There are many Greek references in the video, a few examples are: The winged statue in the temple represents Nike, Goddess of Victory. Rosé (silver hair), in the beginning, is portraying Persephone, Goddess of Vegetation (plants, flowers) and the daughter of Zeus. One day while she was out gathering flowers, Hades, God of the Underworld, abducted her and dragged her down to the Underworld where she was forced to become his wife. The video shows her in her beautiful image, surrounded by flowers, as well as how she became, dirty and grey, staring up at the world through a hole in the Underworld. She was eventually allowed to return to the surface for part of the year, which is why we have Spring and Summer. Jennie (maroon dress) under the umbrellas is surrounded by dancers, their hands are "spiders", crawling over her face. Then their solo projects, Lisa's "Money", Jennie's "Solo", Rose's "On the Ground", and Jisoo's "Flower" (whose album holds the all-time record for sales by a solo female Kpop Idol, the music video was actually the most viewed in 2023 in all of Kpop, male or female, group or solo Kpop act). Jisoo pops out the least to US audiences, but in Asia and Europe she is mega popular and was ranked as the most popular female Kpop Idol in South Korea in 2023. In 2022 and years prior Jennie was typically ranked as the most popular female Kpop Idol in S.Korea. World-wide Lisa is likely the most popular Kpop artist (with over 100 million IG followers, no other male or female Kpop Idol comes close). Well, , hey, you guys seem fun. Noticed you because of your BTS 'On' reaction, and checked in here for BP. Full disclosure: I wouldn't claim to be Army, though my daughter is and I have respect. And I wouldn't claim to be Blink, though I saw them in Atlanta and, again, I have respect. Seeing how you're producers, I'm going to point you at another kpop female group: (G)i-dle. (G)i-dle is pretty much unique in that world in being an almost 100% self-produced female kpop group, whose young leader, Yeon Soyeon, has a comprehensive vision coupled with the talent and drive to realize it. (For example, their most recent 'title track' MV, Super Lady, is the 61st all-time most expensive music video per Wikipedia, and the group members fronted half the production costs. That's putting money where your mouths are, literally.) I would not at all be surprised if Soyeon were to make a feature film someday. Anyway, I'd love to hear your take, and I'm going to suggest first an older but very complex video by (G)I-dle, 'Oh My God.' That's jumping into the deep end, but that's what we're here for, right? Yes, there are several references to mythology in the music video. Each of the girls represents a goddess. Lisa (the one in the fur coat and red boots, who does the rapping in the bazaar scene) represents the goddess Circe, who is associated with falcons and potions. That's why you see her with a falcon at the end of the rap scene...and also an apple, presumably all potioned-up and ready to be delivered (an image that will be reprised with the black and pink apple in their Pink Venom music video). Circe was particularly well known for turning enemies into animals, an association represented by the donkey at the beginning of the rap scene in the bazaar. In the winter scene, she has a falconer's glove on to maintain the association with Circe. Jisoo (the lady in red in front of the burning umbrellas) represents the goddess Athena, sitting on the spidery remains of Arachne and throwing her red book at us. Rosé, as you pointed out, represents Persephone and the seasonal changes associated with her are depicted in the summer and winter scenes. Jennie (the first to sing...in the scene that appears to be inside a temple underwater) is apparently representing Hera, hanging out and low in an underwater lair of Poseidon (her brother). Hera, according to myth, is known for her jealous and vengeful nature in dealing with any who offended her...a theme that is reflected in the "How You Like That" lyrics. This association also matches the fact that Jennie, in real life, is also the celebrity ambassador for Hera -- the big Korean cosmetics company. When all of the girls take turns standing in front of the black wings, they represent winged victory (associated with Nike).
