Another great Dutch Band. So many good songs from them. This is with the amazing Charlotte Wessels. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 They have a new singer now, Diana Leah who is also amazing. Great choice 🤘🏻🤘🏻 One song that always touches me is their song "We Are The Others" about the murder of Sophie Lancaster in 2007 just for looking different.The actual song isn't a sad song. It's more about empowerment. And standing up. ♥️♥️

I have liked Delain for a long time. The keyboard player is their main songwriter. And the band also has contact with Nightwish in two ways. First, Marko Hietala, who has been a "guest member" of Delain since the beginning, both on albums and at concerts. He has probably sung in 10-20 songs on their albums, and in 2017 he toured the band's European tour as a male singer. So, very strong contact. Second. Delain has been Nightwish's support band on tours a few times, so they know each other very well. It can also be seen on social media, how they support each other's events, song releases, etc.

As another symphonic metal band, Delain is another showcase for how the genre tends to be cinematic or theatrical, it's all about the drama and the storytelling and it tends to produce songs that play around with structure, tempo, vocal textures. The vocalist, Charlotte Wessels, left when the band reformed a couple years ago and now works independently as a singer/songwriter and continues to produce works which are clever and fascinating and cover a wide range of genres. There's a couple of tracks she made with Arch Enemy harsh vocalist Alissa White-Gluz which you might find surprising!

Delain is really awesome. Charlotte Wessels (singer in this video) is not with them anymore but I suggest to see more of her era. We are the Others (a tragic real life story) or The Gathering (with Marko Hietala who´s a good friend of them) could be great choices to react. Have a nice day, ladies.

However, unlike Floor Jansen, Charlotte Wessels had pretty uneven performance in live shows - one day she was perfect, another day not so good. All the studio albums are obviously perfect.

Other songs to watch: 'Burning Bridges', 'Suckerpunch', 'We Are The Others', 'April Rain'. Delain is different from most of the other symphonic metal in that they're not a band that is about writing epic, concept-based music. They really are about the super-melodic 4-5 minute song that, in a perfect world, would be played on the radio all the time..

At the beginning, I had a small issue with the new singer Diana (especially as one of Charlotte's patrons and the way the band had completely disbanded) - but I have to admit that the new album is fantastic, the concerts are absolutely amazing, and now I am also a fan of Diana - listen to "The Quest And The Curse" or "Queen of Shadow" from the album "Dark Waters" - or, better yet, the entire album.

Delain was formed in the Netherlands by Martijn Westerholt (keyboards) in 2002 after health issues forced him to leave Dutch symphonic rockers Within Temptation (Guitarist Robert Westerholt of Within Temptation is Martijn's brother) Charlotte Wessels (lead vocals) joined Delain in 2005 (which was still a project) and they were signed... Marco Hietala (Nightwish bassist) contributed to their debut album 'Lucidity' in 2006 and sales were good... thus, Delain became a live band w/ Sander Zoer (drums) and Ronald Landa (guitar/ male vocals) and Rob van der Loo (bass)... However, Delain would frequently change members... Delain carried on recording and touring w/ the albums 'April rain' (2009)... 'We are the Others' (2012)... 'The Human Contradiction' (2014)... Delain would tour North America in 2014 and 2015 as a support act. The EP 'Lunar prelude' in 2016 was followed by the album 'Moonbathers' that same year... Another EP "Hunter's Moon" in 2019 was promoted w/ this single ('Masters of destiny') followed by the 2020 album "Apocalypse & Chill". In 2021, Martijn Westerholt announced that Delain had parted ways w/ singer Charlotte Wessels and the rest of the band at the time... but a new line-up was being put together... In 2022, Delain announced the addition of Diana Leah (lead vocals) and the return of guitarist Ronald Landa and drummer Sander Zoer... w/ Ludovico Cioffi (bass)... I had never heard anything from Delain until 2020 when I watched this clip and I was completely in love with the band and Charlotte. Then I decided to listen to the whole album and I was simply hooked on it for a whole year! It's an incredible album, simple and epic at the same time, modern and 80s at the same time. This mix of symphonic metal with 80s pop that Delain does is fantastic. Charlotte and other members unfortunately left the band just as it seemed to be reaching its peak.

This song is from later in Dleain's career and really shows off what Charlotte Wessels would grow into as a vocalist. She has since gone solo and is still this awesome! Too bad the band has broken up. Delain got a really big break when their song from 2012 called 'We Are The Others' basically went viral (it can be found on Delain Official YT channel). This happened because a girl was murdered by bullies at her school, just because she dressed differently than the rest of the kids. That news story went world-wide. Delain wrote about it because they have members who were bullied for being Theater Kids and Band kids and Choir kids. They got other people from other bands to stand alongside them for an Anti-Bullying campaign and did marches, all that stuff. They went viral for GREAT reason, not just because they wanted to be famous or any of that, but because the song actually has real meaning. They are all amazing, big-hearted people and so is everybody who stood with them (including members of one of my FAVORITE bands of the same genre, Within Temptation). Even if the MV is old, it is still a good watch and will never be out-of-touch as far as delivering a great message.

Amy Lee is a classically trained pianist, which also influences her singing. She sings more like a European than an American. Two singles from the debut album Fallen were part of the soundtrack for the 2003 film Daredevil and suddenly made the band famous worldwide. However, co-founder and co-songwriter Ben Moody left and Amy was never able to repeat Fallen's success again.

Great reaction. Big fan of Delain and I recently saw them live with Visions of Atlantis, another great symphonic metal band with a great female lead, Clémentine Delauney, who saw in your Exit Eden reaction. Lead singer here is Charlotte Wessels who left when the band disbanded in 2021 after disagreements amongst it's members on how to proceed coming out of the pandemic. Band founder Martijn Westerholt decided to keep the band going recruiting some former members and new musicians including new singer Diane Leah. Great Delain songs to checkout include Stardust (first Delain song I ever heard, strong Within Temptation vibes), The Gathering (love the live performance with Marko from Nightwish), We are the Others, and The Quest and the Curse from their latest album with the new line up. Charlotte has also done a number of songs with other artists and since the break up with Dealin, also done a bunch of solo work. She has collaborated with Dark Side of the Moon on their cover of Enya's Let it Be from Lord of the Rings, collaborated with Zora Cock of Blackbriar on a cover of Ghost's Mary on a Cross, had Alissa White Gluz of Arch Enemy join on her single Fool's Parade, and one of my favorites, joine Myrkur and Simone Simons of Epica and Epica's Sirens - of Blood and Water. One of my favorite performances of Charlotte is of her joining Kamelot and their lead singer, Tommy Karevik, on the live performance of the song Under Grey Skies, kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2XFYoahhsuai6Msi=sTd-pFa5vZTDKv9r. A beautiful song about not giving up on people or love. Tommy has a beautiful voice and their two voices are so gorgeous together.

Mastermind and keyboardist Martijn Westerholt was part of the original line-up of Within Temptation. In 2001 he became seriously ill and had to leave the band. During his recovery phase, he founded Delain as a studio project in 2002. In 2005 he was healthy enough to turn it into a live project and released his first album. Apart from him, Charlotte Wessels was the only permanent member. Everyone else is a season musician. In 2021, Charlotte unexpectedly announced her departure and released two solo albums. Both don't make it into the Dutch charts. Frustrated, Martijn dissolves Delain and explains that he would now continue with Delain as a studio project. The statement made no sense to me because Delain was never anything else. In the same year he declared that it was now a band again and hired the Romanian-born Diana Leah as the new singer. Diana was previously known as a guest singer in the techno scene. During the pandemic, she released two covers of Within Temptation on her KZbin channel. She says about herself that she has always been a metal fan, but never had the opportunity to sing in a metal band. For me she is weaker than Charlotte, but you can compensate for that with background singers: DELAIN - The Quest And The Curse (Official Video) | Napalm Records All of Delain's albums made it into the Dutch charts and they were able to establish themselves throughout Europe with many good songs.
