I was like the only one in my school who knew who they were but that didn't last long. By the next year Duran Duran blew up in the "New English Invasion" that happened in the 80's. I was a Duranie back then through my teen years and saw them 20 times in concert. LOL. I loved Duran Duran. Bass player John Taylor was my fav, then keyboardist Nick Rhodes, then lead singer Simon Le Bon. Duran Duran was THE 80's. They owned the 80's. And Brad was right, he is on the hunt for a female. Duran Duran, INXS, Pet Shop Boys, Talking Heads, Blondie, Tears for Fears, The Clash, David Bowie, were all a part of what was known as New Wave or Synth Pop. It was a post-Punk and post-Disco sound. Characterized by crazy guitar sounds and synthesizers among the drum beats as well. It was mostly popular during the late 70s thru the mid 80s, maybe up until 1987. But by 1987, Hair Metal had kinda taken over as the most popular music of the day, even for females as thousands if not millions of girls became groupies for all those hair metal rock stars. I just remember growing up in that era, where from like 1982 or so when MTV started up, New Wave was just about all MTV played for the most part. But then right around 1984 or 85, you started seeing Hair Metal popping up. And then by 1987/88, Thrash Metal started getting a bit of airplay on MTV. Pop music was still getting airplay, don't get me wrong, but you couldn't go an hour without seeing a Def Leppard or Bon Jovi song playing.

Since everyone else has already mentioned how huge this band was, I will add a couple of other bits of info. First, when we say huge, we mean these guys were considered the second coming of Beatlemania. Not necessarily in sound or style, but in the female mania that they induced. Second, it was so interesting to me that you commented how this sounds like they had a lot of experience. Rio, the album this song came off of was their second album. The youngest member was 19 and the oldest 22 or 23. Rio, not only became a massively popular album with several hits, but to this day, 40 some odd years later, it is still known as one of the greatest classic albums of all time. Also, they are still touring, they draw in a regular crowd of die hard "Duranies" as we are known, and they just released an album in October that Rolling Stone has called one of the top 20 albums of the year. These guys are legends. Please check out Rio or Save a Prayer next.

These guys revolutionized how music videos were made. Before them, music videos were mostly just performances of the band on stage or in a warehouse or something. They were the ones to go on location and shoot in exotic locations and whatnot. Really added a flair to the quality of music videos... and lots of bands then followed suit. ;-)

I've noticed that a lot of the lyric videos get the words wrong, and it confuses you guys as to the meaning of the songs. Hopefully people in the comments straighten you out, but you got this one on your own 👍

Yeah there were several glaring errors, unless I've been totally wrong for over 30 years (a possibility). For example, I always thought it was "I'm on a hunt, I'm after you", not "huntdown"...I'm afraid to look it up!

In this episode of Brad & Lex, Lex's "bopple bop" is activated immediately while Brad is not behind with a very engaged uptempo signature "side to side sway". The couch couple's commentary is of nostalgia though they didnt exist but if Duran Duran's classic 80,s hit was a time machine, they seemed to enjoy the trip.

Big Hair Rock was huge in the 80's BUT pop music ruled the charts. Great party, fun time music.

Duran Duran is one of those bands who had the good luck of being able to piggyback off the exploding popularity of MTV! Their videos were in HEAVY rotation on MTV during it's early years!!

Duran Duran were HUGE in the 1980s, and even had a nice rebirth in the 1990s. From 1983-1993, they had 15 Top 40 hits in the U.S., including 11 Top 10 Hits, nine Top 5 hits, and two #1 hits. These are their Top 10 hits in chronological order: "Hungry Like The Wolf" (#3 in 1983) "Is There Something I Should Know" (#4 in 1983) "Union Of The Snake" (#3 in 1983) "New Moon On Monday" (#10 in 1984) "The Reflex" (#1 in 1984) "The Wild Boys" (#2 in 1984) "A View To A Kill" (#1 in 1985) "Notorious" (#2 in 1987) "I Don't Want Your Love" (#4 in 1988) "Ordinary World" (#3 in 1993) "Come Undone" (#7 in 1993) TRIVIA: "A View To A Kill" is the only James Bond theme to become a #1 hit in the U.S. Of those songs, the ones I recommend are "The Reflex," "A View To A Kill," "Notorious," "Ordinary World," and "Come Undone." I also recommend two not-Top 10 hits of theirs: "Rio" (#14 in 1983), and "Save A Prayer" (#16 in 1985).

I was 5 when MTV debuted. My only sibling, my sister, is 10 years older and was *obsessed* with Duran Duran. This was back when you had one family television, so for the next 7 years my sister would stay in her room and pay me $.25 if I came and got her when a Duran Duran video came on TV. This was big money and a pretty sweet deal for a kid who was going to be playing by themselves in the family room anyway. I made enough money to buy my own music, and now I'm a middle-aged woman with a freakish knowledge of '80s MTV trivia- all thanks to an obsessed teenager and Duran Duran. 😊

Been on the earth for awhile, and I can say this is one of the most sexual songs I've ever heard. Lust for the ears. Loved it when it came out; love it still.

Lex is an old soul! Duran Duran was so big, they were tasked to make one of the theme songs (A View To A Kill) for the James Bond movie of the same name. Duran Duran was one of the biggest bands of the 1980s.

The video puts it more into context, even though it was VERY 80's!! Their song Rio or Save A Prayer would be great ones to do next. And the videos for them really go with the vibe of the songs.

I was a teen in the 80s and that decade was delirious. You can see it easily in the popular music and movies at the time.
