The guy vanished in "the last great american dynasty" because his character died. The first part of the songs ends with "the doctor had told him to settle down, it must have been her fault his heart gave out". This song tells the story of Rebekah Harkness, a middle class divorced woman who maried into a rich family and was criticized for ending "the last great american dynasty". In the end of the song, Taylor reveals she bought the house that once was owned by Rebekah, and draws paralels of how the society scrutinized both of them for being strong and independent women. You really should check this song paying attention to the lyrics, it's amazing!

Absolutely! This song needs a Wikipedia read before listening to it. The reference to 'losing card games with Dali', the key line green dog, etc., makes sense then. @GotGames, do some research and the song, and the performance, will be even better! Noting of course, that she is singing about the house she owns and its previous occupants, which is why it all changes at the end of the performance because it all moves from the past into today.

@@khills She actually tripped on the roof at one of the most recent Era concerts, I believe it was in Japan. She caught herself, the audience gasped she had a freaked out look on her face, and someone shouted something like "take care Taylor". Apparently, she called Travis later and told him, which concerned him....I think her ankle twisted, and he was really upset because she hadn't had it checked by a doctor. he told her that she could have chipped or broken a bone in her ankle and they needed to make sure that it wasn't tje case. She had it checked (Not sure what they did....whether she had x-rays or what. But apparently she was OK and Travis was relieved....He left the party with his buddies that he was attending, and evidently made arrangements to pop over to the next venue where Taylor was heading. This is when they arranged for Travis to pop over to her LA mansion where a whole new wardrobe had been designed, ordered and deliver. Travis was supposed to pick them up and get them delivered to her for the next Era tour. Ankles are such a small part of our body but a big part of how we move! His PA noticed because I WAS SITTING FUNNY, made me take my shoes off and gave me a thorough exam before sending me off for a brace and then, a week later, 6 weeks of aqua therapy, with as much rest as possible. 🤷🏼♀️ Ankles. She’s a theater kid/performer, lyricist/poet, musician, singer all wrapped up into an extraordinarily talented artist. When performing on stage, part of the craft of theatre is being able to look out to the audience in a way that makes them feel like you ARE actually locking eyes, engaging, captivating each person to help them feel like they are locked in & having a unique/individualized experience. It’s a carefully crafted skill that she has splendidly mastered. She truly is exceptionally gifted as a performance artist. You can also tell how much she feeds off the energy & character of a live audience. Like the first song, Cardigan, when she’s on the roof & you were confused when the crowd went wild. It was the change in key of how she sang that line. She changed the delivery & the emphasis was not lost on her fans. It was electrifying. They responded. She noticed. She gave them more in songs that followed on that set. Other things that are subtle and likely lost upon people who aren’t very familiar w/her on stage personality are her little smirks. Those mean something too. 😉 She is delightful in how plays with and plays off the energy & feedback of her audience is exactly why she can sell out enormous stadiums around the world. SHE is a phenom in all aspects of what she delivers in all aspects of musical composition, lyricism, stage presence, incredible sets, choreography, her entire cast: band, backup singers, dancers, crew…the entire performance. It’s just…wow.

In addition she’s also very well-read and has said in interviews early in her career that a lot of her songs were based on her imagination from reading and watching stories of other people. The fact that Folklore is one of the most "laidback" albums of the bunch and it has 7 songs on the tracklist says so much❤ Edit: My Tears Ricochet is about her once-label owner, Scott Borchetta. @khills8 ай бұрын
Ok, last two thoughts, I promise! 😂 About her happiness and her eye contact. To the latter, that just reinforces the theatrical nature of this and the training she’s received somewhere along the way. In theatre, you’re taught to actually lock eyes with and connect to the front of the house, even as you PERFORM to the back of the house. It’s a way to keep yourself grounded and connected to the audience in front of you, because you can so easily risk ignoring them in your effort to perform to the back. Basically, the DRAMA goes to the back of the house so they can experience what’s going on, but you emotionally connect to the front of the house to keep the emotions authentic. It’s why, if you can, you should always sit as close to the front of the house as you can afford. For my college graduation, I was given front row seats to see Patrick Stewart perform MacBeth, and he picked me as one of his audience connections, and the magic you describe with Taylor is what I experienced there. I mean, also, admittedly, Patrick Stewart, so. ❤️😂 (Ok, short add-on here: Mandy Moore did the choreography, and yes, one of the things she is known for is her precision work, like the walking, and she does a lot of Broadway.) And I think you’re right that her happiness for folklore and evermore hit different. They’re really the first time she did anything conceptually different from her earlier albums, and they were made differently, and brought in a very different player into her stable of musical partners. The whole thing was a huge risk - so big her label didn’t know about it until hours before she released it. And it paid off in dividends. So yeah, I think she’s really proud of the album. It’s also one of the albums she hasn’t been able to perform until now - I think you’ll find a lot of Midnights has a similar feel to folklore and evermore, and for that reason. Not only is it fresh and new to perform, but it’s music she’s made now, not when she was a teenager, and while she clearly loves those old songs, it seems like she takes a lot of pride in how her craft has evolved, and being able to show it and the staging to people.

My Tears Ricochet is so raw and painful. I mean she had a relationship with Scott Borchetta - who is seems most likely to be about - since she was 14. He was the owner of her original record label and he betrayed her in a big way. The lyrics and performance show just how painful it was.

The lyrics in Illicit Affairs just kill me. Especially the “But it dies, and it dies, and it dies A million little times.” You’re right. It’s like she’s lived a whole life of just epic love stories. And hurt. So many of them just get you right in the gut. “I know my love should be celebrated, But you tolerate it.” Is another one. 😩

I think the reason why she has different energy for this era (like you mentioned) is that she’s never performed any of these songs on a tour before. So this is kind of like she so proud to finally show it off.

❤❤❤ my tears ricochet truly is one of her best and moving songs. i can’t imagine how taylor felt when her supposed friend sold the rights to all her albums at the time. now she’s reclaiming all her music with “taylor’s versions” and it’s beautiful but she’ll always be missing a piece of herself and never get those years back. PLEASE watch the music video to “Mean” and “I Can See You (Taylor’s Version)” one after the other - it really drives home that paralleling happiness and sadness of reclaiming her first 6 stolen albums.

What you referred to as the last verse of "August" was actually the chorus to "Illicit Affairs". She does a special mashup of those songs during this tour. "Illicit Affairs" is a pretty incredible song. Folklore is definitely a listen to the whole album thing.

So, a question for the other Swifties that have been so very lucky and privileged enough to have seen the Eras Tour in person. Now that she finally came to Australia and I saw Eras in Melbourne: Does it also strike you that as fantastic as the movie is, that the show was soooo much more intense being there in person? There were no words for me, and even though I knew everything about Taylor and all her songs, I was just overcome by it all. There is so much more than the movie - extra pieces, so much more complexity, the sheer intensity of how Taylor looks at the audience, the noise and the sheer majesty of it all. I was overwhelmed. I was in shock.

When the guy and girl go up into the cabin he doesn’t come back because of the line in the song “his heart gave out”. It’s a story about two real people and the husband died.

Have you seen MISS AMERICANA yet??? If you want to know more about Taylor.. this is a must! Also the FOLKLORE DOCUMENTARY gives you a great insight on how this album was made and what each song is about.

So my theory, that has not been confirmed, is that “My Tears Ricochet” is about her stolen lullabies and each line of the first chorus was taken from a song from each stolen album!! “i didn’t have it in myself to go with grace”- Red (State of Grace) “you’re the hero flying around saving face”- Speak Now (Superman) “and if I'm dead to you, why are you at the wake?”- rep (LWYMMD/old Taylor is dead) “cursing my name”- Fearless (The Way I Loved You) “wishing I stayed”- 1989 (All You Had to Do Was Stay) “look at how my tears ricochet”- Debut (Teardrops on my Guitar)

explanation of the love triangle!! James is the main boy here, he falls in love with Betty but then messes things up when he cheats on her with Augustine, the songs August, Betty and Cardigan and all from each of their perspectives, Betty being from James’ perspective about Betty, August being from Augustine’s perspective about James and Cardigan being about James from Betty’s perspective. It’s a really beautiful and intricate love triangle but it really sets the whole album out

Taylor has all those stories because she’s brave enough to keep putting herself out there even though she would get hurt or disappointed. She’s clearly curious and adventurous and brave to keep trying with people and love.

I know you don't realize it but you yourself are like Taylor. Your genuineness shines in every video and that's a rare trait! There are a small group of people that I just want to bubble wrap, protect at all costs and make all their dreams come true because they're such fantastic humans. Dave Grohl is one of those people and you've officially joined the list as well! I so love seeing you fall in love with Taylor like the rest of us have. Its a joy to see. 🫶

You should probably do both 1989 and the Acoustic Set after it next week because they're like 7 songs total together, the latter specifically is only 2 songs, and the last part of the setlist after that is 7 songs on its own

Favorite Era: This Era of Existence that I get to be alive, seen her live, and get to be alive the same time mother Taylor exists and her outstanding magnificent evolution continues.
@teuntje_esle8 ай бұрын
The part where you said that she changed the atmosphere in an instant (where the stage went from relatively colourful/orangy to dark and moody) was actually not the last verse of that song, but a small part of a different song she added on. Most of that performance was the song August and then the last part (which always has me glued to her voice and the screen, it just gets me so much) is actually from a song called Illicit Affairs. And then the last song was My Tears Ricochet. I don't know if you would ever do album reactions, but if you react to it or not, you should absolutely listen to this whole album, you would love it. (I mean probably most of her albums, but this one is something special (together with Evermore imo).)
