Along side a great driving instructor your videos helped me pass my test, 5 years ago now. I have dyspraxia so driving didn’t initially come naturally, and watching these videos helped drill the ‘theory’ into my brain so I didn’t have to face situations as new when driving as I struggled to react quickly enough. I like to watch these to refresh. Thanks for everything DGN 😊

Raajan did pretty well and is better than most Americans hahaha I learned how to drive the freeways in Michigan and the driving culture here is much different than the UK. Driving here can be super chaotic. This is what I’ve learned: 1. Middle lane hogging is encouraged. The right most lane (or left most for Brits) is reserved for semi trucks, entering/exiting vehicles and cars going below the speed limit. The middle lane is the cruising lane for going the speed limit or faster 2. It’s safer to follow the flow of traffic than follow the speed limit. Since traffic laws aren’t really enforced, you’ll have to be going at least 85mph to keep up. People often pass you going over 100mph 3. There is a lot of undertaking. Some people clog the passing lane going slower than everyone else. Some people also believe that because they are already going 90mph that they won’t move to the right. You’ll even have people driving the passing lane at 60mph. Most people go 85-90 so you’ll get honked at, flashed at, cussed at and you’ll be undertaken by tons of cars 4. Traffic enforcement is pretty rare and you have to either be terribly unlucky or a complete idiot to get pulled over. The lucky thing is if you get pulled over for 100 in a 70, the cop might be kind and write you for 5 over which is 0 demerits and a $140 fine 5. Stay out of the left lane, especially at night. During the night, people in BMWs, Dodge Challengers/Chargers, Mustangs, Audis and Porches will go as fast as the speedometer allows. If you’re in the left lane and you aren’t passing, they will pass on you the shoulder going 150mph. It’s pretty scary. You’ll also have state troopers passing you at 150mph too. Please stay to the right I also drive in Ohio a lot and the driving culture there is very different from Michigans. Speed limits are strictly enforced and they have cops everywhere. Michigan drivers get most of their tickets in Ohio. In Ohio, you’ll also have guys block the passing lane going exactly the speed limit. It can be aggravating

I just drove on the motorway for the first time too the other day, It definitely is nerve wrecking at first even though you usually practice dual carriageways anyway. Just keep a good gap switch lanes when needed to overtake and it feels a lot easier, i think in general overthinking it makes it seem a lot more hectic than it is especially going from 2 lanes to 3/4.

I didn’t ever take any motorway lessons but it’s an ideal if there’s a nearby motorway! I’ve been driving on the M54 which leads from Telford to the M6 south Wolverhampton! Then I driven on the M5, M42 and M40 and I was so nervous at first but watching motorway videos really helps and my dad did a driving commentary and it really helps!😊 I really love motorway driving but it’s quite daunting at first or twice! Once you feel comfortable and confident, you’ll feel relaxed but not too relaxed!😂 well done Raajaan! Great driving!

Driving in Michigan is super horrifying for all drivers, especially learners You’ll have drivers on I-696, M-14, M-39, M-10 and I-94 pass you on the shoulder going over 100mph. There is rarely any speed enforcement and 0 speed cameras If the speed limit is 70, everyone else goes 85-90+. If the speed limit is 55, everyone goes 75-80+. Going the speed limit on the interstates here can be very risky I remembered my driving instructor said it’s safer to follow the flow of traffic than to do the speed limit so I always keep at 85mph. Even if you do go 85-90mph, you’ll have some crazy BMW or Dodge drivers passing you at 150mph

I've always wondered about what it's like to drive on a motorway in the UK. I'm used to driving on a "highway" here in the US. Typically, the right most lane is the travel lane, but I stay in the middle lane to overtake slower vehicles, and to leave the right lane free for other vehicles merging onto the highway. Obviously, being in the middle lane, I have to go faster than the posted limit. Speed limit on I-95 is 70mph but I usually go around 77 in the middle lane.

As a swiss this is so fun to watch. Your motorways look far more stressful than ours even though we are allowed to drive 120km/h ~ 75mph. In germany there's no speed limit at all and we casually drive 160km/h ~ 100mp/h.
@trowwzers5057

This is nothing compared to what I experience in Michigan. Especially near Detroit. There are 0 speed cameras and rarely any traffic enforcement here. You’ll have people drive in the passing lane at 10 below the limit, everyone hogs the middle lane, people blow past you at 100+, if the speed limit is 70, everyone else goes 90 so going the speed limit is dangerous. There is 0 lane discipline Because traffic laws are so laxed, the interstates here might as well be the Autobahn. If you drive on I-75 at night, you’ll have many people scorching past you at 100+mph. If you get pulled over for 100 in a 70 or 75 zone, the cop will write you for 5 over which is 0 demerits and $140 For example, my mom got pulled over near West Branch for 112 in a 75 (180 in a 120km) zone. The cop wrote her for 80 in a 75 (130 in a 120). She had to pay $140, take a speed awareness class and didn’t get any demerits

Some instructors say motorway driving is difficult. As long as you build up speed well, stay in the left lane unless overtaking or signs say otherwise. You're good what i've noticed in the 5 years i've been driving myself, nearly everyone ignores the 70mph limit anyway and everyone tailgates.

@SuperTylerMan11
@SuperTylerMan11 Жыл бұрын
@@Bartizzle739 Unless if you’re in Carmel Indiana, no one really knows in the US how to use a roundabout either. Let me explain. (Americans like the call them traffic circles, but a traffic circle has lights, roundabouts do not, im an American and I even know that). For how frequent they are, they are uncommon, yes I agree. Although about 500-700 roundabouts to get installed in the US every year, they are uncommon. I wish people could use more discipline and responsibility in the roundabouts in the US. Roundabouts in America, people suck using generally. No one signals when exiting the roundabout, or signal on which way the car is turning left or right, no one does. (Except for a very few people, including me I signal when exiting). Also, in double lanes roundabouts, people just suck using them even more. Some people cut in between lanes , and some drivers don’t have any lane discipline at all. That’s our version of roundabouts.
@trowwzers5057
@trowwzers5057 8 ай бұрын
@@SuperTylerMan11 Roundabouts are pretty common in Michigan. You’re right that many don’t know how to use them. They sometimes completely stop for no reason and don’t use there blinkers Talking about interstates, lane discipline in the US is god awful. Michigan is notorious for drivers going way above the speed limit. If most people are going 85-90mph, then you’ll have someone driving in the passing lane at 60mph. Everyone including semi trucks hog the middle lane. On top of that, I get passed regularly by people going 100-150mph

His response: "Yeah but I prefer the middle lane otherwise I have to change lane constantly" Well yeah, that's the point. It's called active driving but it GREATLY increases the flow of traffic and helps out other drivers greatly if you move lanes back to the left whenever possible. Otherwise you're basically occupying two lanes, which is bad for traffic.

what my driving instructor taught myself was when you can see both headlights with the center mirror is the time to start thinking of pulling back over, as a general rule of thumb, but also being aware of traffic infront may suddenly hit the brakes, so to also be aware of that. I think I was one of the early birds back in May 94. for motorway lessons after passing my driving test as was illegal to do it before. but do believe that lerners should learn motorway skills. a 2 second rule is if not an emergency stop though, as the car in the left lane can slam on the ankers for no real reason apart from to change lane because of a stationary vehicle 50 feet infront of it even though the amber lights have been visable for a mile before hand, and all the warning signs of vehicles changing lanes, as well as leaving more than a 2 second rule while in lane 2, and not able to pass safely so holding back, which can also leave you with a massive speed difference. so always best to nearly 1.5x the time so 3-4 seconds in the dry, plus also gives a clearer view of the road ahead more than 2 seconds especially behind large vehicles.

Dual carriageways suck because lorries are always trying to overtake other lorries, creating a rolling roadblock limited at like 52mph. With a motorway u just unlock a third lane to get around them

The one thing can say about motorway driving is to adjust distance , look at the vehicles way infront of you and any signs of people flashing beams on the opposite side. I normally start braking when the 2nd vehicle in front of me starts braking during heavy traffic. Also I stay away from sitting beside a truck too long as they have blind spots. Pinn can always give Rajaan a little smack on the back of his head if he makes a mistake 😂. It will take lots of experience to be a good motorway driver. I am by no means an expert driver.

@@zarabukhari6621 yes partly that, the main issue is joining the motorway from the slip road, I think that's what is a little scary because what if there is a lot of traffic from your right? Its such a small issue but is there any chance of flipping the rear camera? Its weird to see someone taking over on the right in the rear and they magically appear on the left in the main camera.

It should be mandatory for everyone to carry out at least some form of Motorway training. It baffles me the amount of people that think there is such thing as a fast lane. In saying that, most busy motorways it can be dangerous staying in the left lane, especially where exits are backed up.

Hi Pin, I wanted to ask you a question please. On a driving test can a person let the steering wheel feed back through their hands, but not letting go of the wheel, just letting it slide through both hands, after turning a corner or turning the wheel at any point while driving? Or do you have to do the push pull method for bringing the wheel back stright after turning? Great videos. Thanks
@sherene.613

I'm pretty sure you have to do the push n pull method, I passed my test the other week and I did it that way although the examiner didn't mention anything so I'm not 100% sure but it's prob best to do it that way just incase

Pin, loving these videos, but just wondering (and sorry if this has been said many times before)... is there any chance you could flip the rear-view image at the top of the screen, so that it shows in the video like a real mirror would? As a driver, its great having the rear view there but weird having the image being the reverse of what a driver would see.

I also prefer NOT to stay in the 1st lane when more than 2 are available. You'll be bothered by traffic merging in or slowing down for exits and generally, slower vehicles. When only 2 lanes are available, I fall back to 1st sometimes, but if there's a lot of traffic, I just stay on the fast lane. It's better (and safer) to stay in one lane for long periods of time instead of constantly switching lanes.
@josyms7849

You should be in the nearside lane and there is no fast lane.
@HDJess
@HDJess Жыл бұрын
@@josyms7849yes, there is a "fast" lane. This is what the last lane (highest number) is referred to by almost any driver. And while I agree with using the 1st lane when there's no traffic, it's masochistic to use it when it's crowded. Sometimes, playing by the rules 100% is not the best choice, nor the safest. Argue what you want but on a long trip, the safest way to commute is by sticking to one lane as much as possible and ideally, keeping a constant speed, hence avoiding the 1st lane works in that sense.

@@HDJess If lane 1 is crowded, and you're overtaking, there is no issue remaining in lane 2, but that's not what you said in your original comment. I don't know why you're making it complicated, it really isn't. If you're not overtaking, you should be in the left hand lane. There is no 'fast lane', there is the driving lane (the left one) and one or more overtaking lanes.
