Interesting choice. Nice view of the refinery over in Anacortes. If I was going to drive up there I would have gone another half hour to Deception Pass State Park at the northern end of Whidbey Island. Deception Pass is spectacular and there are hiking trails in the park. If you want miles of sandy beaches you have to go out to the Pacific coast either at Ocean Shores or points north of there, Westport and points south, or farther south at Long Beach. The Pacific beaches are a bit of a drive from Seattle, but worth it if you like miles of sandy beaches. However, the sand is gray not white. I am still going to urge you to cross the sound. I always enjoyed going to Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend. It is a very interesting historic state park with camping right on the beach or in the woods. Fort Worden was a coastal defense fortification guarding the entrance to Puget Sound and a lot of the old fort is still there. In summer it is always cooler in Port Townsend than in Seattle. Port Townsend is also a historic town since it was one of the earliest port cities in Washington. Downtown is small but cool with some good places to eat. I particularly like Hillbottom Pie. They have great soups and pizzas and their pie is to die for. To get to Port Townsend from Belltown, go north on Aurora (highway 99) to Route 104 (marked with Edmonds ferry signs) which takes you directly to the Edmonds ferry. Take the ferry across to Kingston and drive west across the Hood Canal bridge. About 3 miles after you cross Hood Canal turn north on 19 and head to Port Townsend. There will be some traffic on Aurora, but I have never found it to be as bad as I-5. Alternatively, drive to the downtown ferry terminal and take the ferry across to Winslow. From there it is an easy drive north to the Hood Canal Bridge and then on to Port Townsend. You will experience less traffic this way, but you may have to wait longer to get on the ferry. Either way works for going west or east. Coming home via the Winslow/Seattle ferry will minimize traffic on the return and you will be home 10 minutes after you get off the ferry. Just do it!

This is a beautiful area to car camp. I live and travel mostly in Florida just like you did earlier but this summer I had a chance to travel for a month and got to see a lot of Pacific Northwest. I definitely wanna get back there because I just scratched the surface. Great video. All the best to your travels. 👍

David, I enjoyed your video today. The cooking, the scenery and the music. The guitar and mystical sound track was really different from what everybody else is playing on KZbin camping vids. It was a welcome change that gave depth to the scenary: in my opinion. Thanks for the park details and site information P.S. pancakes cooked on cast iron👍 are the best! Look forward to RV update.

Hey friend! Thank you for always posting fantastic campground reviews. I’ve not spent much time exploring up near Seattle so your videos are super helpful. If you get a chance in the future, I’d love to see you spend some time on the Long Beach Peninsula. There are some beautiful parks there. Cape Disappointment is nice, plus the town of Long Beach is super cute. They have festivals at certain times of the year too, like the Kite Festival and Sand Sculpting. You can also go drive on the beach as well. There are lots of nice walks/hikes to be had as well. Another absolutely beautiful place to visit is the Columbia River Gorge. There’s lots of camping out there as well and some EPIC hikes. 😊👍🏽

Sandier beaches can be found on the other side of the Olympics on the Washington Coast (Long Beach/Seaview/Ocean Shores). We love the Discovery Trail at Long Beach since it's mobility scooter friendly. There's the Padilla Bay Trail which is south of the state park on Bayview-Edison Road. There's both a north and south entrance.

The park is very pretty! Our oldest son lives in Oregon. We have been to the beaches there and it is rocky in some areas. The water is terribly cold up there. SC shores are sometimes too cold for me. I don't know how people enjoy the water out there. I hope yo one day get back out there and travel the PNW coast. They are talking about moving to SC. Their oldest wants to go to college there. Ne t summer they plan to come out for a month to visit colleges & make some decisions. He owns a good business out there & I hate to see him leave all that. He seems to think he Dan do it again out here! I hope he's right if thats what they decide. I hope you find another pretty park while the weather is still warm! HUGS ~Donna
