First Time Double Reaction - Superfruit - The Promise and Future Friends

Scott, Mitch, and Adam are friends. Scott and Mitch appeared on Adam's KZbin Channel for fun and friendship so Adam did this video, also for fun and friendship. The Promise is really Superfruits only cover song (net counting the medley's they do). It is a song from the 80's and it is the last Superfruit they put out. It is a promise they each made to one another that no matter what they would always be there for the other. Their PTX schedule had gotten too hectic with touring so they pulled back on Superfruit, then Covid hit. Future Friends was also a promise of the same that is an original. They dated back in High School and had a bad breakup and didn't speak to each other for about 6 months. They said they weren't very nice to one another then and that is the fighting you see in the video. The wrestling is a metaphor for that time in their life; the fight, and the coming back together. In the lyrics they promise that they will always be friends, no matter what. They are now the commentators in the video watching their past selves and how ugly it got, and in the end they were both knocked out because no one won, but at the same time they both won because they are now best friends.

The story of Future Friends goes back to when they dated in high school. They had a bad breakup, not speaking for 6 months, and had to fight through issues to regain their friendship. So the wrestling match is a metaphor - neither one wins when they fight, and they will be friends in the future.

All i can say is that I am so grateful Scott and Mitch repaired their friendship. Scott was so hurt when Mitch ended their relationship; so was Kirstin when Mitch stopped dating her. But Kirstin understood, obviously, why their relationship ended. Mitch being gay didn't fit well with a woman. He was discovering himself when they dated, But Scott...Mitch was the first person he came out to, so he felt betrayed and hurt when Mitch ended their relationship. Scott writes about his difficulty in "letting Mitch go" in their Superfruit book. Definitely worth purchasing! Scott remained in love with Mitch for some time afterward. Thankfully, Scott is soooo happy now with Mark and considers Mitch a best friend and vice versa.

The promise was one of the greatest songs of the 80s and I love their rendition of it so much! It was their farewell to Superfruit as it had become too hard to do it and PTX plus other life stuff. And no they don't skate. Adam's chan has a HILARIOUS video of him trying to teach them to do basic skating and it's so much fun. Guy.exe is still my favorite song and video of theirs, as they released it near Halloween and did a mad scientist theme. So funny and catchy.

The boxing match was inspired by a Spongebob Squarepants episode, where the best friends fight, hence the comedic elements in it like the muscly body doubles. (Mitch loves Spongebob.) The suited commentators Scott & Mitch are them now, looking back on the terrible fight they had when breaking up in high school, how much they hurt each other. But then they eventually moved past it to become best friends. (I think one of them at one point commented that during or right after the Sing Off they considered trying dating again, but decided it wouldn't work. Instead they promised to always love each other as BFFs.)

You should the Album. it's a Concept about their Friendship about them dating, breaking up and becoming Friends. They did a Music Video to each Song of the Album to show the Journey, also they did a lot of stuff on a Budget because every Song on the Album has a Music Video. It's nice to see a Pro to review the Music Videos.

Finally seeing this video... really was sad to hear Mitch and Scott say this (The Promise) was last they would do as Superfruit as all member of PTX put that first than any other side projects. Thank you for this reaction...I always enjoy hearing your thoughts. The promise is one of my very favorite songs that they do I just think it's such a great song but I really enjoyed hearing future friends as well. They have made a comment before in a couple of interviews that I've heard of Mitch and Scott where they say what would they be like if they had a twin and Mitch especially makes the comment that he would be like a football player or something really masculine and he kind of says it as a joke but you also get the feeling that that might really be his alter ego. I think that they're not doing anything with superfruit because Mitch is doing some of his own music and has been during the pandemic.,.he has his own social media setup and he's been doing some things himself and Scott has been working on some other projects besides music. He has a podcast with a friend and I think therefore, they put superfruit on the back burner. Pentatonix always comes first but they have it written in that they can all do individual projects as time allows when they're not working on Pentatonix projects. I think they just haven't been in the mood to revisit superfruit because of their additional things that they're working on individually right now. I heard them say never say never that superfruit may come back someday.

Great reactions. Something happened with Scott and Mitch a couple of years ago. They abruptly stopped their weekly Superfruit Vlog and there was a visible "distance" in some of their PTX behind the scene videos. There is a semi battle raging between the Superfruit fans as to what did or did not happen. Some fans see no difference in their relationship. Others think it's night and day. So I would not anticipate anything new from Superfruit in the near future. Mitch in some recent live streams has said, when asked, that he has no idea if and when Superfruit will be back. He has shown some frustration just being asked about it. But when asked, what was his favorite Superfruit video, he thought about it and said that "The Promise" was the most emotional. Have you watched their non-musical Superfruit videos? They were very funny and silly and flirty, and drove their fans wild by talking about sex and answering very personal questions and talking about being each other's soul mates and one day getting married. They had also been roommates for many years. But I think they both entered serious, monogamous relationships with other men, and I'm guessing it would have seemed pretty awkward to continue those videos while living with their romantic partners. I don't think they've done anything since The Promise; I took it as a message to their fans that even though they won't be getting married to one another or being touchy-feely any longer, that they will always have a special friendship that they will make a priority. Of course, this is gossip and speculation (aka horseshit) so it could be totally wrong info lol. Good to see you again xoxo

superfruit is secondary to PTX and was always meant to be that way. so usually they only tour and make videos when ptx is off like after a big tour for ptx. and since the pandemic that was set off a bit as they were on tour with ptx when the pandemic hit. so i'm sure they wrote some songs for superfruit while they had so much time on their hands and after the Xmas tour and then the regular tour gets back on track, we may get some more superfruit. so nothing has happened to them at all!

I think it's strange people have such conspiracy theories about the guys. Mitch and Scott were roommates when Superfruit was very active. It was easy for them to jump online to make content and write in their downtime. Shortly after their EP both got into serious relationships - Scott's is ongoing and I guess that Mitch's broke up just before the pandemic. But between even more divided attentions and going on to move in with significant others instead of their BFFs, life just got in the way. Friendships evolve.

Scott and Mitch always had serious relationships with others during Superfruit. Mitch was wearing some guys ring in the first couple of Vlogs. Scott had his "guy" Kirk, on a couple of Vlogs and had the picture Kirk painted of Beyonce hanging behind them for years. So yes friendships evolve. They also run into rough patches. Look at the "PTXperience" videos of the tour right after Superfruit stopped. Scott and Mitch avoided each other in a very obvious way. Not a theory. It's on tape. To the "casual" fan of Superfruit it could all seem so natural. But to anyone paying attention there was more than a natural "moving on" process taking place. Scott and Mitch have never talked about it. So we might never know what happened to end Superfruit.
