Noddy Holder is such a lovely bloke ,absolutely no ‘rockstar’ airs and graces.During the late 70’s the band I was in supported Slade at a British university summer ball.our dressing rooms were adjacent and after we had performed Noddy came into ours and introduced himself ( as if we didn’t know who he was !) complimented us on our performance and invited us all to their dressing room for a drink .We imagined bottles of spirits on every surface , scantily clad women ..no ,in his thick Brummie accent “How do you like yer tea lads ? “ …they were all having a brew ! So friendly and down to earth ,treated us like equals and gave us a memory to cherish

Slade were one of the best bands I ever saw live. Noddy as a frontman was captivating and brilliant. He had a great personality and could work a crowd even at festivals where not everyone was there to see them. In fact on the day they played Monsters Of Rock festival they stole the day for most folk (AC/DC headlined and other bands included Whitesnake and Blue Oyster Cult). The interaction of Noddy and the guys with 60,000 wet and muddy people was outstanding. Guitarist Dave Hill was known for wearing some outrageously over the top outfits (glam gear). Apparently he often didn't tell the band what he was planning to wear and they would go "you must be joking"😀. Dave would tell the rest of the band about the songs "you write them, and I'll sell them"😂 The drummer Don Powell was in a car crash at one point (he ended up in a coma for a while) but the band waited on his recovery to get out and about again. Don had memory issues and often had to be given a reminder of the beat before they hit a song to allow him to get to the rest of it! One other little thing about them is their song title's spellings were often hilarious. The band come from an area in England known as the "black country" which has quite a thick accent so they wrote the titles phonetically as it was written as it sounded as they said them! If I may recommend a song to you called "My Oh My" as it is one of the most brilliant and emotive ballads I have ever heard. I will share the link, even just for your own enjoyment (you don't need to react if you haven't time). Have a great day. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d53acmh9gaeggK8

You should check out the live version, filmed in front of an audience of mainly teeny-bopper girls for a TV show. This is actually a cover of a song made famous by Little Richard. They finished almost every show with this song. They were hugely successful everywhere in the World except America. If you remember Quiet Riot doing Cum On Feel The Noize and Mama Weer All Crazee Now, they were Slade songs written by bassist Jim Lea and singer/guitarist Neville "Noddy" Holder. Slade were one of the best live bands around. Every show was a party.

In the late sixties noddy drove Robert plant to gigs before he joined led zeppelin in his dad's window cleaning van according to his autobiography his dad was a good singer and noddy(his real names neville) sang for the first time on stage when he was five years old in working men's clubs in walsall.
@chrismcdonagh68814 күн бұрын
This was my band growing up and this was the first record I ever bought. Noddy Holder had one of the best rock voices ever and was asked to audition for AC/DC when Bon Scott died but he turned it down out of loyalty to his own band. Gene Simmons said that Slade were one of the biggest influences for Kiss. This is actually a cover of an older song but Slade does the best version. Try Gudbuy T' Jane, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, The Bangin Man, Merry Xmas Everybody, How Does It Feel, Them Kinda Monkees Can't Swing, Cum On Feel The Noize, Thanks For The Memories, How Can It Be, Standin On The Corner, Run Run Away, We'll Bring The House Down and so many others.

Back in the day I lived in a "hippy house" with 5 other people. We had an 8 track tape player and only 2 tapes. Ones was Carol Kings "Tapestry" (a great album itself) and "Slade Live". 8 track tape players played tapes on a loop over and over and over again until somebody shuts it off. To this day I still never tire of hearing either of these artists. Thanks for the memory!
