastic, full of stars! 🌟 Thanks for watching and commenting as always... really do appreciate it! Rooftop tent: That had never occurred to me before, but I can see the advantages: protect your food from bears, keep snakes from your sleeping bag. The real mystery is why solar panels for campers are popular in England but not in Arizona. I'm more of a day hiker. I tried camping on two occasions and it didn't go well. It was definitely not peaceful. When I went to the high country the wind kept blowing the tarpaulin loose, the cold kept me getting up to urinate every half hour, I was twice awakened by logging trucks going through at 3 AM and 4 AM, and then the moon rose and shone in my face. My water bottles had frozen but my Gatorade had not, so I drank that. I couldn't feel my toes until I had walked a while. There were red patches on them that came off in the swimming pool two weeks later, so the frostbite was superficial. The second time I camped in the desert, and the howling of the coyotes kept me up all night, but no frostbite that time.

Wow! That's camping on another level! Snakes! Bears! Sub zero temperatures! My main concern is whether a spider gets in my sleeping bag! 😂 The roof tent is a great way to go touring in... easy to move from place to place. The solar panels are a great idea, providing the sun is shining, which is never guaranteed! We were pleased with it all and will be using the tent more next year Thanks for watching, Jenny 😊

We got the roof tent with the thought that for a holiday, we can move from site to site as you just fold up and drive off (which is what it's really for), especially for the avid wild camper! Hi! We were quite impressed by it! Easy to put up and down - even for me and I have very limited patience 😂 We just added an extra thin mattress to the one that comes with it, just because we both have dodgy backs and hips, so needed just a little extra support. We've done another camp at the beginning of October... thinking it would be freezing, we took extra bedding, but it was still warm and cosy. The October camp we did have a fair bit of condensation, but the bedding stayed dry. If there's more than one of you, it is a bit of a faff getting in and out if you need the loo throughout the night, but camping and faff go hand in hand doesn't it! 😂 We really like it! So would recommend getting one. Ours was a fairly cheap one from Go Outdoors. Go for it and get one! 😊

I've thought about getting one of those roof top tents and put it on my Tacoma , biggest concern or obstacle is Tucker , no way I'd get him up there , not sure how he would feel about down in the truck alone lol. Of course the other issue is having to get down in the middle of the night to go to the Loo LOL. Loves the Solar Power Generators great units for tenting. To bad the video can never do justice to a true sunset or many nature scenes but we try our best lol. Robert is well trained I see LOL. I loves sitting in the Tent when it's raining ....But wouldn't want 52 days straight LOL I don't wanna go home , that's my camping song too LOL. I wish the sun will come out tomorrow, I'm visiting my son since last Monday it's been raining since we been here there's rain in the forecast at least until next Thursday ....so the Rain will come out in about a week LOL. Hi! Yes the roof top wouldn't be suitable for Tucker... it's OK for a small dog that can be lifted, but I'm betting gorgeous Tucker is a good sturdy weight! Getting in and out of the tent is a little bit of a faff when there are two of you - I'm the one who needs to get up throughout the night and trying to do that without too much of a fuss is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE hahaha! 🤣 Yes, the solar panel and power unit was another good investment for sure... we just need guaranteed sun!! The photos of the sunset were much more true to colour - it was amazing! Our weather here is now turning very cold! Hope the rain eases for you soon. Enjoy your family time, all the best, Jenny 😊
