Drama is a bit of a standalone in the overall discography and lore of aespa. So, for this video, they had a series of cinematic teasers for each of the four members in which they go through traumatic events which prompt them to seek revenge, freedom and their authentic paths. So, the members' names are: Karina, Giselle, Winter and NingNing. Their teasers go like this Karina: She lives a double life, as a spy and a celebrity Giselle: She lives with a roommate who gaslights her and spreads malicious rumors about her and she's auditioning to be an actress Winter: Her brother has been run over by a reckless driver named Tony and she's seeking revenge NingNing: She lives a suffocating, boring life as a choir girl and seeks to break free and absconds on a motorbike leaving the unfulfilling dull scene behind. HOWEVER, aespa's storyline before Drama, as presented in Black Mamba, Next Level, Savage, Girls and Spicy is quite different. In those MVs they tell a story set in the future where people all have virtual counterparts called "aes", which live in KWANGYA, a realm of existence beyond the digital world. The aes are created from personal data which people upload to social media. But, since people only post edited photos of themselves and perfect aspects of their lives to social media, the aes are "perfect versions of themselves. The Black Mamba, however, is an AI virus which hacks all digital devices in the world in an attempt to disconnect the aes from the humans because the Black Mamba feels that humans treat all aes as disposable objects instead of as authentic beings. They fight the Black Mamba with the help of Naevis, an AI being whom lives in FLAT, a realm between the REAL WORLD and KWANGYA. This is very overwhelming when one reads it, but, there's a series called SMCU, made up of three episodes, thus far and it's very easy to understand, also, really cool to watch, especially SMCU 3.
